A major glitch has surfaced in plans to vaccinate Canadians against the H-1-N-1 virus.

Officials say the flow of vaccine doses to the provinces and territories next week will be a fraction of what it was in the each of the last three weeks.

Because of that…the local Medical officer of Health, Dr. Penny Sutcliffe is urging only those in the high risk area to attend the first round of vaccination clinic currently underway.

That includes those under 65 with chronic health problems, pregnant women, children 6 months to 5 years of age, those who live in remote or isolated areas and health care workers or providers.

A clinci is being held today at the New Sudbury Shopping Centre from 10am to 4pm.

It’s that time of year again.

Tonight we turn back our clocks and get an extra hour of sleep as daylight time ends at 2 a-m and eastern standard time kicks in.

Researchers have discovered that setting your clock back and losing that hour of daylight can affect mood and cause fatigue.

And they say that increases your chance of ending up in an emergency room.

Daylight saving time returns on March 14th.

Police are reporting a generally quiet “Devil’s Night”

However…a picket line incident late last night at Vale Inco’s Clarabelle Mill is under investigation.

It happened during a Halloween party and rally by about 60 costumed and masked striking Steelworkers.

Police say a generator and light standard were knocked over near the mill entrance.

The Wolves have their fist 2-game home-ice winning streak of the season.

Friday night the local juniors edged the Niagara Ice Dogs 5-4.

Captain John Kurtz and Eric O’Dell had two goals each while John McFarland had the third period game winner…he also chipped in with two assists.

The Woles are in Misissauga tomorrow afternoon.

Residents of Greater Sudbury are being asked for comments on the city’s “Biodiversity Action Plan”.

It’s the result of the Sudbury Soils study and has a number of recommendations and remedies to combat the damage mining has done over the years.

The main action suggested is stepping up the regreening efforts.

Vale Inco and Xstrata Nickel have committed a combined 2.25 million dollars over five years.

Public comments will be accepted until November 30th.

Local businesses are helping support Canadian veterans.

Legion Branch 76 presented Sudbury’s Mayor with the first poppy of the campaign this morning.

Poppy Chair Derald Balson says the red floral symbols represent remembrance and sacrifice with local proceeds helping Sudbury veterans and other charities.

Poppies will be sold at numerous businesses locally and across Canada.

All volunteers selling poppies will be wearing ID tags to prevent theft.

Thousands of local residents have already gotten their H1N1 shot as response to local clinics remains strong.

Despite what is being reported in other areas of the country about a vaccine shortage, Health Unit Spokesman Gisele Sbrega says that’s not the case locally.

She says they continue to receive their shipments as planned and are not aware of anything outside of that.

In the first three days of clinics in Greater Sudbury more than 5-thousand people had been vaccinated.

Greater Sudbury Police will be out in full force making sure it’s a safe Halloween night for all the ghosts and goblins.

Constable Denise Fraser says it’s important parents and their kids are familiar with the 3 W’s: where are you going to be trick or treating, who are children going with and when they should be expected back home.

Police will again be getting some help out on the streets from the Sudbury Amateur Radio Club, students from the Cambrian College Criminal Justice program and Citizens on Patrol.

Close to 300-thousand dollars damage after a house fire in Hanmer early this morning.

Sudbury Fire crews were called just after 4am to the residence on Addy Street…with flames visible from the attic.

A cause is still unknown, however the Electrical Safety Authority has been brought in to investigate.

There were no injuries.

The Wolves hope to re-start a winning streak tonight when they roll out the welcome mat for Niagara.

The Ice Dogs were humbled 7-0 in Barrie last night.

Sudbury sits 8th in the East with 11 points,  one behind Brampton and 4 back of Niagara.

On Sunday the local juniors head down to Mississauga.
