Sunday January 25 2009 - 9:15pm Eastern
Sacramento @ Toronto
Final Score:
113-97, Raptors
“Alice Fazoolis” Player of the Game:
- ANDREA BARGNANI
24 points
7 rebounds
7/14 FG
8/10 FT
“Smith and Jones” Player of the Game:
- CHRIS BOSH
31 points
8 rebounds
2 blocks
12/22 FG
Shout-out to the Kings:
- JOHN SALMONS
21 points
7 rebounds
3 assists
8/17 FG
Stats that stood out:
- Jermaine O’Neal: 11 points and 10 rebounds in 22:17 minutes off the bench
- Jose Calderon: 8 assists and 0 turnovers (16 points as well (on 6 of 9 FG))
– In his 2 games back, Jose has 18 assists, 0 turnovers, and 39 points on 15/19 FG
- Kings were just 15/43 from the field in the 2ND half (34.9%)
- Toronto shoots 52.5% for the game
- Raptors hold one of the league’s top scorers, Kevin Martin, to only 12 points on 4 of 15 from the field
- The Kings are now 0-18 against the East
Thumbs Up:
- The 3 bigs – Bosh, Bargnani, and O’Neal – combine for 66 points, 25 rebounds, and 4 blocks
Thumbs Down:
- Tough to criticize much. While the 1st half was back and forth, the Raptors slammed the door shut in the 2nd half on both ends of the floor. Perhaps the turnovers were the biggest issues: 13 … leading to 20 points for the Kings. But I’m stretching here.
Smith says:
“The work isn’t done. Toronto has to get the next two as well – against New Jersey and Milwaukee. Both of those teams are clubs the Raps have to leap-frog in the standings. Is a streak building? Two in a row against the Bulls and Kings is a good start.”
Jones says:
“Solid defence in the 2ND half by Toronto – holding the Kings to under 35% – and there’s a nice big man rotation going right now with Bosh, Bargnani, and O’Neal. Hopefully the winning makes O’Neal happy enough to accept this new role.”
“V-Tech” 3-In-To-Win Give-Away:
The Raptors were 6 of 10 from 3PT range
Next game:
- Raptors @ Nets
– Wednesday January 28 2009 - Tune in at 7:05 for the pre game show and just after 7:30pm Eastern for the “Pizza Pizza” starting line ups

Its funny how people jump off the oneal band wagon. Take away the injuries and the games coming back from injury. He averages 18 points. 10 boards and 2 blocks
- jose haterAttn: this is the driver of the official Raptors bandwagon speaking…the spare tire is on and we’re slowly moving…don’t jump on just yet b/c I don’t think the spare can handle all the weight!!
P.s. Not to hate on the guy or anything…but it was nice seeing Moon on the bench for the 4th…Joey G deserves the playing time, whereas Moon has not earned it (IMO).
- Mr. Tthanks for posting the postgame show makes for great listening. and great another game on tsn2…….. too bad alot of people still dont get that channel me included *sigh*
- rob leeSolid second half. I agree with Mr T…Nice to see Graham getting the time he deserves. Good work overall once the D picked up in the last half of the second quarter! Way to finish!
- AndreaRegardingJO, this is why I was saying that I hope Coangelo will have 2nd thoughts or just delay long enough to evaluate what the Raps can do with everyone healthy.
If there’s a chance to upgrade at the wing without moving any of the big three and Calderone, absolutely do it.
The have to win the next two so that there aren’t so may teams between them and 8th.
If they can do that and not get creamed in the following four that are extremely tough, we can start the turnaround talk.
Right now it’s just a nice two game winnig streak against weak temas.
Go Raps; beat NJ bad…..pls
- GaryIF the Raps can stay healthy; IF they can string together a lengthy winning streak; IF they can squeeze into the playoffs; IF they can catch a break, then MAYBE…The best hope for a second round appearance for the Raps this season, was a 4th or 5th place finish in the east. It looked, at the beginning of the season, like a possibility. However, for whatever reason(s), it won’t happen. The reality is this. Over the next few weeks, teams that feel they can make a run THIS year will be looking to increase their chances by perhaps trading future possibilities for short-term gain. The Raps have several “pieces” that would be appealing to many teams for a playoff run. So, B.C. has 3 choices; He can stand pat…He can trade for the future… Or he can make a move to try to salvage THIS year. It may be a weak draft year approaching, but there’s an incredible wealth of exceptional free agents coming available. Clear cap space, gear up for 2010, and sell Chris and Raptor fans on a potentially promising future rather than the “iffy” present situation.
- jimTalking about 2010 can be tiring, especially thinking about how tempting it would be for Chris Bosh to think about lining up with D Wade, Dwight Howard, etc.
Or is there a “NY Yankees” in basketball that could afford to line him up with LeBron etc???
Thank goodness for the cap…
I prefer to think about the opposite scenario:
Bosh loves believing this is HIS team. And it is , for now. How attractive is it for a high level free agent to line up with Bosh and an emerging Bargs and Calderone with a good basketball mind at the helm???
Aside from the weather, this is a great situation here if we continue to have the future cap space to make something amazing happen.
- GaryNice win .. Let’s take Nets and Bucks .build some confidence and momentum .
- Chas CalzGood to see O’Neal play well.. Hope Pat Riley was watching ..
Barngani’s play has been eye-opener ..He made a driving lay-up that shocked me..
Calderon is developing into a good “Nash-like” team leader , don’t you think ?
I am sorry that I said trade Calderon because Roko was playing good!!! If I am BC I wouldn’t trade JO because he is the best player off the bench then after that is Roko and maybe Moon because the way Graham has played he should get the starting role because he can go inside not like Moon who shoots the weirdest shots ever. I admit that Moon has improved his shooting but, he still not there yet.
I hope only Bosh and Kapono goes to the all-star game because I do NOT want Jose, Baranani or JO to go because they might get injured!
- Raps FanKapono goes to the all star game for what? his 3 pointers? cause he would be useless for anything but that…
