To answer a question from another blog, I don’t think Hump has cut his hair yet. Unless he did it last night. I haven’t seen him yet today. But yesterday morning he still had the ‘do.

  2. 2.

FYI - My understanding is that the format for today will be 10:00 minute quarters - running time.

    - E. Smith
  3. 3.

Who do you have your money on Eric? I’m taking the raptors…

    - Dallas
  4. 4.

    Ha! Nice one Dallas!

    - E. Smith
  5. 5.

Alright, the buzzer just went and we’re getting set to start it up

    - E. Smith
  6. 6.

Sounds like whatever team Hump’s on has a shot.

    - Dallas
  7. 7.

They’re getting set to introduce the players — the gym is pretty packed.

    - E. Smith
  8. 8.

Haha, if Kapono doesn’t drain some threes I’ll be very disappointed.

    - Brandon
  9. 9.

Yeah, tickets sold out in 27 minutes or something, its probably a great atmosphere.

    - Brandon
  10. 10.

Eric, Thanks for doing this blog during the game. We all appreciate it!

    - Chris
  11. 11.

So I’m guessing we won’t be hearing JOOOOEYYYY any time soon?

    - Mel
  12. 12.

There are actually some empty seats on one side of the court — held for special geusts and season seat holders, etc. Hopefully they fill up when the game actually starts … cause it looks pretty bad right now … with some people standing around the gym… while those seats go unoccupied

    - E. Smith
  13. 13.

Thanks Chris. I don’t know that there’ll be much to say, but I’ll pass along whatever I can.

    - E. Smith
  14. 14.

If they don’t fill will your blog be blacked out in some markets?

    - Dallas
  15. 15.

Go Red Go White Fight Fight Fight. I am in the house on the E-Smith Live Blog Event!!!

Hey Eric is there any coverage of game vs Cleveland on Tuesday that you are aware of?

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  25. 25.

All of the players and coaches each threw out an autographed mini basketball into the crowd

    - E. Smith
  26. 26.

We just finished with the Canadian and American national anthems

    - E. Smith
  27. 27.

Sam Mitchell grabbed the mike and thanked the city of Ottawa

    - E. Smith
  28. 28.

I don’t think Tuesday’s game is on TV James.

Wednesday’s game should be on the FAN — ditto for next Sunday as well

    - E. Smith
  29. 29.

did he grab the mike all crazed like or did it come across as planned?

    - Dallas
  30. 30.

Jonesy and Sherm just made the drive up to Ottawa as well — sitting next to me right by the far-end bench

And as coach Eric Hughes says of Jonesy and me … “Ebony and Ivory are back together”

    - E. Smith
  31. 31.

Hey Eric. What have you though of J,O’s Cardio/Conditioning so far through training camp?

    - Steve
  32. 32.

Alright, I can’t wait for Bargnani aka the Hulk, to throw it down from the freethrow line.

    - Habby
  33. 33.

what’s the point of having raptors tv if they don’t show any games…..bleh.

    - chris
  34. 34.

Cool. I am coming down to T.O For the RETURN OF HOFFA vs. The T-Wolves on the 16th. I got a free ticket you can’t beat that. How exciting will that be. My money is on Hoffa Gets BOOOOOED!!!

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  35. 35.

Eric, is double dribble gonna be on Raps TV again this year?

    - Brent
  36. 36.

I think J.O. is fine Steve. Some folks were making WAY too big of a deal about his 0 for 3 at the FT line the other night. Give me a break. I think J.O. has been fine. He’s been working out all summer; heavy workouts in Vegas. He’ll be good to go

    - E. Smith
  37. 37.

360 baseline reverse, one dribble from three point line.

    - Dallas
  38. 38.

And Hello To Paul And Sherm!!!

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  39. 39.

it’ll be nice to see if moon has made any improvements over the summer..

    - marty
  40. 40.

Brent - yes, Double Dribble will be back this year

    - E. Smith
  41. 41.

Hey Eric, what you think of Roko so far? I’ve been very impressed with his maturity level and his knowledge of the game

    - nick
  42. 42.

“MOOOOOOOON” haha, good to see Bosh get his deserving ovation.

    - Brandon
  43. 43.

The three point line from the other side of the court, rather.

    - Habby
  44. 44.

Raps TV is great during the actual season with Game Day, Post Up, Double Dribble, Full Court Press, Raptors Today, etc. If I’m not mistaken, home preseason games will be televised (if not live, then on tape delay). There won’t be any RapsTV exclusive regular season games this year, which is a good thing for exposure to the team nationwide on TSN, The Score and CBC.

When will Hoops first broadcast be on the Fan?

    - Mark R.
  45. 45.

The guys are just stretching and warming up right now. Strength and conditioning coach, Keith D’Amelio is putting them to work!

It’s pretty funny actually .. watching the guys stretch out … doing lunges and stuff down the floor … in front of 1500 people.

    - E. Smith
  46. 46.

well whats going on, who is scoring, enough of this small talk

    - Dick
  47. 47.

Nick - good point about Roko. He has been mature and handling things well so far. I know he’s leaning on Jose quite a bit for advice, etc.

I hear Roko is just an absolute sponge for the game as well. All he does is talk ball.

    - E. Smith
  48. 48.

Thanks Eric, good to know. I’m sure he has plenty of time anyways even if his lungs arn’t there yet anyways.

    - Steve
  49. 49.

    but can he make shats?

    - Dallas
  50. 50.

Dick, chill man. if I had anything to tell ya, I would. If you read … I said all they’re doing is stretching, running, and warming up right now.

    - E. Smith
  51. 51.

Looks like we might be getting set to get underway.

The guys are just taking some shots and doing lay-up lines now.

I’m sure a few big dunks will likely be thrown down as well. We’ll see.

    - E. Smith
  52. 52.

You’re lucky Eric is even doing a live blog. Glad to see you can read.

    - Brandon
  53. 53.

Regular season tickets went on sale today around 10am EST if anyone is interested
    check ticketmaster.ca

    - Mel
  54. 54.

I remember when Roko was picked he really had a strong desire to play in the NBA and it had been a big dream of his. He was very upset he had ended up in second round which I am guessing made coming to NBA right away tougher for him $$$ wise.

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  55. 55.

LOL I was just messin around, the name goes with my attitude

I cant help but get on someone who has a hang over to make things tough :)

    - Dick
  56. 56.

lol, it’s really funny until you notice it’s the guys name.

    - Dallas
  57. 57.

Hey Eric what’s your prediction of the Rapts final record, and do you think we’ll be ahead of Philly?

    - Steve
  58. 58.

Hey Eric, exactly how much bigger does Bargs look and do you think it will affect his mobility in any way?

    - Habby
  59. 59.

Dick … no worries. And I’m not hung over dude. It’s all good. My Subway lunch has got me in tip-top shape.

    - E. Smith
  60. 60.

FYI … I just got the confirmation from Matt Devlin that all HOME pre-season games will be LIVE on Raptors TV. Plus the Edmonton game as well.

And it’ll be Devlin and Sherman calling the action on Raps TV

    - E. Smith
  61. 61.

The only Golden State tickets that are left, I believe are the ones that are over $160. The cheapest ones that were left were the $118 ones and I grabbed two, there were very few left when I went to my local Ticket Master at 10 this morning.

    - Brandon
  62. 62.
  63. 63.

I’ve got the white team (Bargnani, Ukic, Kapono, Adams, Humphries, Solomon and Sampson) warming up in front of me.

Solomon and Adams have both thrown down some nice left-handed dunks.

Moon, Bosh, O’Neal, Calderon, and Parker (Team Black) are warming up on the other end. I’m kinda blocked out by Hughes, Jay Triano, and Mike Evans.

    - E. Smith
  64. 64.

Habby, bigger in the arms and chest for sure. Bargs told me he has put on about 12 pounds.

    - E. Smith
  65. 65.

FYI - Solomon, Bargnani, Humphries, Adams, and Kapono “starting” for Team White for what it’s worth.

    - E. Smith
  66. 66.

    Matt Devlin > Ivory…
    I kid Eric!

    - Mel
  67. 67.

Matt is a great guy I look forward to hearing him call some games. He has been really doing a good job getting to know the Raptor Fan Base and I have had some great conversations with him. As for Dick this is the live blog pregame show.

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  68. 68.

Steve - I’m not making any predictions yet. Not ’til we get into the pre-season — not 5 days into camp.

    - E. Smith
  69. 69.

    The GAME is underway …

    - E. Smith
  70. 70.

    Bargs and Hump’s team FTW

    - Dallas
  71. 71.

Hump opens the scoring with a 15-foot jumper

A minute later Jamario Moon answers with a breakout tomahawk jam

    - E. Smith
  72. 72.

    Hey Eric!

First off, I gotta say I love your work man! Its about time we got some B-ball action going, too bad its not televised. I have a question, I understand the team is split into two groups but how does the coaching work? Does Sam coach both teams?

    Keep up the good work!

    Karthik

    - Karthik
  73. 73.

Bosh finds O’Neal cutting through the lane … he hands it off to Jamario Moon with a drop pass; Moon with the two-handed dunk

    - E. Smith
  74. 74.

E, what position is Bargnani playing? C or PF?

    - Irfan
  75. 75.

    Mooooon

    - Dallas
  76. 76.

Hassan Adams ties it at 4-4 with a 20 footer

And then Bargs puts White up 6-4 with a 22-footer

    - E. Smith
  77. 77.

So I assume team Black is the starting lineup and team White is the backups or the starters.

    So it looks like

    C - O’Neal, Bargnani/Hump
    PF - Bosh, Bargnani/Hump
    SF - Moon, Kapono
    SG - Parker, Adams
    PG - Calderon, Solomon

    - Brandon
  78. 78.

Bosh on the right block … backs down Bargnani and beats him with a nice spin move

    - E. Smith
  79. 79.

Bargnani comes right back with a running lay up

    - E. Smith
  80. 80.

Bosh takes it strong on the left block … gets whacked by Bargnani

    - E. Smith
  81. 81.

    Bosh vs Bargnani nice

    - Dick
  82. 82.

    sounds pretty good so far

    - Dallas
  83. 83.

Bosh 1 of 2 at the FT line

    - E. Smith
  84. 84.

I’m thrilled that repeats of the WNBA finals are airing right now on RaptorsTV… that’s exactly why I pay for this channel

    - Tunez
  85. 85.

Bosh with a little lefty hook in the lane

    - E. Smith
  86. 86.

By the way these live blog need a sponsor. I am suggesting SUBWAY as Eric you are a big SUBWAY GUY. I saw you in Hamilton and you had the Subway as well. If Matt Bonner can get some MR SUB love, Subway needs to step up to the plate for you…Back to the Game.

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  87. 87.

OMG Bosh missed a FT, we should see a Dave feshunk article tomorrow on how Bosh blew a FT

    :)

    - Dick
  88. 88.

I gotta be honest folks — I’ve gotta WATCH some of this stuff as well. I gotta scout and take notes; prep for my season!

SO I might not get EVERY bucket in

    - E. Smith
  89. 89.

Humphries with a 15-footer from the right baseline

Followed by 2 of 2 at the line by Bosh

    Black leads 11-10

    - E. Smith
  90. 90.

I havnt seen kapono’s name yet, i hope he doesnt lay an egg like last regular season. He needs to shoot and shoot alot.

    - Dick
  91. 91.

who fouled Bosh the 2nd time?

    - Dallas
  92. 92.

    Man oh man.

The Hump is bringing it midrange style.

    - Habby
  93. 93.

Kapon went down like he got shot … after getting whacked in the lane.

He milked it on the floor for a bit and then got up and waved - like a hero - to the crowd.

It was pretty funny. All jokes.

    - E. Smith
  94. 94.

Kapono goes 1 for 2 at the line … and the quarter ends just after …

    All tied up 11-11

    - E. Smith
  95. 95.

I’ll Shut up till halftime LOL.

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  96. 96.

    Kaponooooooo

    - Dick
  97. 97.

We haven’t seen that kind of showmanship since Vince Carter was here.

    - Dallas
  98. 98.

For the one that asked earlier …

Sam sits back and watches … the assistants coach the teams.

Mike Evans and Jay Triano have the White team.

Alex English is coaching the Black (with Gord Herbert too)

    - E. Smith
  99. 99.

2nd Quarter underway now … with line up changes.

WHITE: Kapono, Bargnani, O’Neal, Ukic, Adams

BLACK: Hump, Moon, Sampson, Parker, Solomon

    - E. Smith
  100. 100.

O’Neal opens the scoring with a 10-footer in the lane

Hump back with a 15-footer from the top of the key

    - E. Smith
  101. 101.

I prefer Mr.Sub, an all Canadian sub place! Their assorted sub is 100x better than Subways.

    But thats for another day.

    - Brandon
  102. 102.

I really appreciate what you are doing Eric.

    - David
  103. 103.

    Will Solomon left-handed break-away dunk

Bargs comes right back with a STRONG move down the lane, through traffic, and a nasty right handed dunk!

    - E. Smith
  104. 104.

    Kapono with the 3-ball

    - E. Smith
  105. 105.

Hey Eric, is Solomon a left handed shooter? You keep sayin’ he’s throwin’ down lefties ?!

    - Miki
  106. 106.

Damn, this must be great to watch for the crowd, and the beat grunts like Doug Smith and Michael Grange.

    - Brandon
  107. 107.

Hey Eric. Thanks for doing this. We hardcore fans truly appreciate it. Is sam coaching both squads? Or are the assistants coaching with Sam in the stands?

    - Rob
  108. 108.

Bargnani with a jab and step back over Sampson from 5 feet on the right baseline

Hump back with a 17-footer from the top

    - E. Smith
  109. 109.

    Thanks David.

    - E. Smith
  110. 110.

    Bargs

    - Dallas
  111. 111.

Hump with another bucket — short jumper from the left corner

    - E. Smith
  112. 112.

Whoops sorry E.Smith. Missed that answer above.

    - Rob
  113. 113.

Damn, like I said…Hump is bringing it with those jumpers. I’m guessing he’s shooting them as much as he can.

    - Habby
  114. 114.

    Score?

    - Rob
  115. 115.

Since when did Hump become a mid-range shooter?!

    - Ryan
  116. 116.

New slogan by the way for Kapono when he makes a 3. “KAP - OH - NOO FOR THREEE!!!”. Sounds better when you read it typed rather than saying it I guess. lol

    - Miki
  117. 117.

wow hump is really looking good

    - Avi from Mississauga
  118. 118.

    This is awesome Eric, thanks.

    - mary
  119. 119.

    Time out WHITE.

    White leads 20-19

    - E. Smith
  120. 120.

so Barg doesn’t look slower after gaining 12 pounds?

    - Gary
  121. 121.

How would you rate Bargnani’s performance thus far?

    - Adam
  122. 122.

    Bosh with the bucket underneath

Calderon comes back … and misses O’Neal on a lob

    - E. Smith
  123. 123.

Eric, who seems to be having the most chemistry playing together?

    - Chris
  124. 124.

Kapono back for White with a 22-footer

    - E. Smith
  125. 125.

Hump with a 17-footer on the right baseline for Black

    - E. Smith
  126. 126.

    first miss so far….

    - Dallas
  127. 127.

Kapono with a drop off pass in the lane to O’Neal with a HARD left handed dunk

    - E. Smith
  128. 128.

Parker back for Black over a nice contest by O’Neal

Kapono then comes back, pulling up over Bosh

And then Hump comes down the lane for Black with a BIG two-handed put-back dunk off of a Moon miss

    - E. Smith
  129. 129.

Note to Raptors…You want to be Canada’s Team this should be the Red and White game.

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  130. 130.

O’Neal long jumper from the right side

    - E. Smith
  131. 131.

O’Neal misses a Magic-like right hook in the lane … allowing black to leak out … finding Humphries for a run-away dunk.

Hump has 10 points in the quarter I think.

    - E. Smith
  132. 132.

Do you want some ‘Phries with that shake.

    - Dallas
  133. 133.

Kapono comes back for White with another 3-ball.

Bosh with a two-handed dunk for Black

And then ANOTHER 3-ball for Kapono

I think Kapono has 14 in the quarter.

    - E. Smith
  134. 134.

Bosh nails a long jumper from the left side just before the clock expires.

White leads 35-33 at the “half”.

    We’ve got a 10:00 minute half now.

    - E. Smith
  135. 135.

Eric just wanted to say thanks for doing this. I’m sure all of us really appreciate it. How does Andrea look, is he taking what the defense gives him, or just kind of not in control like last year?

    - Jas
  136. 136.

Cool So are Sherm and Paul your Halftime guests?

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  137. 137.

How would you rank the players’ performances in this half?

    - David
  138. 138.

For those asking … Bargs has looked good. Especially on offence

Best players in the game so far … easily … Kapono and Humphries.

As Eric Hughes keeps screaming out after Kapono’s buckets “Best shooter in the world”

    - E. Smith
  139. 139.

For the real junkies … here are some halftime stats:

    BLACK: 16 of 25 FG - 64%
    WHITE: 14 of 23 FG - 60.9%

    - E. Smith
  140. 140.

    Humphries has 16 points

    - E. Smith
  141. 141.

Hey eric a short box score at the half wud be cool..

like bosh 6 points 4 reb

    ukic 2 points 2 assist

    - Vick
  142. 142.

Everyone has been talking about depth possibly being an issue on this team but I’m glad to hear some players have improved individually. I know it’s just an intrasquad game but it’s encouraging to know they’ve put the work in over the summer (Kapono getting in better shape, Bargs re-committing himself, Humphries being the gym rat he always is).

Hopefully the tandem of Will Solomon and Roko Ukic can spell Jose well for those 12-18 minutes or so per night that he won’t be in the game.

    - Mark R.
  143. 143.

Kapono leads all scorers with 17 points

    - E. Smith
  144. 144.

    Hey E-

I am confused who is one which team. I think you said Bosh is on black and white.

    Can you clarify?

    - Canoose Allstars
  145. 145.

Do you see a battle for the 2 spot between AP and Kapono?

    - Mel
  146. 146.

How’s the atmosphere in there Eric?

    - Rob. O
  147. 147.

    65% shooting eh?

    - Ryan
  148. 148.

Is Sam just sitting back watching?

    - Dallas
  149. 149.

Canoose … the players are switching from team to team. With only 12 bodies, they have to do this — to get guys rest, etc.

Plus, Mitchell wants to see different combos and stuff

    - E. Smith
  150. 150.

    2nd half underway

Right now … WHITE: Ukic, Kapono, Adams, Hump, Bargs

BLACK: Sampson, Bosh, Moon, Parker, Calderon

    - E. Smith
  151. 151.

    Bargnani with a short jumper

    Bosh in the lane

Parker with a long jumper from the right side

Humphries for 10-feet on the right baseline

    White leads 39-38

    - E. Smith
  152. 152.

did kapono get any better on D or has everyone given up on him getting any better?

    - Avi from Mississauga
  153. 153.

    Hey Eric,
What are your impressions of Ukic and Solomon? Has solomon even stepped on the floor yet?

    - Tim
  154. 154.

    is solomon left handed?

  210. 210.

If you had to give and MVP award today, other than Harry Palmer, who would you give it to?

    - Dallas
  211. 211.

  212. 212.

are they going to replay this game on raptors tv?

  213. 213.

Nothing to say Eric, other than I really dont want to eat crow if Bargnani becomes a good player. So if you could do a tania harding on him that would be cool

    - Harry Palmer
  214. 214.

I know starting is somewhat a case of much ado about nothing, but what do you make of the 2-3 spot starters Eric? Do you think it will be set or change a lot game to game based on matchups?

    - Andy
  215. 215.

Cool Eric Thanks for doing a great job. All the Best to you safe travels back to Toronto for all you guys.

    - Mel
  218. 218.

Dear Harry Palmer- your attention whoring thread is very silly-

Eric, thanks for doing this! So to clarify, the game against the Knicks isn’t being televised?

    - Robert
  219. 219.

i think we going to win the first round this year

    - ac
  220. 220.

And from what I’ve heard in this thread and from a friend in attendence, Bargnani was looking great. I can’t imagine a single Raptor fan who would wish or hope that their 22 year old former number 1 pick would fail, for the sake of their own massive ego… wow

    - Robert
  221. 221.

hey eric what do you think about this years team

    - ac
  222. 222.

    THANK YOU ERIC!

    - Mel
  223. 223.

As for this Harry IDIOT. I will say something where Eric may choose not too. SHUT UP. He is only person doing this and is providing a way for Raptor Fans to follow this in real time. He is doing something that is a good thing for others. Meanwhile you are doing what exactly other than trying to run someone down and failing at it. Real Raptor Fans are happy for Eric and all his fine efforts on behalf of the fans.

    - James Borbath AkA The Dino Blogger
  224. 224.

    Thanks for everything Eric.

Just one question…how did O’neal look on the defensive end? Was he contesting shots and looking like the inside defensive presence that we need?

    - Danny
  225. 225.

You guys are so childish. Why would you pick on Harry Palmer the great who has made the same thread over and over and over for three long years, got roughly 100-200 members banned, made moderators quit, and thinks he is smarter than everyone else?

    - Shaazzam
  226. 226.

Interesting game, even though I think Jermaine O’Neal will last a maximum of 20 games. We will be life or death to make the playoffs.

    - Yogi Stewart
  227. 227.

So is there going to be a box score or something of that nature posted? D:?
