Even though we’ve seen some lightning over the last week or two, we’ve been lucky in the Fraser Valley in terms of forest fires.

Fire information officer Donna MacPherson says the rain helped.

“The lightning that came in on the weekend down in your area did come with a bit of precipitation so it brought the fire danger rating down from moderate to low. We are expecting that rain to evaporate fairly quickly thought so I would see in your area it would probably rebound to moderate pretty quickly and it may even go in to high soon.”

MacPherson says there were 14 lightning fires on the weekend but they are all either well under control or out.

There is still the risk of human caused fires.

MacPherson says people need to keep their campfires half meter square or smaller, and avoid fires if there are high winds.
