Tuesday February 24 2009 - 10:23pm Eastern (Toronto)
Timberwolves @ Raptors

“Alice Fazoolis” Player of the Game:
- CHRIS BOSH
26 points
6 rebounds
2 blocks
10/19 FG
6/6 FT
“Smith and Jones” Player of the Game:
- ANTHONY PARKER
24 points
7 rebounds
6 assists
2 steals
8/10 FG
5/6 FT
Shout-out to the Timberwolves:
- RYAN GOMES
23 points
9 rebounds
5 assists
8/12 FG
5/5 FT
Stats that stood out:
- Back to back double-doubles for Jose Calderon (Tonight – 15 points, 13 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals)
- Andrea Bargnani ties the team high (with Bosh) with 26 points (5 rebounds and 3 assists as well)
- Raptors out-score Minnesota on the fast-break, 17-8
- Points in the Paint: 44-40 Minnesota
- Toronto gives up 37 first quarter points to Minny (37-25) but then wins every quarter after that
- The Raptors had 22 points off 13 Wolves turnovers
Thumbs Up:
- The up-tempo style continues to look good for T.O. A balanced attack for Toronto with 3 players (Bosh, Bargnani, and Parker) going for 24+
Thumbs Down:
- The defence has to pick up. Giving up 50% from the floor and 110 points won’t cut it on most nights.
Smith says:
- “It didn’t look good early – giving up 37 points in the first quarter – but the Raptors used a balanced attack to chip away at the Wolves all night. Bosh was solid – which was good to see – after struggling in his ‘comeback’ in the last two games.”
Jones says:
- “An all-offence win tonight. The Raptors simply out-scored Minnesota with the up-tempo style helping everyone’s offence.”
“V-Tech” 3-In-To-Win Give-Away:
The Raptors were 6 of 15 from 3PT range
Next game:
- Raptors @ Suns
– Friday February 27 2009

WoW, we barely beat the T-Wolves (am I allowed to call them that?)…I expect an 0 for road trip. We may fluke one off against the Suns but highly unlikely.
Joey G…MVP
- Mr. TThey will go 4 3 in a row in the road trip!
Anthony Parker 4 MVP
- Raps FanDamn.. Mr. T your the king of negativity!! And i thought i was bad.
Let me start by saying i don’t mean to be calling you out Eric but i’ve notice recently that anytime your ask a question you seem to just ride the fence. I’m i off on this one raptor fans??
Q: Will Bargnani be a star/number option on this team?
A: We will have to see… he may but he may also be a good piece.
Q: Will Bosh be here long term?
A: No. (which was a surprise that you gave a straight answer but then you back tracked on to the fence. And i do understand your reasoning but sometimes taking a stances is GOOD.)
It’s easy to ride the fence so that later on down the road you can say that u kind of got it right. As well i do understand that you have a job/relationships that u don’t want to disrupt things.
- clutch_kWhat I was really surprised at was Bargnani actually looked coordinated, dare I say athletic out there; running the floor, catch on the run, windmill dunks…he’s actually building a repertoire beyond the 3 and the “one step in jumpshot”. Keep it up Bargs.
A quick question though re Calderone after another good night and dbl/dbl.
Does he EVER turn and shoot or stop and pop after running around the entire defense and right under the basket? He’s never a threat to score from there and always justs runs through and looks for the outlet pass – a bit frustrating and the defense KNOWS he’s not going to shoot.
Going to be a shoot-out in Phoenix on Friday. Let’s hope we can hold them to 100.
- Garyhopefully we lose, the more we lose the better the draft pick
- jose haterI hope the Raps will pick Ricky Rubio with their top five pick this upcoming draft.
- Joe N.The raps are just getting by teams that have been in the NBA basement for years such as Knicks and T-Wolves…thats basically gives us an indication of where the raptors are and where the are heading (Lottery Pick). I was watching the game and noticed the raps had Jose, ukic, Bargs, Parker and Bosh. 4 Euro League players with CB4 that equals A SOFT TEAM! CB4 was getting man handled yesterday and not one Raptor could or would step up for the star player. Can someone please explain to me why Colangelo seems to have this love affair with Euro League players and doesnt it seem odd that he wants to play a run and gun offense but Euro League teams never play a run and gun style of basketball! Does BC even realize he is stocking up on players that have never played the style of basketball he wants to employ…. his little Euro league experiment hasnt worked and why did he even attempt this in Toronto he should have experimented in Phoenix!
- Neilthe raptors win 2 of 3 game on this road trip
- ginomassariAndrea
When are they going to start using him as a passer?
He is by far the best passer on the team. If he was keyed in the middle to pivot the ball like Duncan is I think he would be brilliant.
He is driving like a champ but I still think the best part of his game is passing. Standing at the foul line. Two steps from a dunk. One leap from a easy jumper. A seven footer seeing the whole court hitting guys cutting. That is Andrea’s true postion on offence.
- MilesDear Mr. ginomassari:
Your bookie is one very, very lucky man!
- brentoNo, clutch, it’s called being realistic – not sitting on the fence.
Anybody that can *RIGHT NOW* state for sure that Bargnani is going to be a STAR is full of it. At the same time, anybody declaring he’ll be a bust, is full of it too. 55 games into his 3rd year – we don’t know what he’ll be yet. It’s too early to tell. That’s not sitting on the fence, that’s being real.
And show me where I supposedly “back-tracked” on Bosh?
I simply explained my answer – which McLean didn’t really want. He said “yes” or “no”. That kind of question – as I already explained in my blog – can’t really be answered, truthfully, with a “yes” or “no” because there are so many intangibles. Again, that’s not the fence, that’s realism.
I’ve said all year that Toronto’s best chance for bringing Bosh back is winning / making the post-season / proving they’re a consistent contender (not just a 1st round contender). And the team has not done that. Thus, I think signing Bosh will be tough. But I’ve also said that I’d be shocked to see Bosh or any other player leave $20-$30 million on the table. Hence the reason I think he’ll sign the deal and then look to be moved a couple of years into it *if* the Raps haven’t truly turned things around and become a legit contender in the East. That’s why “long term” … I say … there’s a greater likelihood of him going (too many “What ifs). I hope he does stay though.
It’s looking at the whole picture. It’s analysis. It’s not “yes” or “no”. Life itself – let alone questions in life – are rarely a simple yes or no
But, thanks
- E. SmithDear Mr. Joe. N:
Unfortunately, regardless of just how terrible our Raptors truly is, there’s no way we’ll get a top 5 pick in next year’s draft.
With a ridiculously easy schedule to complete the season, we’re looking at the 8th or 9th pick, unless we really luck out when the ping pong balls fall.
The Raps have a lot of home games versus very bad teams left. And, I expect our Euro-weaklings to rise to the occasion when it just doesn’t matter at all.
Anyways, I don’t have any faith, whatsoever, in Bryan Colangelo drafting…his performance in Toronto has been numbingly bad.
- brentoEric-
Why turn a garbage team into a toxic waste dump.
I hope Bosh goes. I do not want our key player as a soft jump shooter soaking up all the money. Bosh looks great on an all-star team where there is no defense. He has given up all physicality. He is totally antimidated when he plays another all-star. Why do you want a marshmallow leading our team?
I would rather start over building a team around Andrea, Calderon, Ukic, Graham,Humphries. Spend Boshes money on the best three money can buy and get a beast as a three.
The proof is in the pudding. With Bosh as our leader and a good three we are a garbage team. You just want to make us a toxic waste dump that will take years to clean up.
- MilesI meant get a beast at 4.
