The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday that guard Jose Calderon underwent surgery this morning to repair ligament damage and capsular laxity to the ring finger of his left hand. Recovery time is expected to be six to eight weeks.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Brent Graham at Toronto Western Hospital .
This past season, Calderon averaged career highs of 12.8 points, 8.9 assists (fourth in the NBA) and 34.3 minutes in 68 games (all starts). He led the NBA in assists-per-turnover ratio (4.21) for a second consecutive season. He also established an NBA single-season free-throw percentage record of .981 (151-for-154).

Eric:
Do you think Jose’s defense will be much improved next season — after his little, bitty baby finger is all better?
I wonder if he gets a Dora band-aid…the kind Wince Carter got when he fell on the floor at the ACC, hurt himself and had his mama crying in the first row.
- brentoPretty nice stats for a guard that some want to run out of town. I’m glad it wasn’t the hammy that needed surgery after all he went through to get healthy.
For a tremendous shooter, Calderon just has to learn how to be a bit more sefish at the right times and pick up his D and he can be an elite top 10 PG imo.
He showed he can compete with the best (and fact outplayed them by a wide margin) towards the end of the season. I’d like to see him healthy for a whole season with a good cutter playing the 2/3.

- GaryHey Gary…I wasn’t cutting up Jose…I’ve always been a fan.
I just find it funny that the team finds it important to release information like a player having his finger worked on. Who cares?
I know a lot has been said, negatively, about Jose. I’ve never understood why fans have concentrated on him when it comes to discussing the team’s biggest flaws. Other than being overpaid (which wasn’t his fault), I’ve always thought he was a solid point guard. Certainly good enough to excel on a good team — the only problem is he’s the starting point guard on a very bad team.
Fans should focus their attention on Chris Bosh and what he lacks as an A-type player with a salary that matches. As long as he is our “top gun”, this team will never do anything in the playoffs.
I’d like to see Jose play with Bargs and a star shooting guard/small forward. I think he would be great in that scenario.
But, I still couldn’t resist the itty-bitty finger comment ;)
- brentoJose is the future.
- Tosh JeffreyAny news regarding surgery for a member of the starting five (or anyone on the team for that matter) is news. No matter how minor the surgery may be, it’s still news. So of course the PR department is going to send out a release.
Brento – I love the banter – but do you try to find a negative angle on every story, or does it just come naturally?
- E. SmithEric — I work with kids for a living, so I am constantly wearing my “happy” hat.
When I get home, and start thinkin’ Raps stuff…all my negative emotions come flowing out.
This board is strictly, strictly therapy for me. I am sincerely apologetic for any stress is causes others.
But seriously, I love the banter. I love to take it…love to give it. And I can’t wait until this team becomes a truly successful one. I promise you I will be leading the charges of praise — I’m not all about finding the bad.
I just, honestly, don’t see a lot of good with this squad (on the court, of course — I know that the Raptors Foundation is one of the best in the league and I am a huge supporter of it’s mission).
- brentobrento ur awesome lol…
I laughed out loud when i read the dora the explorer comment hahaha.
