Sunday October 5 2008 - 2:00pm Eastern

After a busy week in Ottawa, Sam Mitchell has given his team the day off today.

Following yesterday’s entertaining scrimmage at Carleton, the guys have a chance to just chill-out today … watch some football … and catch up with family and friends.

The Raps will be back at it on Monday before hopping on a plane to Cleveland.

To my knowledge, there will be no radio or TV coverage for the Cavs and Raptors on Tuesday night but Paul Jones and I will bring you the action of the Knicks and Raptors on Wednesday (assuming there’s not a Game 5 between the Rays and White Sox) and I believe Matt Devlin and Sherman Hamilton will have the call on Raptors TV as well.

In the meantime, I thought some of you might find this useful; the NBA Calendar for 2008-09:

Eric, is it just me or does the trade deadline seem a little closer to the All-Star game than usual? Maybe my memory is off. It should make for a very entertaining week in February.

Eric what is the Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational Tournament?

is it for NBA teams or NCAA teams?

    Eric,

What are your thoughts on Haddadi? What are his strengths? And is he the first ever player from Iran playing in the NBA?

Mark … no … that’s the usual time. Right after the Break. That’s why All Star weekend is usually a flurry - with GM’s, etc. all chatting it up and working on potential deals.

Behzad - it’s for NCAA players. Pre-draft camp / workouts.

Beburg - other than the Olympics and stuff on websites, etc. I haven’t seen much of the guy. I’m being 100% honest. I think we’ve gotta wait and see him play a few games before anyone truly makes an educated assessment of his *NBA* game. I’m not convinced he’ll shine as bright at this level and that he’ll match the success he had in international ball. But time will tell I guess.

Beburg, as an Iranian who follows Iran basketball fairly closely, i can tell you that Haddadi is the first iranian in the NBA and he is VERY raw as of now. although in the olympics and at the diamond ball, Haddadi did fill the stat chart up VERY well, but i can say that his game compared to NBA standards might need a little work, mostly on the offensive end. Watching the olympics, he had a lot of trouble vs. Australia and Andrew Bogut mostly with his offensive skill set. he has a good touch and a lot of potential. one other problem with him is he has been noted as having poor work ethic, but im sure playing here in the NBA will fix that problem.

like Eric said, time will tell but im sure he will be a solid player down the road. All depends on himself though and how hard hes willing to work, but he has a ton of potential to be good.

    Hey Eric,

My first time writing on your blog, all though I read it ass much as I can, I enjoy listening to you guyz on the radio side ass well!!!! I think you guyz do a great job calling the games.

I ve been a raptors fan ever since they came into the leauge, so ive been through the ups and down with them. This year has me excited about the team then ever. Even the glory dayz from the Vince Carter years did I think this team has a chance at a championship. Offcourse everything has to fall into place, in order for that to happen. Health being the number one issue…..having said that, do you think that JO and CB4 can be the next twin towers or anywhere close to it? and do you think that im on the right page when it comes to thinking of championship with the team that is in place right now?………thanks and im looking forward to your response and talking hoops with you this season!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Eric and Behzad. I hope he attracts a lot of young people in that region. NBA needs more diversity, I am so happy that an Iranian is in the NBA, even though I am not Iranian.
