Once missing that final polish and killer instinct…
Good to see Derozan being consistent with his scoring numbers, but apart from that very little else to take from this game.
Hopefully they can finish out the season and make the right changes in the offseason.
- rapdownunderI couldn’t catch the game last night and only saw the highlights this morning.
But they showed Bargnani TWICE pump faking and then actually putting the ball on the floor, moving past his man and laying it off the glass.
Now, not withstanding he didn’t exactly crash the tin and still avoided contact and threw it up very awkwardly (but made both), at least he made the effort.
Twice.
It’s a start.
- GaryEric,
Contrary to what you and Paul’s philosophy about coaches potentially not wanting to come to this market due to the teams performance or losing culture, I would have to firmly disagree
Washington Wizards-Flip Saunders
New Jersey Nets- Avery Johnson
Charlottee Bobcats-Larry Brown
LA.Clippers-Mike Dunlevy
Cleveland Cavaliers- Byron Scott
Geogre Karl- Millwaukee Bucks
Many good coaches are drawn to bad teams becauses that is his opportunity to put his stamp on the team.
Lou Pinella went to Tampa Bay Devil rays in their down years
- ThomasRon wilson came to Toronto. There are plenty of examples across the four major sports of good coaches and players goin to bad markets. The notion that a good coach will be attract because of the losing to totally false coaching is based on challenges.
I think the last few games against PHX, LAC and MIL have at least shown that Raps are beginning to give themselves a chance to win in the fourth quarter, which is something you have to learn how to do before you can learn how to finish game sand get wins.
I love the raw heart of this team and they finally have a legit combo in DD and JJ for the future. So long as DD can be consistant (there is nothing saying he won’t) and JJ can stay within himself and learn to become a force with his shot, the raps will be fine.
LET’S GO RAPTORS!!!
- T.J.Thomas,
Changing coaches doesn’t always improve things .
For example , when Sam Mitchell was fired with 8-9 record after having made the playoffs the 2 previous yrs, and been nasmed NBA COY , his replacement went 25-40 the rest of the season and Raps haven’t made the playoffs since.
- ChasHehehe, Chas.
Funny :)
Don’t fire Triano…you never know what may happen. The team might fall lower in the standings!!
Hahahahaha :)
- brento.brento,
Just in case there is any doubt,
I feel the firing of Mitchell was one of GMs’ biggest blunders, of which there are many .
Detroit made the plyoffs that year with a 39-43 record.
It’s not unfair to suggest that easily could have been the Raptors making the playoffs had Colangelo not blamed Sam and fired him.
- ChasI agree with you 10,000%, Chas. I knew something was seriously wrong when Sam got thrown out of town by BC. It was obvious to see Colangelo had zero interest in having a proper NBA team — which would play defense first and scoring second. He had no interest in accountability and physical commitment — otherwise, he would have made a statement by supporting Sam and his work-ethic attitude and made the players become responsible for their efforts (or, lack thereof).
The second Sam left town, this team took a major turn downwards. It’s funny, ’cause the one other time this team took a clear, obvious turn for the worse was when another old school defender guy — Oak — played his last game for the team. For years, fans lamented over the fact no one was there to demand defense from his fellow teammates and to get under the butts of prima donna players who thought playing basketball meant running around throwing up alley-oops.
Colangelo has no clue how to build a winner. That has been so, so obvious for so, so many years. Including his years in Phoenix.
In Toronto, it’s been overwhelmingly bleak.
Looks as though Sam got the last laugh…
