Pick of the week:  Revolutionary Road (10/10):  The best movie of the week by far.  One of the best movies of the past year as well.  Kate Winslett, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kathy Bates and Michael Shannon are magnificent.

Revolutionary Road

Blu-Ray of the week:  Neil Young – Archives, Volume One:  Highly-anticipated, often-delayed massive box set of Neil Young’s gigantic body of work.  Well, the first volume thereof.  Will carry a hefty price tag.  Will likely be worth it.

Defiance (7/10):  A solid war movie about a group of Jewish war resisters in Poland, but it smacks of Hollywood and isn’t gritty enough to be great.  Some good scenes about people living with other people, but not enough character development from the stars.

DefianceComme Une Etoile Dans La Nuit (6/10):  A decent French movie about a couple dealing with a diagnosis of terminal cancer.  Salome Stevenin is terrific (and hot and naked), but she can’t carry the movie by herself.

He’s Just Not That Into You (3/10):  A dreadful romantic chick-flick that wastes good performances by Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long by creating a Hallmarkish self-help book pile of crap.

Fanboys (5/10):  A movie for the uber-nerds out there – only the nerdiest of the nerdy Star Wars fanatics will truly appreciate it – for the rest of us, it’s just kind of cute, and kind of simple.

Cannon, Season Two Volume One (5/10):  William Conrad is growing on me.  There is still nothing remarkable about this private investigator show, but the fact that the protagonist is so fat is somehow interesting and compelling.  A wash.

Anacondas: Trail of Blood:  You know, I actually enjoyed the first Anaconda movie.  But not enough to believe that it deserved an extensive series of sequels.

Spring Breakdown:  A solid cast – Amy Poehler, Parker Posey, et al – in a movie that sounds idiotic.  Some thirtysomething women who have been lifelong geeks get a chance to do spring break…right.

Prison Break Season Four:  This series got real silly, real fast.  Which means that Season Four is likely even sillier than Season Three.

Weeds, Season Four:  One of the absolute best shows on TV.  Well worth it – if you haven’t seen it, rent it.
