Blue-green algae has been confirmed in an area of Nepewassi Lake.
The Ministry of the Environment was testing samples near the Briscoe Estates.
As a precaution, the Health Unit’s Al McDougall says using or drinking the water should be avoided.
Toxins can irritate the skin and if ingested can cause diarrhea and vomiting…in extreme cases liver and nervous system damage.
The highest concentrations are usually found in blooms and scum on the shoreline.
