Lost Music List-May 25, 2010

May 25th, 2010 by don.jackson

Today’s podcast is … Lost.

Actually, it is available for you to listen to either through the CHFI website or iTunes. In a sense, it was inspired by the series finale for the hit ABC TV series, ‘Lost,’ that aired this past Sunday evening. The show ran for six years in prime time and gathered a respectable audience for the story of plane crash survivors on a mysterious island somewhere in the southern Pacific Ocean. I watched the series recap that aired before the final episode and heard about all the ‘Easter eggs’ the creators and writers included throughout the long-running program. A lot of these so-called ‘Easter eggs’ were the subjects of a lot of Internet chatter among fans. Clues were also embedded in the programs alluding to what was really behind the mysteries of the island and its new arrivals. And I would imagine that the series finale will be the subject of Internet chatter for weeks to come.

Today’s podcast features a few ‘Easter eggs’ of my own that won’t be so hard to discover if you were a fan of the TV program that aired here in Canada on CTV. Some of the written material featured in the program relates to the storyline. There is even a selection of background music that has a strong connection.

Here is the music list for the show.

Already Gone-Kelly Clarkson

Leaving On A Jet Plane-Chantal Kreviazuk

Don’t Know Why-Norah Jones

Love You Lately-Daniel Powter

Fantaisie-Romentika

Arthur’s Theme-Christopher Cross

Right Here Waiting-Richard Marx

Watching The Wheels-John Lennon

Daniel-Elton John

Need You Now-Lady Antebellum

I Look To You-Whitney Houston

Lost-Michael Buble

Night Parachuting-Jim Lamarche

I would be interested to read your comments on the series. You can post them in this blog if you wish or send me an e-mail through this website.

I hope you will enjoy a few lost moments during my podcast today…

Victoria Day Music List-May 24, 2010

May 24th, 2010 by don.jackson

It’s Victoria Day and the end of the long weekend. I hope you had a safe weekend especially where fireworks were concerned. In our neighborhood last night, there may have been an incident concerning fireworks and injuries. You can never be too careful when setting off fireworks especially in this heat.

For my readers in the southern hemisphere now experiencing autumn, we are celebrating an early start to summer with extremely warm temperatures. Our May long weekend is usually the weekend when swimming pools are opened and flowers are planted. You can usually rely on the weather cooperating from this point forward. We’ve had some rather cool nights over the past week, but the weather has changed dramatically.

Many people celebrate the Victoria Day long weekend at the cottage on one of the many northern lakes just outside of Toronto. Be careful on the drive home tonight. The highways will no doubt be busy with commuters returning from opening summer homes.

My wife and I were at a garden centre this afternoon picking up a few annuals for our gardens and it was a very busy place, so a lot of people decided to stay home this weekend to tend to their gardens and take advantage of the beautiful weather.

There is a podcast for this Victoria Day Monday. It’s simply called “Colors” since our nighttime skies overhead will be ablaze in color with professional and amateur displays of fireworks tonight.

Here is the music list for today’s program.

With A Little Luck-Paul McCartney

I’ll Be-Edwin McCain

Lay Lady Lay-Bob Dylan

Fragile-Sting

Shady Day-Jacksoul

Wings

May 18th, 2010 by don.jackson

Today’s podcast deals with the subject of “On The Wing.”

I received this incredible writing in my e-mail some years back. You may have already read this or heard about it. It is featured on many sites all over the Internet. If you have never read or heard about this writing, this will give you something to think about. Since the podcast deals with the subject of ‘wings’, I thought this writing appropriate to feature in my blog today.

“An article in National Geographic several years ago provided a penetrating picture of God’s wings. After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno’s damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother’s wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body. The mother had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, those under the cover of her wings would live.

“As it said in Psalms: ‘God will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.’”–Author Unknown
