Fedeli calls for wind turbine moratorium
Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli has called for an immediate moratorium of further wind turbines in the province of Ontario. Fedeli says this was in response to an announcement by Health Canada. In collaboration with Statistics Canada, Health Canada wll conduct a study researching wind turbine noise and the health effects being reported by those people living near those wind power developments, including areas like Powassan and Mattawa. Fedeli says he has heard from a number of these people from across the province, and believes a federal study, and proposed moratorium will be good news for them. The results of the study are expected in 2014. Meantime, Fedeli says the Liberal government’s decision to relocate a gas plant in Ontario is going to cost all residents in the province. Ontario Energy Minister Chris Bentley announced yesterday the relocation of a 280-megawatt gas power plant from Mississauaga to the Ontario Power Generation’s Lambton Generating Site. The plant was cancelled last year by the government, and its relocation will cost $180 million, a penalty Fedeli says will be either added to the provincial debt, or added to Ontario residents’ monthly hydro bills.
