Committees Approved to Look at NNDSB Accommodation Changes
The Near North District School Board is looking into making better use of its school. On Tuesday night, the board approved setting up Accommodation Review Committees. First, to amalgamate J.W. Trusler, Dr. MacDougall and King George. Chair Kathy Hewitt says they are all school low in enrolment. She say the three will probably move to the Pinewood Public School property, since they own that site. She says they will find out whether its cost effective to demolish the building and build a new school or refurbish and add on to the existing building. Also, an ARC will look at moving students from Marshall Park and Tweedsmuir to Silver Birches, while the Grades 7s and 8s go to West Ferris. Hewitt says parents will be notified along the way. She says they will call a meeting and then the ARCs are required to have four public meetings. Recommendations from the committees are expected in the fall.
