Friday December 11 2009 – 10:44pm Eastern – Toronto, ON

Hawks @ Raptors

Final Score:
111 – 89, Hawks (Toronto now 10-15)

“Smith and Jones” Player of the Game:
20 points
5 assists
3 rebounds
2 steals
8/15 FG

“Alice Fazoolis” Player of the Game:
15 points
3 assists
3 rebounds
6/12 FG

Shout-out to the Raptors:

14 points
10 rebounds
3 assists
6/10 FG
2/2 FT

Stats that stood out:
- Toronto starts the game shooting 64% from the floor in the 1st QRT and looked to be playing some solid D.  But …
- Hawks out-score the Raptors 32-21 in the 2nd and open up a 13-point halftime lead
- Atlanta’s bench was a big part of that 2nd QRT (that 1st half overall) going 13/15 FG for 31 points
- Hawks bench finishes with 55 points
- In two games against Atlanta, Andrea Bargnani has 3 rebounds
- 2nd chance points:  20-8 Atlanta
- Toronto coughs up 18 points on 17 turnovers
- Jose Calderon sat out the 2nd half after aggravating his hip injury in the 1st half

Thumbs Up:
- Can we just say:  “The final buzzer” …

Thumbs Down:
- Effort … intensity … fire … Whatever verb, adjective, noun you wanna use … Toronto simply didn’t have “it” tonight against a team that spanked them a week ago and did it again for a second time in less than 2 weeks

Smith Says:
“The positive vibes of the ‘closed-door meeting’ and the 3-game win streak are gone.  Toronto has struggled, again, in back to back losses to Milwaukee and now Atlanta.”

Jones Says:
“Atlanta is a strong and athletic team that has grown together.  Give them full credit for their win.”

Keep the 3-ball Steak Alive (885 games and counting):
- The Raptors were 2 of 10 from 3PT range

Next game:
- Rockets @ Raptors – Sunday December 13 2009 – 12:30pm Eastern
- Tune in at 12:00pm for the pre-game show and just after 12:30pm for the “Pizza Pizza” starting line ups

I didn’t watch the game and I am glad that I didn’t! This team is making me sick! I can’t believe this happen again!

Lose tomorrow’s game against Houston and the Raptors will be staring squarely at the real possibility of a 5-game losing streak with the ensuing contests @ Miami and @ Orlando.

Unfortunately, everything which I speculated might go awry for the team this season … way back in the summer … is turning out to be fairly accurate.

Hopefully, Bryan Colangelo can keep his wits about him and refrain from making things even worse going forward, by pulling the trigger on an ill-advised deal or two [e.g. like the O'Neal & Moon for Marion & Banks transaction] that actually puts the Raptors further in arrears than where they stand today.

If Bryan Colangelo would actually be interested in getting some aound basketball advice, what he needs to do is seek out counsel from someone who is currently not within the Raptors organization, not a yes-man, and willing to tell him straight-up where he’s made his errors trying to assemble a championship calibre team in Toronto, to this point.

If, however, he only seeks input from those within the team’s current ranks, it will simply be a case of more of the same same for the foreseeable future.

It’s a real shame to witness first-hand the Raptors organization simply waste yet another opportunity to step up and grab the golden ring [i.e. during the early phase of Chris Bosh's still young NBA career].
