Wednesday November 4 2009 – 9:57pm Eastern – Toronto, ON

Pistons @ Raptors

Final Score:
110-99, Raptors

“Smith and Jones” Player of the Game:
- ANDREA BARGNANI
22 points
12 rebounds
2 blocks
8/16 FG

“Alice Fazoolis” Player of the Game:
- ANTOINE WRIGHT
12 points
5 rebounds
* Solid defence throughout the game – but especially in the 2nd QRT

Shout-out to the Pistons:
- BEN GORDON
30 points
4 assists
10/19 FG

Stats that stood out:
- Jose Calderon with only 1 assist in 32 minutes of action
- Toronto turned the ball over only 6 times
- Lead changes:  Toronto down 9 … Then up 17 … The down 1 … Then they win by 11.  Strange.
- Tight on the Glass:  45-45 REB
- Toronto with 44 points in the 2ND QRT alone!
- 59 of Detroit’s 99 points came from Gordon, Rodney Stuckey, and Will Bynum
- Stuckey had a career-high 10 rebounds
- Bargnani’s career-high in REB too (12)

Thumbs Up:
- For the 2ND straight game (this time a win, thankfully), Toronto held an opponent under 45% from the field.  Since the 2006-07 season, Toronto is 80-21 when holding a team below 45%

Thumbs Down:
- Letting the 17-point lead slip.  Gotta protect leads — especially BIG leads!

Smith says:
- “The second unit was the difference tonight.  Jarrett Jack and Antoine Wright especially.  They ignited Toronto’s comeback in the 2nd.  They showed signs of what this club was missing last year.”

Jones Says:
“It was a great 2ND QRT … outscoring Detroit by 16.  The Raptors showed their potency on offence and flashes of good defence and what it can do.”

Keep the 3-ball Steak Alive (864 games and counting):
- The Raptors were 8 of 24 from 3PT range

Next game:
- Raptors @ Hornets – Friday November 6 2009 – 8:00pm Eastern
- Tune in at 7:30pm for the pre-game show and just after 8:00pm for the “Pizza Pizza” starting line ups

On a night where CB4, Bargnani and Turk all contributed, it was great to see the 2nd unit really carry this win and aside from an inexplicable collapse where they let that lead evaporate, it was an exciting win.

Jose absolutely HAS to learn to stop doing what he did last year; it’s a fast break mindset now, not methodically plod up in the half court.

You can see he remembers that about half the time; when he’s playing on instinct/autopilot, he reverts to the old way.

As an aside, you goptta just LOVE Reggie Evans, a guy who hasn’t even played a game for the Raptors. His court-side enthusiasm just screams “good teammate” – on his feet half the game.

    He’s Jake V with talent :-)

Jose involving the Turk, with his 6 assists, and Bosh only making 5 FG’s, was a big reason for his assist total.

Jack, with 4 of his assists & 9 pts, Wright, & Andrea, were like the perfect storm at the end of the 1st, and 2nd for the 44pts.

Unfortunately that was it for Jack, who had 2 ast, zero pts in the 2nd half, and was in control when Rap’s blew the lead.

When Jose, Bosh, & Turk came back in to join Jack and Andrea, in the Last 5 mins they made a 17-6 run to win going away.

Inconsistency in PG play applies to both Jack & Calderon, who are not shooting or playing to their potential as yet, but the Turk picking up his playmaking & scoring has made up for the shortfalls.

Eric–what is going on with Jose? This is getting ridiculous now…this guy needs to step up if the raptors want to get anywhere in the 5th-6th spot in the EC!
