You’d think a blizzard had hit over the weekend, judging by the number of car accidents in Abbotsford on the weekend.

Abbotsford police say five cars lost control and went off the road, three in the Sumas Way/Highway 11 area alone.

There were also eight collisions over the long weekend that police say were related to the weather.

That’s the number you usually see during the winter months, not the middle of spring.

Alcohol apparently wasn’t a factor in any of the accidents.

Police speculate that there may have been a layer of oil built up on the roads during the warm days, which became slippery once the rain hit.

They say drivers should slow down and be extra careful the first rainfall after a period of dry weather.
