Electronic finger print system installed by city police
North Bay Police Service has installed a new Livescan system. It’s an electronic fingerprint system which allows city police to submit fingerprints to the RCMP and receive a response within a very short period of up, of between several minutes to 24 hours. The system replaces the current paper-based system, which uses ink and paper, with submissions sent to the RCMP via regular mail. That system has often resulted in back logs with fingerprint submissions to the RCMP. The Livescan system will significantly reduce that back log. Outgoing Deputy Chief Al Williams says Livescan is run over phases, and says the Police Board has received approval for funding for the first live scan machine. The second phase involves the purchase of two more LiveScan machines, for which the board will apply for funding in the future.
