Sounding the alarm about privatizing rail services

April 4th, 2012

A warning about privatizing rail service from the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions. President Michael Hurley tells CKAT News they’re concerned the divestiture of the ONTC will put peoples lives at risk. He points to the privatization of British Rail saying there was a huge increase in fatalities because of poor track maintenance. Hurley also says few passenger rail services in the world are profitable, pointing out transportation in cities like Ottawa and Toronto are subsidized and people in Northern Ontario should have the same service.  Overall, Hurley says they’re hoping the province will re-consider it’s decision to sell off the ONTC.
