Resident speaks out against casino idea

June 5th, 2012

In 1997 the answer from the city was “no” when it came to a new gambling facility. Fast forward 15 years and that is still the feeling for at least one resident. Don Priebe made a presentation at council last night concerning a recent announcement that named North Bay b as a potential site for the OLG. Priebe says gambling will only bring on negative social ramifications, and the only thing it will increase is employment for police and addiction councilors. Priebe says with the bingo halls and sports betting we already have enough gambling venues in the city. He says it doesn’t make the city a better place. In comparison to a city like Fort Erie, he says the quality of life there hasn’t increased. Council has yet to look into the issue.
