Chages @ Country 107.1
October 3rd, 2011 by Curtis Pope
I figured I should put a blog together and give some insight to the changes here at the station . As you are well aware Kenny’s last day here was Friday . For some reason in this industry when you move on to another gig the previous station basically doesn’t acknowledge that you existed . I can’t really tell you why its just the way it is . I think it’s a case of moving forward and not looking back . More or less its kind of an unwritten rule in radio that once a person moves on you just don’t talk about them . Today I’m breaking that unwritten rule . I have mixed emotions about losing my buddy Kenny Jones , first off I’m proud of him . Kenny is following his dreams on to that major market gig and I admire him for it . After a decade in country radio it’s tough to jump into a different format . I have total faith that Kenny will hit it out of the park day in and day out at his new gig . On the down side I’m losing my partner in crime , my right hand man and a great team player . You know what Kenny can do behind a mic but its what he does behind the scenes that will really be missed . As a team there wasn’t much me and Kenny couldn’t get done , we had each others backs and basically we could almost read each others minds and get stuff done . I’ve been in radio for 11 years now and I’ve worked with over 40 announcers over the years .They all moved on at some point for whatever reason but losing Kenny has been the toughest loss so far . It just doesn’t feel right in the hallway today . Now that being said we have a new guy coming in next week and I think you’re going to really like him . All I ask is keep an open mind and give him a couple weeks to get comfortable and get a feel for what’s going on a round him . I closing I want to thank you for your loyalty and friendship over the last 6 years . I’m only doing one blog while we wait for Ian so I’ll up the ante , you find this code “PALS” is worth more then the usual blog code

Cell Phones
July 28th, 2011 by Curtis Pope
Yesterday afternoon we took the kids to Mill Lake Park . I was sitting there on a bench as my kids played on the playground . I grabbed my blackberry and checked a couple emails . Then for some reason I looked up and looked at the other parents around the playground . there were a dozen or so parents there and like me about 10 of them were either on the phone or texting / emailing . I had an epithany at this point . I’m way to attached to my phone and so is a large portion of our population . Read the rest of this entry »
Local Talent
July 27th, 2011 by Curtis Pope
This morning I’m sitting here and for what ever reason I started thinking back to our big break contest . It was really a blast to be part of something like that . Just think about some of the talented people who were entered in that contest . Todd Richard for example has a single out , you’ve probably heard it here its called Zero To Hero and its getting air play coast to coast . Hayley won the contest and is touring with Chad Brownlee and creating quite a buzz with her guitar playing and singing . Hayley will be a big star there is no doubt in my mind about that . Ceciley Dickey was in the top 5 and she dropped off her first singhle and you’ll be hearing it soon and its a good one . Jesse Burch was also in the Big Break Contest and we all know how well his first single did , Whiskey Tree had a great run on the T0p 5 @ 5 and now him and the Derailers are opening up our Country for Kids concert . I think its fair to say that the local scene is hotter then its ever been despite the fact there aren’t as many places to play . Speaking of locals its Ken McCoys birthday today so your bonus code is “OLD GUY ” Kens going to smack me for that but I can run faster scared then he can angry
Kenny / Curtis
July 26th, 2011 by Curtis Pope
It seems as of late that folks are having a tough time telling Kenny and me apart . Its actually kind of funny . I’ve had a couple phone calls in the last couple days where folks have called me Kenny . A couple weeks back Kenny did an event where he got called Curtis . I can see where there may be some confusion . We’re about the same height and build , but I’m a little taller and probably heavier . We both have dark hair , except you’ll find more grey in mine which makes sense because Kenny has caused most of them .Now if Jones was here he would comment that he’s way better looking but i figure thats debatable ……I think we both have faces for radio . Another difference , Kenny runs every day and I only run if there’s somebody chasing me or there’s a buffetat the end of the run . I’m a little older but Jones has lived a harder life because he looks older but again that might be debatable .Granted Kenny is like the little brother I never wanted and we do pick on each other alot . Grant pointed out we sound very different but he also says we both pick on him the same so maybe we have a lot of common traits but for the record we are different people , we even show up at the same events some times
One big difference between us , I can give extra points !! Your bonus code today is “identity”
Summers Here …well kinda
July 25th, 2011 by Curtis Pope
Happy Monday ! So it may be safe to say that summer is here ? The weekend was beautiful , lots of fun in the sun . We headed south yesterday to see the out laws at the Black Mountain Ranch . If you’ve never been there its basically a trailer park for people with money , hence why the in laws have a place there and I don”t . Just down the road there’s a little place that has awesome pizza , this is a place straight off of Diners , Drive in’s and Dives . Its called The North Fork Brewery, Pizzeria, Beer Shrine and Wedding Chapel . The pizza is amazing , some of the best you’ll find this side of Chicago . One thing that continues to baffle me is how Ice Tea can be so different once you cross the border . I like the ice tea across the border but my son forgot about the difference and ordered one . I guess its fair to say it caught him off guard so i added some sugar and managed to “Canadianize ” it for him . Trust me if you get a chance drop and and grab some a pizza or 2 . Trust me its worth the trip . Enter “NORTH FORK” for your morning show blog points .
Happy Friday
July 22nd, 2011 by Curtis Pope
As you can tell Kenny is off for a week to rest up for Agrifair . He takes these things very serious , I bet he’s been going over the schedule for days now so he can take every single thing in . Grant and me have a simple plan , eat as many mini donuts as humanly possible . So lets go with that as the bonus code “ mini donut”
Good Morning !!!!
June 10th, 2011 by Curtis Pope
Hey Folks , Kenny and Grant are both off today so I’ll be your guide through Friday Morning. I’m not sure but think Kenny hurt himself jumping off the bandwagon and Grant’s weekly Dungeons and Dragons game went a little long last night . So you’re stuck with me this morning . Canucks are in action tonight and a lot of folks are really down on the boys and it kinda irks me . As a die hard fan its annoying to watch people turn on the team . Its always been this way and i guess it always will be . That doesn’t make it right . I look at it this way , how many of us have played in the NHL ? better yet how many of us have ever played in a Stanley Cup Final ? Not very many hands in there air are there ? We have little to no idea what its like to be out there on the ice for something like this . Sure I get frustrated with the team at times and I know 40 years without a cup is a thorn in all our sides . That being said lets try to be a positive , send out some positive energy and support The Canucks win or lose . I figure the emergency wards in every hospital in the lower main land should be full of people with broken legs from jumping off the bandwagon at this point . I’m not saying you have to be the biggest fan in the world , I understand there are even a few folks who don’t like hockey ……….I know I’m as shocked as you are ! All I’m saying is cut the boys some slack , yes they lost the last couple games and the games were ugly but today’s a new day and the Canucks need some positive vibes thrown their way . Win or lose the Canucks are my team and always will be, GO CANUCKS GO !!!!!! oh right you need a bonus code don’t you , enter LINDEN as in Trevor Linden and I’ll give you some extra points just to tick off Kenny
New music !!
February 14th, 2011 by Curtis Pope

I get new tunes from the top Canadian and international stars and lots of independent tunes from folks just starting out . Now there is no way I can play every tune for any number of reasons . So in the next couple weeks i’m going to start to feature a new tune every day around 4:15 pm . Happy Happy Joy Joy !!! its Friday
February 4th, 2011 by Curtis Pope
Happy Friday !!! its been a fun couple of weeks working with Grant but its time to hand the reighns back to Kenny ! Come Monday 6 am Kenny will be back in full force , that means studio Bob will be back with Melon Scratcher madness too . As for me next week it looks like I have a Deric Ruttan lined up to talk about his Juno nomination , he claims he’s speechless about it . If thats true it could be a really , really short interview . I caught most of American Idol last night , I have to admit I miss Simon but I ‘m really liking Steven Tyler’s judginging style , nothing like having a music legend tell you that your singing is less then stellar ! Todays Bonus code is “AI”
