THE DISH: Dark Shadows Over the Box Office; Idol’s Surprise Bottom Two; Canada’s Got Talent Finals!
May 11th, 2012 by Andy Cole
One brave movie is going to attempt to make any money this weekend, competing against the Avengers juggernaut. Tim Burton & Johnny Depp team up for the vampire-comedy Dark Shadows.

A bit of a surprise in the bottom two on American Idol last night. Phillip was facing elimination for the first time ever! He stayed alive for one more week, however, as Holly Cavanagh was sent home.

And there will only be one winner for this weekend’s conclusion of Canada’s Got Talent. Performances are Sunday night, and the winner is crowned on Monday. Dance team Sagkeeng’s Finest are representing Manitoba.
Britney Signs on X-Factor; Trouble for Hollie?; Miley not LOLing
May 10th, 2012 by Andy Cole
The rumors are put to rest! Britney Spears has signed on as the third judge for the upcoming season of the X-Factor. She’ll be sitting alongside Simon Cowell and LA Reid for a cool $15 million for one season. Still no word on whether they plan on replacing ex-host Steve Jones with another entertainer, or a cardboard cutout. Enter bonus code BRITNEY for 500 points.

American Idol’s final four faced off, with Joshua Ledet stealing the show. It could be trouble for Hollie Cavanagh when elimination comes around tonight. Her performance was the only one that got any disapproval from the judges.

Miley Cyrus might have been a bit shocked at the box office numbers for her new movie “LOL.” It got limited release at select theatres, which is probably why it pulled in only $50,000 last week. She says she’s still proud of the movie, and loved making it.
Dancing Results; Avengers Find Misplaced $7 Million; Underworld pt 14 on DVD
May 8th, 2012 by Andy Cole
Another couple gets dropped from Dancing With The Stars tonight. Last night’s show featured a regular dance and then a trio dance. William and Cheryl took the top spot with 57 out of 60 At the bottom were Melissa & Maks with 51.

Yesterday, you heard on the Dish that the Avengers broke the record for opening week at the box office. It was reported the film made $200.3 million worldwide. It turns out that number was a little off. It was actually $207 million. Not that anyone’s counting, right?
If you’re staying in tonight, grab something new on DVD or Blu Ray. New on the shelves – get romantic with Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in The Vow, or the tenth movie in the Underworld series Underworld: Awakening.
THE DISH: Avengers Assemble Massive Audience; Judge Chaka Khan; Judge Howard Stern
May 7th, 2012 by Andy Cole
It was the biggest opening weekend for a movie – ever! Living up to –and then exceeding – expectations, The Avengers earned over $200 million internationally, destroying the $169 million mark set by the final Harry Potter movie.

There’s another name in the unending parade of music stars rumored to be a judge on the upcoming season of The X-Factor. The difference is – nobody asked her. Chaka Khan, who would admittedly be cheaper to get than Britney Spears or Miley Cyrus – has sent word to the producers that she’d be up for the role.
There’s some judge issues going on over at America’s Got Talent – a TV watchdog group – the Parents Television Council – is urging a boycott of the show, due to the addition of new head judge Howard Stern. Enter bonus code STERN for 500 points.
THE DISH: Sagkeeng, Represent!; Down Went Urkel; Does Demi Have the X-Factor?
May 2nd, 2012 by Andy Cole
We’re less than two weeks from the finale of Canada’s Got Talent! Representing Sagkeeng First Nation and all of Manitoba, Sagkeeng’s Finest has made it to finals! Catch them going for the grand prize May 13th. Enter bonus code SAGKEENG’S FINEST for 500 points.

It wasn’t so lucky for a certain child star on last night’s Dancing With The Stars elimination round. Jaleel and Chelsea in the bottom two, and only one could be saved. Jaleel White went home.

We’re coming close to finding out the new judging lineup for X-Factor. The likely choices are between Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and newly added to the mix – teen star Demi Lovato, who’s well known from her role on the TV show ‘Sonny With a Chance,’ and between the three of them, would probably cost the least to sign for a contract.
THE DISH: Idol Down to 5; New Movies; McHero
April 27th, 2012 by Andy Cole

He doesn’t just play a lifesaver on TV – after a car flipped over multiple times just outside his home, Patrick Dempsey raced to the wreckage, crowbar in hand, and pulled the driver to safety. No serious injuries, though the car was totaled.
THE DISH: Bey-ootiful; Madonna Can’t Give Her New Album Away; Bieber’s Other Baby Song
April 25th, 2012 by Andy Cole
Beyonce has been named People magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman! She says she’s felt more beautiful than ever because she’s given birth. And probably because she dropped almost all the baby weight already. Seriously, have you seen her?

Madonna’s new album is selling okay, but apparently she can’t even give the thing away for free. Included in the extremely high ticket price for her concerts is a free download of the album, though a full 20% of ticket holders haven’t downloaded it!

And in a brilliant move of turning Bad Press into Good Press, Justin Bieber says he’s written a song about that crazy girl who said he was the father of her son.

There’s a couple of new movies on DVD and Blu-Ray today, one of them is probably one you meant to see but didn’t. Oscar-sweeper The Artist is on the shelves, as well as action-thriller Contraband.
THE DISH: New #1; Lindsay Gets Banned; Could Matthew Perry BE Any More Getting Back on TV?
April 23rd, 2012 by Andy Cole
Hunger Games was unseated from top spot at the box office this weekend. Dropping to number 3, it was behind new releases The Lucky One, and Think Like a Man, which earned about $33 million.

Lindsay Lohan’s judgement appears to be getting better. After getting into two minor scuffles over the past week at the same club, she’s now banned herself from going. I guess it’s better press than having the club do it for you.

Matthew Perry’ heading back to TV. His new half-hour sitcom has been picked up for an initial half-season by NBC. It’s called Go On, and revolves around a sportcaster, played by Matthew Perry. Enter bonus code CHANDLER for 500 points.

April 20th, 2012 by Andy Cole
It was the end of the road for another American Idol hopeful. Kinda-rocker Colton Dixon was sent home in what was a bit of a surprise. He’d been in the bottom three before, but had also been a fairly consistent performer. We’re down to the final 6 now.

New in theatres today, The comedy Think Like a Man, the G-Rated Chimpanzee, and Zac Efron stars in The Lucky One, based on the book by The Notebook author Nicholas Sparks.

America’s Next Top Model just cleared out their staff as if they were contestants who couldn’t get the hang of smizing! J. Alexander, Nigel Barker and Jay Manuel were all canned. Tyra Banks is about all that’s left. Enter bonus code TYRA for 500 points.
