5 people managed to walk away from a medevac flight that crash landed shortly after takeoff in northern Manitoba. The pilot ditched the plane Saturday night, when fire broke out in the cockpit. Everyone on board, including a mother and toddler, managed to scramble out as flames engulfed the fuselage and fuel tanks.
It was a supervised leave that went bad. Kevin Hiebert, a Winnipegger serving a life sentence in Greece for drug trafficking, has gone missing. Back in 1999, Hiebert was busted with two kilos of cocaine in his luggage at an airport in Athens. He had tried numerous times to get his sentence transferred, so he could serve his time in this country…but to no avail. Earlier this month, Hiebert was on supervised leave, and disappeared.
So, you think voter turnout is on the decline ! A new study by Stats-Can says fewer people are filling out census forms too….even though it’s the law. The agency says more than 4 per cent of the population was missed in the last census in 2006, making for the biggest gap since 1991. The ranks of the missing are pegged at 1.4 million people…out of the country’s total population of 32.6 million.
And the latest vampire movie certainly drew the hunger of weekend moviegoers. The film “Twilight” earned more than 70 million U.S. in its opening weekend. The latest James Bond flick, “Quantum of Solace” dropped to second, but has now crossed the 100 million dollar mark faster than any other Bond film. Disney’s “Bolt” opened up at number three with a 27 million dollar take.
