Wednesday April 15 2009 – 9:35pm Central (Chicago, IL)

Raptors @ Bulls

Final Score:
109-98, Raptors

“Alice Fazoolis” Player of the Game:
SHAWN MARION
34 points
11 rebounds
3 assists
15/18 FG

“Smith and Jones” Player of the Game:
- CHRIS BOSH

4/6 FT

Shout-out to the Bulls:
- DERRICK ROSE
20 points
6 rebounds
11 assists
2 blocks
7/14 FG
6/8 FT

Stats and Notes that stood out:
- Toronto led by as many as 20 points in the first half and by as many as 18 in the 2nd half
- Chicago came into the game as the 6th leading offensive rebounding team in the league – and the 9th best rebounding team overall … but Toronto took it to the Bulls on the glass:
- 57-40 overall
- 16-11 offensive boards
- Jose Calderon falls short of the 90-50-40 season (90%+ FT, 50%+ FG, 40%+ 3PT)
- 49.7% FG for 2008-09
- Chris Bosh finishes 1 rebound shy of his 3RD career 20/20 game (21 points, 19 rebounds)
- With those 19 rebounds, Bosh secures a 20/10 season (only 3 did so in the NBA this season (Dwight Howard and Chris Paul were the others))
- Marion’s 34 points were a season-high

Thumbs Up:
- Finishing the year the way they started … 3-0.  It’s just the middle 76 that got away :)

Thumbs Down:
- This was the last game.  Missing the playoffs.  Ouch.

Smith says:
- “Thanks for a great year everyone.  Looking forward to bigger and better things next season.”

Jones says:
- “Eric said it best – Thanks to all of you.”

“V-Tech” 3-In-To-Win Give-Away:
The Raptors were 4 of 10 from 3PT range

Next game:
- Some time in October 2009!

E. Smith

    Thanks, Marion.

Gotta love watching players playing for contracts.

I’ve always felt players should sign one-year, minimum salary contracts…and get paid bonuses for a myriad of statistical achievements.

Just like those tennis players and golfers, who pay their own way to travel to tournaments…and then only get paid when they perform.

A perfect example of how dated NBA (and other) contracts are:

Jason Kapono — all of that money for NOTHING!! No defense, no clutch shots, no intensity, and an attitude not unlike your typical California sufter dude!

I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but he absolutely RIPPED OFF Raptors fans and team sponsors over the past three years.

Good riddance…we can only hope Colangelo follows you out the back door of the ACC.

Thanks Eric and Paul, doing a great job calling the action. With a busy schedule and a girlfriend that doesn’t care much for sports on TV (she did go to two games with me this year) I had to rely on you guys to paint the action for me. I listened to about 80 percent of the games while driving and would usually catch the end of game on the internet at the GFs place. One thing I don’t understand is why the FAN can’t put the games on the internet but you can get the FAN broadcast on NBA.com. Great job once again.

    Kudos for finishing strong.
If BC brings Jay back it should be because he firmly believes Jay is the best available person to coach the team. I’m assuming the new head coach gets at least a two year deal if not three. Otherwise he is a lame duck coach. That being said, if the Raptors get off to a slow start under Jay and they decide to let him go they will then be paying both Sam and Jay to not coach the team. This along with the lack of results is why I feel Jay should not be back. In the end I trust any decision BC makes.

Tim…I’m glad you trust “any decision BC makes”.

    Is your last name “Colangelo”?

    Tim,
Raps go from 47-35 to 41-41, to 33-49 , and you write :” I trust any decision BC makes”

Colangelo has been an unmitigated diaster this season imo.
The Ford-O’Neal trade and firing Mitchell were 2 blunders that destroyed team chemistry and had little justification .
    .
The loyalty of the Raps fans has saved BC’s pompous butt(9th in attendance)
Triano said on FAN he felt he had done nothing to lose the job .
Going 25-40 after taking over an 8-9 team is not something that might lose you a job ?

Raptor’s Thank You Fans Ad in today’s papers is a masterpiece of PR brilliance .
Most fans would prefer to see more brilliance in the GM’s office and less PR spin to justify failure .

I think a number of players (Marion, O’Bryant) have given BC reason to more stongly consider his lineup for next year beyond flush the bottom 12.

The question is at what price?

In my dream world, Marion or similar signs at a reduced rate and CB takes less than max next year to allow for signing a quality 2/3 swingman.

We are one 20/night guy and team dedication to defence away from seriously competing :-)
    (not asking much is it?)

I think there are many more who rightly won’t be given any further consideration at all and should be sure to include ALL personal items when they clear out their lockers.

Of course thanks to Eric/Paul and support staff for all you do here and on the airwaves – can’t wait to see what happens over the summer.

The Raptors are still miles ahead from where they were when BC took over. They may have had a disasterous year but the have options. They have 3 valuable pieces that they can move to make this team better. They also have money coming off the cap that they can use to make SMART signings. Yes I have full faith that this team will be a playoff team next year and a contending team in the near future.

    Miles ahead, Tim?

That is a highly odd comment, given how miserable the team has played over the past two years.

You can candy-coat Colangelo’s performance all you want — the bottom line is playoff series wins.

    That’s it.

That is how a team, coaching staff and GM is evaluated.

And, from what I see, the Raps have very little chance of going far in this playoff, or next seasons’ playoff. As long as teams like Atlanta and Orlando (and now even Chicago!) continue to sail past Toronto, this team will be either out of the post-season or a first round casualty for years.

Okay Brento. Let us give it to Tim since he needs a wake up call. The times in Phoenix…the real Colangelo that knows how to put a real team together. And that man is Jerry before his son Bryan came along. Bryan CANNOT be trusted to the team anymore. It’s about time we bring in a real GM who is NBA hungry and not a phony slapnut who can’t build chemistry and speak the truth like BC is about. MJ has a better year with his Bobcats since they were alot closer to being in the playoffs while the Raptors collapse AGAIN!!!

So you guys want to fire Colangelo because the team stepped backwards? Do you give him any credit do you give him for building the 47 win team? I’m being real. The year was a failure. Now its Colangelo’s job to fix it.

So let’s all stop crying in our beer, enjoy the baseball season, and see how the 2009/2010 Raptors pan out. I’ll be willing to forget all the negative BC comments when they Raps make the playoffs next year and you guys are all up in BC’s jock again.
