Wednesday January 14 2009 - 10:20pm Eastern
Bulls @ Raptors
Final Score:
102-98, Raptors
“Alice Fazoolis” Player of the Game:
* Nobody joined us. The Bulls pulled a “BULL” move and gave us nobody to talk to. I guess at 17 and 22, the championship must be close and they’re too good to talk to us.
“Smith and Jones” Player of the Game:
- DERRICK ROSE
25 points
10 assists
1 turnover
12/18 FG
* 17 of Rose’s 25 points came in the 4TH quarter
Shout-out to the Raptors:
- ANDREA BARGNANI
31 points
10 rebounds
10/14 FG
9/10 FT
Stats that stood out:
- Rose scored 17 of Chicago’s 34 points in the 4TH quarter
- Bosh didn’t record his first rebound of the game until halfway through the 3RD quarter
- Ben Gordon was just 4 of 13 for 10 points (4 turnovers as well)
- Chicago’s bench outscored Toronto’s … 37-11
Thumbs Up:
- A career-high 31 points for Bargnani. The debate will rage on even stronger now: What do you do with Jermaine O’Neal when he does return to the line up … considering how well Bargs is playing?
Thumbs Down:
- Toronto could have jumped over Chicago in the standings with a win and moved even closer to the 8th seed in the East. But this loss pushes Toronto even further down towards the bottom of the barrel … *8* games below .500. Ouch.
Smith says:
- “It looked like Bosh had a chance to take it to Noah on the baseline on that final offensive play of the game for Toronto. But Bosh pulled back and Noah didn’t bite on the up-fake. I would have rolled the dice with an aggressive drive by CB4 and live or die by a dunk, lay-in or call/no-call.”
Jones says:
“A very disappointing loss for Toronto. They lacked energy early and then couldn’t handle Rose late in the game.”
“V-Tech” 3-In-To-Win Give-Away:
The Raptors were 5 of 13 from 3PT range
Next game:
- Raptors @ Pacers
– Friday January 16 2009 - Tune in just after 7:00pm Eastern for the “Pizza Pizza” starting line ups

Hi Eric,I still believe Jermaine O’Neil is more valuable as an expiring contract than a trade commodity. You are in a win win situation. If he plays well helps your team, if he does not, that’s a big chunk coming off cap space freed up to sign significant talent. To improve the team for the rest of the season I believe the combination of Moon, Parker and Kapono in a three for one or two deal is your best bet. If the bottom fall out this year then that player could come in the draft.
- VictorDevlin: ‘Mooooon’…clunk…
- Mr. TDevlin: ‘Mooooon’…clunk…
Devlin: ‘Moooon’…CLUNK…CLUNK…CLUNK…AIR!!!! Can somebody please tell Jamario to stop shooting the basketball!!! And when he does drive the ball, he needs to stop double pumping everytime he goes up!!! Just b/c he makes a few good plays on the defensive end does not mean he can jack up any shot he wants on the offensive end…i’m really starting to dislike this guy…really!!
I was on hold when the post game ran out of time…so here I come to rant.
First off thanks to Jonesy for the photo op!
Second, that was the most HORRIBLE first quarter I have seen out of the Raps in a long time. Nice to see them rally back to the lead but then again, as seems to be Rap fashion, we blow the lead by bad plays and the dreaded jump shot. There were so many jump shots made tonight instead of driving into the paint, first quarter especially, its not wonder we were losing. Once they decided to get aggressive, OH WOW! Lo and behold we score points, get rebounds and take the lead in the game. As for the final play, AP had NOWHERE to play the ball to and Bosh, again, took the jumper when he was COVERED. Bosh has been somewhat disappointing as of late. The Raptors are in quite the bind with the trade deadline coming up. We need help on the wings badly, but who would want Moon? His salary is also not going to give us very much room, as I think you stated on the show. Kapono has not been playing many minutes and has been inconsistent in his shooting and play when he IS on the court. If Calderon is healthy by the time of the deadline, would they consider trading out Solomon in a package deal?
- AndreaAnd I concur with Mr. T
- AndreaI now gave up on this team. What is the role of a GM? BC should come right now and apologise to the entire Raptors fan. Now we know is not the messiah he is assume to be. Slomon, voshkul, moon and kapono are not NBA calibre players. Please trade them for some good players.
- JohnI am sure this team will not make a playoff.
The option A is not the solution(Changing coach) so what do we do next.
Mitchel was made the sacrifice lamb.
No more multicultural Raptors. This is very pathetic!!
- StevenI just cancelled my raptors tv and sports package with bell. (only have it for basketball)First time i have done this since the raptors tv came out. I am officially done with this team!
- iamdoneAs bad as losing feels, I feel that the majority of Toronto fans have no patience. For me, the season hasn’t turned out the way I expected. However, I love the emergence of Bargnani and if he continues to play this way, I don’t care if they lose every single game this season and re-up for next season by developing players like Ukic and Graham. Even if it is a weak draft, I am sure someone will emerge as a very serviceable wing. I agree that JO is much more valuable as an expiring contract than to be traded for a bag of chips and a marginal wing. If he can be traded for someone who borders star quality and a short contract, props to BC but who in the world would offer him something like that when they smell blood?
Sometimes, you have to take a step back to get even stronger.
As for firing Mitchell, I’m 50/50 on it. I believe that Mitchell is a better coach in practice and Triano is a better coach on the court with more creativity.
- BinsonEric, The return of Chuck was great . The halftime interview was a lovefest .. The loss of Chuck is soften by the fact we have Jonesy and Eric .
- Chas CalzWhat is disappointing is that the Leafs warned their fans they might be lousy , and yet they still have a better record than the Raptors.
Still the cup is half full in the sense a playoff spot is there for the taking .. The key is to keep morale up, and not start talking about next year .
Any word on whether Jermaine O’Neal will be back for the playoffs ?
another Game, same situation. I know BOSH is the AKA ” THE Franchise” but hitting Clutch Shots isn’t his thing. How about Bargnani since he’s on Fire All game and hardly gets a touch down the stretch. Parker was coming up Big in the 4th and is known to make Some really contested Tuff buckets. Come on Now, its starting to get a little predictable for the opposing Teams. That there going to CB4. Nothing changes with this Team. It’s time to add a little bit a flavor in the Mix. Interm Coach or Not, Everyone we Run or Do on this team is predictable on both sides of the Ball. Another Sad Story. It’s like watching a Re-run of some cheesy horror movie.
- rossAnd at the same time I agree with Binson in the fact that even though they are not doing well, I will not give up on the Raps. Take what he said, apply it here, credit to Binson included.
- Andrealets blame the toronto fans for this one too!
- mybad!Eric, How accurate do you think this report is? .. According to Sam Smith -12/22/08 ” “Bryan’s in a panic ” .. he was trying to unload Anthony Parker and also Jermaine O’Neal ..
- Chas CalzSmith quotes an NBA GM as his source ..
CB4 has looked tired and un-interested at times ever since he opend his mouth about wanting to be the MVP! He should have kept his mouth shut and just continued to play at the level he was playing. He is no Lebron or D.Wade …he is a power fwd and a very good one at that but I do agree he has failed to often with the game on the line in the final seconds….some of you might go nuts at what im about to say but BC shold start taking trade offers for CB4 because I doubt he will be back after 2010!
- NeilI fully disagree with Binson. Comments like that show that we the fans settle for less and that some of us fans do not hold the team and the raps organization accountable. Sports is not only about the working hard it’s about progression and at the end of the day it’s about who is the best.
let us not forget
Toronto is 9th in attendance and completely maxed out in terms of salary space, yet we are eight games under .500 and out of a playoff spot and most importantly we have regressed from last year.
When one has budgeted to pay for season tickets, it’s all about results.
- NeilFirst off, you people giving up on the Raps is ridiculous. That’s not what being a true fan is all about. Geez, imagine if you were a Clippers fan. And cancelling Raptors TV because they’re struggling is absurd. If they start winning are you going to subscribe again? Outside of the Raps they show a lot of great games. But anyways…
Second, I’m tired of Jamario starting. He wouldn’t even get the time of day on any other team. He’s not starting material. Please can we play Graham at the 3. We drafted Graham, we didn’t draft Moon. Yes he’s a decent defender but he’s such an offensive liability. And we’ve all been saying for over a year now, Moon has to drive, Moon has to drive it. It’s not going to happen. He’s afraid to take a beating inside. Graham is much more physical, he’s shown to be a good defender, he’s got a better jump shot, and he’s not afraid to take it to the hoop. Maybe if we developed him more and stopped wasting his talent on the bench he would become that 3 we so desparately need.
End of rant!
- MikeI disagree, bosh is not the franchise and will be moved.
- Rob from brantfordKeep in mind Bryan Colangelo was NBA Executive of the Year in 2005 and 2007 ..
- Chas CalzI ‘m pretty sure he will rescue the Raptors this year with a few shrewd trades .. Don’t you ?
Eric, since I don’t have TSN2 can you tell me if the ACC did anything for Chuck? They did they put his mug on the screen or anything like that? If so, what was the crowd reaction like?
thanks,
- ChrisCorrection. Bosh is the franchise and should not be blamed for anybody’s mistakes. You keep Bosh and bring a proper swingman to back him up. Calderon you get him some better back up guards. As for the rest of them…they have got to go.
- StevenJO is going nowhere at hs lowest trade value – take that to the bank.
If someone would take Moon or Parker for any decent value, do it just for fresh blood on the bench.
I’m tired of saying it; Moon cannot start. One strong game every four says you come off the bench. To find a serviceable bench player at his age was a feat enough. You don’t find a quality NBA starter: and they didn’t.
-Start fining them 10K for every (missed) jump shot. Even rich b-ball players will start driving to the tin.
I also agree that I don’t want th hear any of that “start planning for next year, Bosh is gone” stuff.
- GaryWe are not settling for less than best…we are behind the team. To be a fan is to not say that you give up on the Raps and are selling your season’s when they lose, and then they are the playing great and every player has something to offer and so on when they win.
- AndreaJ.O. should come off the bench when he returns. I agree with Mike, Moon will never be an aggressive slasher, it is not in his makeup so it is time to start Joey. Eric have you or can you ask Triano why he hasn’t consistently started him yet?
- O.J.ON the last play of the game Chris takes the jump shot rather than drive and get fouled or drive and make it.
Neil is my main man.
He will probably leave. Now you are trading him for two play-off runs for someone. He is worth much more now than next year.
I think Chris is a great second player. At those key points of the game he cannot taking over. Either you need to be able to dribble the ball or have the power to be unstoppable. Chris has neither.
In the game last night against Chicago he settled for the jumper and was blocked. In the play-off games he settles for the jumpers. If he could play defense like Kevin Garnett it would be OK if he settled on offense but he is not Kevin Garnett.
Chris is trying to be a jumpshot shotter. Lazy basketbell. We need gladiators. Chris is great if someone else will do the dirty work but as our number one player he is sadly lacking. He cannot make the key played because he is neither a 3 or a 4.
- Miles HershbergIT is really stupid to Trade Bosh!!! and why is everyone saying he is the Franchise player???
- CB4 IS GONEIT is Baranani!!!. I am thinking that Bosh won’t come back in 2010 and that they should sign JO back for the Raps and get a SG like a Wade if he want to play for the Raptors because I don’t think Bosh will be back and if Baranani is playing like this for the rest of the season and maybe the playoffs i’ll see this team looking up to Baranani because he can NOW drive in the basket and get a clutch shot! So long CB4!!!!
See you in Dallas!!!!!!
Miles you really need to proofread your stuff.
