City Council Having Their Say on a Couple Hydro Issues
City Council says North Bay Hydro is not for sale, as an electricity sector review is underway by the province. The review is looking at the 18 cents that stays here from every dollar paid locally for electricity. Councillor Dave Mendicino says the province should come up with ways to manage North Bay Hydro as it is running efficiently – and adds the 82 cents going to the province should also be part of the study, which includes the global adjustment rates. Mendicino says they are hearing this rate is putting local companies out of business. For some medium sized companies in North Bay, he says their hydro bills are going up 42% and more. Mendicino says they are hearing if the global adjustments costs are not reviewed, some will be looking at relocating their business. Council supported Mendicino’s motion at Monday night’s meeting, which calls on the province to consider small and medium sized companies that use over one mega watt. They supported a second motion for full consultation during the review, consolidation should be voluntary and there is no interest to sell North Bay Hydro.
