Another step to becoming healthier!
March 8th, 2009 by dianna.lankinIf you have ever dieted, or just tried to eat healthy, you know how hard it is to eat at a restaurant because you never know exactly what they put in their meals! But now there is something that will make eating out a little less stressful- The provincial government plans to restrict trans fats in all B.C. restaurants!
A little background for you in case you didn’t know- Trans fat comes in two forms. Some naturally occur in meat or dairy products. Others are industrially produced, in oils, spreads and margarines, and hidden in prepared foods like doughnuts, croissants and other baked goods. The health risks associated with trans fats are serious for people of all ages. Trans fat increases a person’s risk of coronary heart disease by raising levels of bad cholesterol and lowering levels of good cholesterol, leading to clogged arteries.
Anyways, the regulation come into effect on Sept 30th (did I mention we are the very first province to do this?). All food-service establishments must comply with the new regulations- That includes restaurants, delis, cafeterias, educational institutions, health-care institutions, schools, special-events kitchens and bakeries.

I guess that means I can feel just a LITTLE less guilty about eating my favourite food (pictured above). The name of that delectable dish will get you some gold digger points!
