CLAPTON: MORE FROM THE VAULTS…

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Eric Clapton is the subject of two album releases this week. Universal Music has re-issued Cream‘s Disraeli Gears – Rarities Edition. The album is in mono and contains nine bonus tracks, including demos and alternate takes.

The second release is a live take on Clapton’s 461 Ocean Boulevard, recorded at London’s Hammersmith Odeon on December 4th and 5th, 1974. However, though the concerts are from the same year as the 461 album, only two songs from that album are on this release — “I Shot the Sheriff” and “Let It Grow.”

DOORS: CLASSIC GIG @THE WHISKEY!!

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Ray Manzarek says if he could go back and record a Doors concert that’s never been heard, it would be one from the group’s first stint at the L.A.’s Whisky A Go-Go, when The Doors opened for the Irish group Them. At the final show the two bands and their singers — Jim Morrison and Van Morrison — jammed together on Van and Them’s anthem, “Gloria.” The Doors’ keyboardist says the image of Van singing into a mic attached to a stand he was holding upside down, while Jim sits on top of an amplifier is “seared in my brain.”

JOHN MELLENCAMP: BOX SET IS DONE!!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

John Mellencamp has set June 15th as the release date for his four-CD, 54-track career-spanning box set, On the Rural Route 7609. Unlike typical box sets that tend to be presented in chronological order, this one is laid out as if each of the discs were a freestanding album. 17 of the songs are unreleased, including the demos of “Jack and Diane” and “Authority Song.” The set also contains a 72-page book in which Mellencamp tells the story behind each song. As for the title of the set, Mellencamp says, “I started making records in ’76, and the most recent track on the collection was done in ’09. So Rural Route 7609; it’s like an address. I thought it sounded cool.”

JASON BONHAM: SUPERGROUP IN THE WORKS…

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

The unnamed supergroup with drummer Jason Bonham, former Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes, guitarist Joe Bonamassa and former Dream Theater keyboardist Derek Sherinian will continue despite a Facebook post to the contrary from their producer Kevin Shirley. On his Twitter page, Hughes denies the report, saying, “Just spoke to Kevin. We are working hard to deliver the greatest new rock album of the year. We are passionate.” Shirley then updated his post, saying, “I believe there is a salvage operation to rescue survivors from the downed plane. I have just had a big conversation with Glenn, who is mortified about the situation, as he has really put his heart and soul into it…” The band was formerly called Black Country until they discovered there is another band with that name.

92 CITI FM would like to invite all of our listeners to actively participate in our campaign to persuade Roger Waters to play Winnipeg in his forthcoming tour that begins September 15 in Toronto.  As you may or may not know, Roger will be performing “THE WALL” in its entirety, just as he had done with “Dark Side of the Moon” in 2008.  One of the most spectacular shows ever witnessed in Winnipeg, an encore performance would surely prevail as one of the biggest live concert highlights for 2010!
