Sunday January 4 2009 - 3:30pm Eastern

Magic @ Raptors

Final Score:
108-102, Raptors

“Alice Fazoolis” Player of the Game:
- CHRIS BOSH
23 points
11 rebounds
3 assists
5/12 FG
13/14 FT

“Smith and Jones” Player of the Game:
- ANTHONY PARKER
26 points
4 rebounds
2 assists
2 steals
13/16 FG

Shout-out to the Magic:
- DWIGHT HOWARD
39 points (*tied a career high)
8 rebounds
2 assists
14/19 FG
11/18 FT

Stats that stood out:
- Points in the paint:  42-36 Raptors
- Raptors shoot 54% for the game
- Roko Ukic played the entire 4th quarter and finished with 12 points, 7 assists, and 2 rebounds
- Toronto had only 10 turnovers in the game
- Hedo Turkoglu was just 4 for 12 … for 9 points

Thumbs Up:
- Closing out a quality opponent in the final minutes.  Back to back wins over Houston and Orlando - whodda thunk it.

Thumbs Down:
- Toronto blew a 16-point lead and trailed going into the 4th (before making their comeback)

Smith says:
- “Still undefeated in 2009!  The Raptors played solid defence against the Magic and kept Dwight Howard in check on the glass.  But they have to match this intensity against the Bucks tomorrow; they can’t afford to lose to Milwaukee ’cause that’ll wipe out today’s huge win.”

Jones says:
“This was an outstanding effort on the glass - out-rebounding one of the top 10 rebounding teams in the league.  Anthony Parker was huge and looks to have his groove back after being re-inserted into the starting line up.”

“V-Tech” 3-In-To-Win Give-Away:
The Raptors were 3 of 12 from 3PT range

Next game:
- Raptors @ Bucks
– Monday January 5 2009 - Tune in at 7:30pm Eastern for the pre-game show and just after 8:00pm for the “Pizza Pizza” starting line ups

I should get a thumbs up since I guaranteed a win yesterday. Three VERY winnable games to come. The energy gang was awesome today. All role players did a good job with some hustle and dirty work. At the end of the day hustle and dirty work is what it takes to win games in NBA. Cool stuff today!

Who were all the posters saying the Raps didn’t have a chance? Desire makes strabge things happen.

JO and Jose not even travelling on the roadtrip means they really weren’t a game time decision which isn’t good.

Have to somehow beat the Bucks undermanned again and keep this going.

Amazing win to get when Bosh and JO don’t combine for 40. Kudos to Parker for stepping up but they need to consider sitting Moon down when they get healthy so he remembers how he got here.

    Triano!!!Triano!!!Triano!!!

Raptors offense getting easy baskets by setting up and attacking the middle?
What happened to take your shot make your shot?

Loosen up the perimeter but swarm the middle on defense? It was a pleasure to watch.

I was a two year seasons ticket holder and could not stand it any more so I sold them. I went to the Detroit home game in November and watched the same lousy Raptors team and so I sold the tickets I bought for the year.

I went to this Orlando game and did not recognize the team. Triano!!! Triano!!!

I always thought Andrea had the heart and potential. I always see Bosh in key situations throwing up the Jumpshot. The end of the quarter he gave up the one on one on Howard for a long Jumper. If Bosh drove Howard probably fouls him and is in foul trouble for the second half. I remember flying to New Jersey to watch him go 3 for 15 or something like that in the play-offs two years ago. He is a gifted driver but when the heat is on in the big game he throws up jumpers. Bosh will probably leave anyway. Trade him and get lots.

    Yo Eric,

Bryan said on CBC that Defino might come next year to the NBA or this year if he is not getting paid well enough! what is the chance he might come to the Raps and how much better will they be because Defino can play the 1,2,3 and this guy is what we need!!!

And that Jake.V guy that the Raps got is not bad he is pretty good but, what happened to HUMP?

    How Sweet It Is!!!

So nice to see the team play another gritty game and beat out the Magic!
Great job by Parker stepping up…he was on fire tonight!
The fact that Jose and JO will not be traveling with the team IS troubling, but could also guarantee some serious downtime that they badly need to recover and get back in the line up. If the Raps are playing this well WITHOUT them….wow I can’t wait until their return.
Major Kudos today to Ukic as well!

I would echo Raps Fan’s question above.

I asked a day or two ago if you could comment Eric:
“refresh me as to Hump’s collegiate career. Wasn’t he a flat out scoring machine? What’s his long term future in the NBA- just an energy guy off the bench?”

I like Vosh. because he’s got the crazy eyes going and knows he gets zero minutes without playing hard and smart with good fouls. When was the last time we saw a Raptor push an opposition player out of the paint like Vosh was (trying) to do to Superman. And that guy’s one of the biggger loads in the league.

Hump is a much more complete player and should get ticked off in a good way with some of his energy minutes being eaten up.

Way to go RAp’s. Not only did the team keep “Superman under his avg for rebounds, I belived he did not block any shots? I luv the backcuts, something that has been missing. Moon played like a Rodman clone very active on the boards. Hope he starts to cut to the basket when the ball is at top of the key. J,O. who? raptorized John

    Gary

Kris was an offensive player - nearly 25 per game. But 1 year of college is one thing … playing in the pros … and facing guys bigger, stronger, and more athletic is another

He’s still a solid player that can have a role on this team … if he buys into that role and goes out and does the dirty work and makes the hustle plays.
