Documentaries about U2 and Pearl Jam will be screened for the first time at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival in September.

From the Sky Down, a film about the making of U2’s 1991 album Achtung Baby, will open the festival – the first time a documentary has done that in TIFF’s 30-plus year history, according to Spinner. The movie was directed by Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman), who pieced together old footage of the band making the album with new interviews with U2’s members.

Meanwhile, Cameron Crowe’s Pearl Jam documentary, Pearl Jam Twenty, will premiere at the festival on September 10. The film depicts the alt-rockers’ 20-year career. There’s a good chance of Eddie Vedder and pals showing up at the fest, because Pearl Jam have schedule two concert dates in Toronto on September 10 and 11.
