More sad news from the music world today. Davy Jones, lead singer and – I’m gonna say it – most charming member of The Monkees died from a heart attack at age 66.

American Idol promised to surprise us last night. The top 12 guys performed, and a mystery 13th was saved. The deep-voiced (and previously-eliminated) Jermaine Jones was brought back! Tonight, the top 12 ladies perform.

And almost two years later, there’s a rumored bombshell regarding Michael Jackson’s final album – the one released after his death. Allegedly, in a video chat between his daughter Paris and some friends, she revealed that the voice on the album isn’t her father. The chat was recorded, and video is now being shopped around to the tabloids.

It was par for the course in a not-very-surprising Academy Awards.  The entire motif of the show was old-time cinema, so it was no surprise when silent-era throwback The Artist won Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Picture.

The Razzies – the awards that honor the worst in film – have made history, with a record 11 nominations going to one single actor. Adam Sandler hold the dubious honour of Razzie frontrunner, serving as, among other things, actor/producer for Jack & Jill, as well as producer on a  number of reviled 2011 films.

Real-life Navy SEALs helped Act of of Valor capture the box office this weekend, with $24 and a half million. Enter bonus code SEALS for 500 points. Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds came in second, with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island rounding out the top 3.

The National Enquirer is facing some blowback today for publishing a picture of Whitney Houston in her coffin, that was snapped at her funeral. Readers complained it was rude, tasteless, and took up valuable space that could have been better spent on psychics’ 2012 Doomsday predictions.

‘Over at NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” the show must go on…but it’s a few contestants lighter. A number of them walked off the show after it was revealed losers from previous seasons would be brought back to compete for the cash prize. It was intended to be a twist, but the real surprise is that two of the contestants who walked off have been fired from the show. This just went from reality TV to drama pretty quickly.

And, proof he should have been the winner – American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert has confirmed he will be singing with legendary rock band Queen, at a headlining concert in England on March 7th.

Can we expect a repeat of this year’s Grammy’s? Tonight’s Brit Awards are expected to go in a pretty similar fashion, with Adele winning everything. She’s nominated for Best Single, Female Solo Artist and Album of the Year. You wonder if the competition’s even going to show up.

New movies out on DVD today, Leonardo DiCaprio in the historical bio-pic J. Edgar, or check out Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller and Matthew Broderick in Tower Heist.

And is this a scummy move? You decide. Whitney Houston’s movies have been removed from Netflix and other similar video streaming services, in hopes that more people will go out and buy the DVDs, in the wake of her death. On top of seeming kind of crass, were you ever going to BUY “13 Going on 30?” Well, now you have no choice.

New movies in theatres today – Nicolas Cage returns in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance; Reese Witherspoon stars in the action-meets-romance This Means War, and for the parents & kids alike, the animated Secret World Of Arrietty.

Kim Kardashian is rumored to be interested in arranging a date with New York Knicks basketball star Jeremy Lin. Really Kim? Another professional athlete? Didn’t the last one teach you anything? Or the one before that?

If you’re planning on picking up Twilight: Breaking Dawn on DVD or Blu-Ray, you’re not alone.3 and a half million copies were sold in the first two days it was on the shelves, along with 50 thousand downloads and 80 thousand digital rentals.

Whitney Houston’s funeral is set for this Saturday, and while the family’s decided it’ll be a private affair, there are still some high-profile guests attending. And it doesn’t get more high-profile than Oprah Winfrey, who’s expected to be in attendance.

Convicted felon Chris Brown

Chris Brown was at Rihanna’s birthday party last weekend. Realizing it would be seen as not—so-cool to be there (since his felony assault against Rihanna three years ago), Chris sent his bodyguards into the party to approach each person and demand that they didn’t reveal he was there. Obviously it didn’t work. And obviously, Chris Brown is a huge creep.

And here’s the weirdest story for today! Remember the old Degrassi High, and Degrassi Junior High? Neil Hope, who played Wheels – and also played bass in the Zit Remedy, is dead. Even more of a shock, he died five years ago, and nobody knew til now. His family says Wheels passed away in November 2007 of ‘natural causes.’ Not much more is known.

RIP Wheels.

A collective sigh of relief was breathed by the world today, as Adele backtracked on statements that she’d planned to take a five-year break. The comments were from an interview with Vogue that Adele says “aren’t true.” She says at this point, she’s so busy, a five-DAY break would  be nice.

It was coincidence, but Glee struck just the right note last night. The show featured a rendition of Whitney Houston’s song “I Will Always Love You,” and while it was a good scene anyway, it served as a fitting tribute to the late superstar. Glee’s producers say they plan a Whitney tribute episode in the near future.

If you don’t like Justin Bieber yet, what is it going to take? Flying a 6-year-old cancer patient and her family to New York City to spend the day together? Because that’s what he did this past week. An online campaign caught Justin’s attention, and he was in touch with the family immediately to make plans.

Adele was the big winner at last night’s Grammys – no surprise. She went 6 for 6, winning every category she was nominated in, including Song of the Year for “Rolling in the Deep,” and album of the year.

The other story of the Grammys was the death of Whitney Houston. She was found submerged in her hotel room bathtub Saturday evening. The autopsy has concluded it was a mix of prescription drugs and alcohol that lead to her death. Whitney Houston was 48.

So close to Valentine’s Day, it’s no surprise that a romantic movie earned the most money over the weekend. The Vow came out on top, followed by Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington in the action-packed Safe Room.

It’s a good night to be indoors. Go check out a new movie! Join Jay from Jay & Kerri in the Morning, he’ll be seeing Star Wars Episode 1 in 3D all weekend. Romantic-Comedy The Vow is also out. The Rock stars in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, or the action-packed Safe House, starring Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington.

Fans of the TV show House have got to be a little disappointed – the show will be coming to an end this season. The good news? It was a decision made by the show’s producers, so the final episode, which airs in May, will send the series off properly. And most likely with everyone finally slapping House for being such a jerk the last 8 seasons.

Macaulay Culkin is not an undead zombie, even though a recent photo shows him looking like rough. He’s thin, pale, and disheveled. Pretty much how Daniel Stern looked by the end of the first Home Alone movie.

We’re only a few episodes in, but it’s a safe bet there’s going to be a third season for The Voice. Christina Aguilera has signed on to judge next season, for a reported $10 million! The other judges – Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Ce-Lo Green, are expected to return as well.

American Idol hit the Hollywood rounds this week, and has already said goodbye to a high-profile contestant. Jane Carrey, daughter of Jim Carrey was up last night. Her singing wasn’t enough for the judges, who sent her home.

Russell Brand isn’t interested in Katy Perry’s money. It’s not like he’s hurting financially, but he’s still being a decent guy for not going after the $20 million he’s entitled to, if he wanted it. The divorce becomes official in June.
