Hand Hygiene focus of provincial report

A provincial report on hand hygiene at North Bay Regional Health Centre gives the local facility low marks compared to other large hospitals in Ontario.   The provincial reporting tool on the Health Ministry website looks hand hygiene compliance from April 1, 2011 to March 31st, 2012.  In the large hospital category, only two other hospitals have a lower before patient compliance rate than North Bay, which is at 56.99 percent.   Meantime, the local facilities 73.8 percent after patient compliance rate is the lowest.  The provincial averages are 80.52 percent before and 88.23 percent after.   In terms of positive information, the local facility’s surgical site infection prevention rate is 96.48 percent in the first quarter of the year.  And Surgical Safety Checklist Compliance is at 99.94 percent.
