For the next four Saturdays Nickelbelt M-P-P France Gelinas and Sam Bruno will be taking on a mission.

They’re collecting names for a petition at the New Sudbury Shopping Centre, in hopes of bringing a PET scanner to Sudbury.

Gelinas says she doesn’t buy the excuse from the Ministry of Health that there’s enough scanners for Ontario residents

“And right now because the North-East is the only part of the province without a PET scanner…..to me this is discrimination,” says Gelinas.

Currently the closest scanner for cancer patients is in Toronto.

Both she and organizer Sam Bruno, a terminal cancer patient, have asked the province’s ombudsman to look into the issue.
