To answer a question from another blog, I don’t think Hump has cut his hair yet. Unless he did it last night. I haven’t seen him yet today. But yesterday morning he still had the ‘do.
- E. SmithFYI - My understanding is that the format for today will be 10:00 minute quarters - running time.
- E. SmithWho do you have your money on Eric? I’m taking the raptors…
- DallasHa! Nice one Dallas!
- E. SmithAlright, the buzzer just went and we’re getting set to start it up
- E. SmithSounds like whatever team Hump’s on has a shot.
- DallasThey’re getting set to introduce the players — the gym is pretty packed.
- E. SmithHaha, if Kapono doesn’t drain some threes I’ll be very disappointed.
- BrandonYeah, tickets sold out in 27 minutes or something, its probably a great atmosphere.
- BrandonEric, Thanks for doing this blog during the game. We all appreciate it!
- ChrisSo I’m guessing we won’t be hearing JOOOOEYYYY any time soon?
- MelThere are actually some empty seats on one side of the court — held for special geusts and season seat holders, etc. Hopefully they fill up when the game actually starts … cause it looks pretty bad right now … with some people standing around the gym… while those seats go unoccupied
- E. SmithThanks Chris. I don’t know that there’ll be much to say, but I’ll pass along whatever I can.
- E. SmithIf they don’t fill will your blog be blacked out in some markets?
- DallasGo Red Go White Fight Fight Fight. I am in the house on the E-Smith Live Blog Event!!!
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerAssistant Coaches just introduced …
And here we go with the players …
- E. SmithRoko Ukic
Jamal Sampson
Hassan Adams
Will Solomon
Andrea Bargnani
Jose Calderon
- E. SmithPretty big ovation for Bargs and Jose …
- E. SmithJoey Graham …
Anthony Parker
- E. SmithJason Kapono
Jamario Moon
(and the crowd chants “Mooooon”)
- E. SmithKris Humphries (with hair)
- E. SmithJermaine O’Neal
- E. SmithChris Bosh (loudest ovation for sure)
- E. SmithHey Eric is there any coverage of game vs Cleveland on Tuesday that you are aware of?
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerAll of the players and coaches each threw out an autographed mini basketball into the crowd
- E. SmithWe just finished with the Canadian and American national anthems
- E. SmithSam Mitchell grabbed the mike and thanked the city of Ottawa
- E. SmithI don’t think Tuesday’s game is on TV James.
Wednesday’s game should be on the FAN — ditto for next Sunday as well
- E. Smithdid he grab the mike all crazed like or did it come across as planned?
- DallasJonesy and Sherm just made the drive up to Ottawa as well — sitting next to me right by the far-end bench
And as coach Eric Hughes says of Jonesy and me … “Ebony and Ivory are back together”
- E. SmithHey Eric. What have you though of J,O’s Cardio/Conditioning so far through training camp?
- SteveAlright, I can’t wait for Bargnani aka the Hulk, to throw it down from the freethrow line.
- Habbywhat’s the point of having raptors tv if they don’t show any games…..bleh.
- chrisCool. I am coming down to T.O For the RETURN OF HOFFA vs. The T-Wolves on the 16th. I got a free ticket you can’t beat that. How exciting will that be. My money is on Hoffa Gets BOOOOOED!!!
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerEric, is double dribble gonna be on Raps TV again this year?
- BrentI think J.O. is fine Steve. Some folks were making WAY too big of a deal about his 0 for 3 at the FT line the other night. Give me a break. I think J.O. has been fine. He’s been working out all summer; heavy workouts in Vegas. He’ll be good to go
- E. Smith360 baseline reverse, one dribble from three point line.
- DallasAnd Hello To Paul And Sherm!!!
- James Borbath AkA The Dino Bloggerit’ll be nice to see if moon has made any improvements over the summer..
- martyBrent - yes, Double Dribble will be back this year
- E. SmithHey Eric, what you think of Roko so far? I’ve been very impressed with his maturity level and his knowledge of the game
- nick“MOOOOOOOON” haha, good to see Bosh get his deserving ovation.
- BrandonThe three point line from the other side of the court, rather.
- HabbyRaps TV is great during the actual season with Game Day, Post Up, Double Dribble, Full Court Press, Raptors Today, etc. If I’m not mistaken, home preseason games will be televised (if not live, then on tape delay). There won’t be any RapsTV exclusive regular season games this year, which is a good thing for exposure to the team nationwide on TSN, The Score and CBC.
When will Hoops first broadcast be on the Fan?
- Mark R.The guys are just stretching and warming up right now. Strength and conditioning coach, Keith D’Amelio is putting them to work!
It’s pretty funny actually .. watching the guys stretch out … doing lunges and stuff down the floor … in front of 1500 people.
- E. Smithwell whats going on, who is scoring, enough of this small talk
- DickNick - good point about Roko. He has been mature and handling things well so far. I know he’s leaning on Jose quite a bit for advice, etc.
I hear Roko is just an absolute sponge for the game as well. All he does is talk ball.
- E. SmithThanks Eric, good to know. I’m sure he has plenty of time anyways even if his lungs arn’t there yet anyways.
- Stevebut can he make shats?
- DallasDick, chill man. if I had anything to tell ya, I would. If you read … I said all they’re doing is stretching, running, and warming up right now.
- E. SmithLooks like we might be getting set to get underway.
The guys are just taking some shots and doing lay-up lines now.
I’m sure a few big dunks will likely be thrown down as well. We’ll see.
- E. SmithYou’re lucky Eric is even doing a live blog. Glad to see you can read.
- BrandonRegular season tickets went on sale today around 10am EST if anyone is interested
- Melcheck ticketmaster.ca
I remember when Roko was picked he really had a strong desire to play in the NBA and it had been a big dream of his. He was very upset he had ended up in second round which I am guessing made coming to NBA right away tougher for him $$$ wise.
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerLOL I was just messin around, the name goes with my attitude
I cant help but get on someone who has a hang over to make things tough :)
- Dicklol, it’s really funny until you notice it’s the guys name.
- DallasHey Eric what’s your prediction of the Rapts final record, and do you think we’ll be ahead of Philly?
- SteveHey Eric, exactly how much bigger does Bargs look and do you think it will affect his mobility in any way?
- HabbyDick … no worries. And I’m not hung over dude. It’s all good. My Subway lunch has got me in tip-top shape.
- E. SmithFYI … I just got the confirmation from Matt Devlin that all HOME pre-season games will be LIVE on Raptors TV. Plus the Edmonton game as well.
And it’ll be Devlin and Sherman calling the action on Raps TV
- E. SmithThe only Golden State tickets that are left, I believe are the ones that are over $160. The cheapest ones that were left were the $118 ones and I grabbed two, there were very few left when I went to my local Ticket Master at 10 this morning.
- BrandonBOOO DICK!!!
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerI’ve got the white team (Bargnani, Ukic, Kapono, Adams, Humphries, Solomon and Sampson) warming up in front of me.
Solomon and Adams have both thrown down some nice left-handed dunks.
Moon, Bosh, O’Neal, Calderon, and Parker (Team Black) are warming up on the other end. I’m kinda blocked out by Hughes, Jay Triano, and Mike Evans.
- E. SmithHabby, bigger in the arms and chest for sure. Bargs told me he has put on about 12 pounds.
- E. SmithFYI - Solomon, Bargnani, Humphries, Adams, and Kapono “starting” for Team White for what it’s worth.
- E. SmithMatt Devlin > Ivory…
- MelI kid Eric!
Matt is a great guy I look forward to hearing him call some games. He has been really doing a good job getting to know the Raptor Fan Base and I have had some great conversations with him. As for Dick this is the live blog pregame show.
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerSteve - I’m not making any predictions yet. Not ’til we get into the pre-season — not 5 days into camp.
- E. SmithThe GAME is underway …
- E. SmithBargs and Hump’s team FTW
- DallasHump opens the scoring with a 15-foot jumper
A minute later Jamario Moon answers with a breakout tomahawk jam
- E. SmithHey Eric!
First off, I gotta say I love your work man! Its about time we got some B-ball action going, too bad its not televised. I have a question, I understand the team is split into two groups but how does the coaching work? Does Sam coach both teams?
Keep up the good work!
Karthik
- KarthikBosh finds O’Neal cutting through the lane … he hands it off to Jamario Moon with a drop pass; Moon with the two-handed dunk
- E. SmithE, what position is Bargnani playing? C or PF?
- IrfanMooooon
- DallasHassan Adams ties it at 4-4 with a 20 footer
And then Bargs puts White up 6-4 with a 22-footer
- E. SmithSo I assume team Black is the starting lineup and team White is the backups or the starters.
So it looks like
C - O’Neal, Bargnani/Hump
- BrandonPF - Bosh, Bargnani/Hump
SF - Moon, Kapono
SG - Parker, Adams
PG - Calderon, Solomon
Bosh on the right block … backs down Bargnani and beats him with a nice spin move
- E. SmithBargnani comes right back with a running lay up
- E. SmithBosh takes it strong on the left block … gets whacked by Bargnani
- E. SmithBosh vs Bargnani nice
- Dicksounds pretty good so far
- DallasBosh 1 of 2 at the FT line
- E. SmithI’m thrilled that repeats of the WNBA finals are airing right now on RaptorsTV… that’s exactly why I pay for this channel
- TunezBosh with a little lefty hook in the lane
- E. SmithBy the way these live blog need a sponsor. I am suggesting SUBWAY as Eric you are a big SUBWAY GUY. I saw you in Hamilton and you had the Subway as well. If Matt Bonner can get some MR SUB love, Subway needs to step up to the plate for you…Back to the Game.
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerOMG Bosh missed a FT, we should see a Dave feshunk article tomorrow on how Bosh blew a FT
:)
- DickI gotta be honest folks — I’ve gotta WATCH some of this stuff as well. I gotta scout and take notes; prep for my season!
SO I might not get EVERY bucket in
- E. SmithHumphries with a 15-footer from the right baseline
Followed by 2 of 2 at the line by Bosh
Black leads 11-10
- E. SmithI havnt seen kapono’s name yet, i hope he doesnt lay an egg like last regular season. He needs to shoot and shoot alot.
- Dickwho fouled Bosh the 2nd time?
- DallasMan oh man.
The Hump is bringing it midrange style.
- HabbyKapon went down like he got shot … after getting whacked in the lane.
He milked it on the floor for a bit and then got up and waved - like a hero - to the crowd.
It was pretty funny. All jokes.
- E. SmithKapono goes 1 for 2 at the line … and the quarter ends just after …
All tied up 11-11
- E. SmithI’ll Shut up till halftime LOL.
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerKaponooooooo
- DickWe haven’t seen that kind of showmanship since Vince Carter was here.
- DallasFor the one that asked earlier …
Sam sits back and watches … the assistants coach the teams.
Mike Evans and Jay Triano have the White team.
Alex English is coaching the Black (with Gord Herbert too)
- E. Smith2nd Quarter underway now … with line up changes.
WHITE: Kapono, Bargnani, O’Neal, Ukic, Adams
BLACK: Hump, Moon, Sampson, Parker, Solomon
- E. SmithO’Neal opens the scoring with a 10-footer in the lane
Hump back with a 15-footer from the top of the key
- E. SmithI prefer Mr.Sub, an all Canadian sub place! Their assorted sub is 100x better than Subways.
But thats for another day.
- BrandonI really appreciate what you are doing Eric.
- DavidWill Solomon left-handed break-away dunk
Bargs comes right back with a STRONG move down the lane, through traffic, and a nasty right handed dunk!
- E. SmithKapono with the 3-ball
- E. SmithHey Eric, is Solomon a left handed shooter? You keep sayin’ he’s throwin’ down lefties ?!
- MikiDamn, this must be great to watch for the crowd, and the beat grunts like Doug Smith and Michael Grange.
- BrandonHey Eric. Thanks for doing this. We hardcore fans truly appreciate it. Is sam coaching both squads? Or are the assistants coaching with Sam in the stands?
- RobBargnani with a jab and step back over Sampson from 5 feet on the right baseline
Hump back with a 17-footer from the top
- E. SmithThanks David.
- E. SmithBargs
- DallasHump with another bucket — short jumper from the left corner
- E. SmithWhoops sorry E.Smith. Missed that answer above.
- RobDamn, like I said…Hump is bringing it with those jumpers. I’m guessing he’s shooting them as much as he can.
- HabbyScore?
- RobSince when did Hump become a mid-range shooter?!
- RyanNew slogan by the way for Kapono when he makes a 3. “KAP - OH - NOO FOR THREEE!!!”. Sounds better when you read it typed rather than saying it I guess. lol
- Mikiwow hump is really looking good
- Avi from MississaugaThis is awesome Eric, thanks.
- maryTime out WHITE.
White leads 20-19
- E. Smithso Barg doesn’t look slower after gaining 12 pounds?
- GaryHow would you rate Bargnani’s performance thus far?
- AdamBosh with the bucket underneath
Calderon comes back … and misses O’Neal on a lob
- E. SmithEric, who seems to be having the most chemistry playing together?
- ChrisKapono back for White with a 22-footer
- E. SmithHump with a 17-footer on the right baseline for Black
- E. Smithfirst miss so far….
- DallasKapono with a drop off pass in the lane to O’Neal with a HARD left handed dunk
- E. SmithParker back for Black over a nice contest by O’Neal
Kapono then comes back, pulling up over Bosh
And then Hump comes down the lane for Black with a BIG two-handed put-back dunk off of a Moon miss
- E. SmithNote to Raptors…You want to be Canada’s Team this should be the Red and White game.
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerO’Neal long jumper from the right side
- E. SmithO’Neal misses a Magic-like right hook in the lane … allowing black to leak out … finding Humphries for a run-away dunk.
Hump has 10 points in the quarter I think.
- E. SmithDo you want some ‘Phries with that shake.
- DallasKapono comes back for White with another 3-ball.
Bosh with a two-handed dunk for Black
And then ANOTHER 3-ball for Kapono
I think Kapono has 14 in the quarter.
- E. SmithBosh nails a long jumper from the left side just before the clock expires.
White leads 35-33 at the “half”.
We’ve got a 10:00 minute half now.
- E. SmithEric just wanted to say thanks for doing this. I’m sure all of us really appreciate it. How does Andrea look, is he taking what the defense gives him, or just kind of not in control like last year?
- JasCool So are Sherm and Paul your Halftime guests?
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerHow would you rank the players’ performances in this half?
- DavidFor those asking … Bargs has looked good. Especially on offence
Best players in the game so far … easily … Kapono and Humphries.
As Eric Hughes keeps screaming out after Kapono’s buckets “Best shooter in the world”
- E. SmithFor the real junkies … here are some halftime stats:
BLACK: 16 of 25 FG - 64%
- E. SmithWHITE: 14 of 23 FG - 60.9%
Humphries has 16 points
- E. SmithHey eric a short box score at the half wud be cool..
like bosh 6 points 4 reb
ukic 2 points 2 assist
- VickEveryone has been talking about depth possibly being an issue on this team but I’m glad to hear some players have improved individually. I know it’s just an intrasquad game but it’s encouraging to know they’ve put the work in over the summer (Kapono getting in better shape, Bargs re-committing himself, Humphries being the gym rat he always is).
Hopefully the tandem of Will Solomon and Roko Ukic can spell Jose well for those 12-18 minutes or so per night that he won’t be in the game.
- Mark R.Kapono leads all scorers with 17 points
- E. SmithHey E-
I am confused who is one which team. I think you said Bosh is on black and white.
Can you clarify?
- Canoose AllstarsDo you see a battle for the 2 spot between AP and Kapono?
- MelHow’s the atmosphere in there Eric?
- Rob. O65% shooting eh?
- RyanIs Sam just sitting back watching?
- DallasCanoose … the players are switching from team to team. With only 12 bodies, they have to do this — to get guys rest, etc.
Plus, Mitchell wants to see different combos and stuff
- E. Smith2nd half underway
Right now … WHITE: Ukic, Kapono, Adams, Hump, Bargs
BLACK: Sampson, Bosh, Moon, Parker, Calderon
- E. SmithBargnani with a short jumper
Bosh in the lane
Parker with a long jumper from the right side
Humphries for 10-feet on the right baseline
White leads 39-38
- E. Smithdid kapono get any better on D or has everyone given up on him getting any better?
- Avi from MississaugaHey Eric,
- TimWhat are your impressions of Ukic and Solomon? Has solomon even stepped on the floor yet?
is solomon left handed?
- MikiUkic on the drive … little head fake … gets Parker to commit … and drops in a short jumper for White
- E. SmithI see our defense has improved LOL
- DickBargnani posting up on Sampson gets a nice pass from Adams.
Hacked as well (bucket good)
1/1 FT … White leads 44-38
- E. SmithSampson gets whacked underneath by Adams
He got his right wrist/thumb taped at the half … and seems to be favouring it.
1/2 at the line.
- E. SmithSounds like Bargnani is destroying anyone infront him, good to hear
- DickAs I said - Sam is watching.
He’s letting his assistants coach.
- E. SmithThen ask him what he thinks about Sarah Palin for me, please Eric.
- DallasCalderon finds Sampson with a great pass in traffic. Sampson with a big left handed dunk, and one. He misses the FT though
He’s really favouring that right hand
Will Solomon comes back with a pull up in the lane (no, he’s not left handed)
Then Parker responds with a long jumper from the left corner over Kapono
White is up 46-44
- E. SmithTriano being groomed to replace mithcell at seasons end
- DickIs there a distinct difference between Andrea’s pre-season last season compared this this one?
Is there a fire or a passion that he’s showing this year, almost like he has something to prove?
- DeeI wouldn’t read too much into defensive stats in a scrimmage on Day 5 of camp folks
- E. SmithO’Neal ties up the game with a jumper from the right elbow
- E. SmithGetting hurt would be a good career move for Sampson and devastating for the raps.
- DallasHas Oneal had any blocks and aprox whats his rebound numbers like
thanks
- DickAdams gets the steal on Calderon and drives in for 2
Parker answers with a 3-ball for Black off some nice ball rotation around the perimeter
Hassan Adams comes FLYING in for a tip-in at the buzzer off a miss by Bargnani
White leads 50-49 heading into the 4th
- E. SmithNice!
- DallasCalderon clumsy with the ball, we should of kept TJ HAHA
I kid I kid
- DickMore t-shirts for the fans!
- E. SmithWow, Hump is really bringing it, Adams and Soloman sound better than anticipated, but what about Bosh and Calderon, we’re not really hearing much about them, are they getting a lot of minutes or what?
- SalmanO’Neal going into the 4th:
8 points, 1 rebound
- E. SmithHumphries 18 points, 10 rebounds
- E. SmithThanks, just wondering will there be a box score up some where on the net after the game
thanks
- DickBosh 15 points, 6 rebounds
- E. SmithBargnani 13 points, 4 rebounds
- E. Smith4th quarter underway … Parker with the lay-in
Followed by
A strong move underneath by O’Neal … out-muscling Bargs and Hump
Adams then comes back off a lob attempt from Kapono
Black leads 53-52 with 7:21 to go
- E. SmithI don’t know if there’ll be a boxscore or not Dick. Not sure.
- E. Smithi like chris game
- acBosh with a long 20-foot jumper
- E. SmithHow many rebounds does Bargnani have? I need to know so that I can bring it up in my gigantic attention whoring thread.
Thanks.
- Harry PalmerO’Neal nice left-handed hook in traffic in the lane
- E. SmithBlack leads 57-52
- E. SmithMoon finds O’Neal cutting down the lane for a big left-handed dunk in traffic
- E. Smithwhat is the position barg playing
- acGood to see O’Neal doing well
- Davidseems like the game is picking up now
- MelO’Neal with a MONNNNNSTER left-handed dunk right in Humphries’ grill
He then mugged for the crowed on the baseline
- E. SmithWOW cool, Oneal in crunch time
- Dickdo you see any video cameras there Eric?
- Dallashow is kopono doing
- acHey, could everyone pay attention to me for a second? Pretty please? I’m going to make a massively long post that I need everyone to read.
- Harry PalmerHump just got dunked on AGAIN … this time off a monster left-handed dunk by Bosh.
Bosh then posed down too; crouching down and flexing his muscles like a wrestler or something
- E. SmithHumps lookin good
- abdiahha bosh
- abdiBargnani back for White
Followed by a tap-in for Moon
Black leads 65-54
- E. SmithI don’t know what you want me to say Harry. Hey there!
- E. SmithBargnani with another jumper from the top of the key
Followed by a running lay-in by AP.
We’re into the final :30 seconds
- E. Smithis kopono throwing some threes
- acHonestly there isnt anyone in the NBA that can handle our frontcourt of Bosh, Jo and bargnani
We are going places this year folks
- Dickhow much time left?
- abdiGame over.
Black wins 67-56
- E. SmithFYI … the starters out-scored the 2nd unit in that half … 18-6
- E. Smithgg…need boxscore now
- Avi from Mississauganice
- abdiFinal numbers for the players if you got some time please and thank you
great job as always!
- DickTalk about closing.. J.O. must’ve had a flurry of about 8 points in the last couple minutes to seal it for Black. Hopefully it was entertaining for those in attendance.
- Mark R.If you had to give and MVP award today, other than Harry Palmer, who would you give it to?
- DallasThanks for everything Eric
- Davidare they going to replay this game on raptors tv?
- acNothing to say Eric, other than I really dont want to eat crow if Bargnani becomes a good player. So if you could do a tania harding on him that would be cool
- Harry PalmerI know starting is somewhat a case of much ado about nothing, but what do you make of the 2-3 spot starters Eric? Do you think it will be set or change a lot game to game based on matchups?
- AndyCool Eric Thanks for doing a great job. All the Best to you safe travels back to Toronto for all you guys.
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerHarry you are so lame.
- DeknowEric, can we get a recap of the players for each team in the final minutes of the game>
- MelDear Harry Palmer- your attention whoring thread is very silly-
Eric, thanks for doing this! So to clarify, the game against the Knicks isn’t being televised?
- Roberti think we going to win the first round this year
- acAnd from what I’ve heard in this thread and from a friend in attendence, Bargnani was looking great. I can’t imagine a single Raptor fan who would wish or hope that their 22 year old former number 1 pick would fail, for the sake of their own massive ego… wow
- Roberthey eric what do you think about this years team
- acTHANK YOU ERIC!
- MelKeep up the good work on TheFan and all the Raps related material
As for this Harry IDIOT. I will say something where Eric may choose not too. SHUT UP. He is only person doing this and is providing a way for Raptor Fans to follow this in real time. He is doing something that is a good thing for others. Meanwhile you are doing what exactly other than trying to run someone down and failing at it. Real Raptor Fans are happy for Eric and all his fine efforts on behalf of the fans.
- James Borbath AkA The Dino BloggerThanks for everything Eric.
Just one question…how did O’neal look on the defensive end? Was he contesting shots and looking like the inside defensive presence that we need?
- DannyYou guys are so childish. Why would you pick on Harry Palmer the great who has made the same thread over and over and over for three long years, got roughly 100-200 members banned, made moderators quit, and thinks he is smarter than everyone else?
- ShaazzamInteresting game, even though I think Jermaine O’Neal will last a maximum of 20 games. We will be life or death to make the playoffs.
- Yogi StewartSo is there going to be a box score or something of that nature posted? D:?
- Rob O.Alright, I just finished getting some post-game tape. You can hear the clips on the FAN later this afternoon / this evening.
I wanna get the heck outta here - and get back to Toronto.
Here’s a quick make-shift boxscore for you stat freaks:

Talk to ya later folks

- E. Smithty
- suawesome eric, thanks
- axlwhy were all you asking dumb questions when Eric was blogging?…let the man focus…and most of your questions are so damn obvious.
- e.money
