CLAPTON: …and who’s this?
Friday, February 26th, 2010
Just three days after finishing his six-date tour with Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton will hit the road with special guest Roger Daltrey. The tour starts tonight in Pittsburgh and runs through March 13th in Orlando. This is the second of three tours this year in which Clapton shares the bill with another famous classic rock act from the U-K — he’ll tour Europe in May and June with Steve Winwood.
Clapton’s band this time out includes two keyboard players, bass, drums and two background singers, as he handles all the guitar duties. One of the keyboard players is Chris Stainton, who has played with Clapton for many years. Clapton tells us, “He’s kind of like my security blanket. When he’s there I know I’m alright.” –

They’ll make their way across the continent, winding up in Italy on July 3rd. Steven Tyler says on AeroForceOne.com, “Back by popular demand with more spit and fire than ever before, we’re coming across the pond and parting the waters as we go.”

JIMI HENDRIX…
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
The name Jimi Hendrix apparently still has considerable cache…40 years after his passing!
March 9 will witness the release of his three studio albums, including “Smash Hits”, “First Rays of the New Rising Sun”, “Live at Woodstock” and the newly discovered “Valleys of Neptune” with 12 never-before heard tracks. Before they turn off the machine, there is also an official Jimi Hendrix Ipod Touch and coming soon, a “Rock Band HENDRIX” edition is reportedly in the works for later this year!
Lots of big things happening on CITI for March, including a different Hendrix title on TURNTABLE CLASSICS every Monday evening @9 throughout the month; and a Hendrix A to Zed Weekend March 5-7.
THE SAGA OF ABBEY ROAD CONTINUES…
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
The saga of Abbey Road Studios will probably have a happy ending. But we’re still not sure just how the sale/no sale/celebrity investor story will play out after E-M-I’s announcement over the weekend that it expects to hang onto the building.
- Roger Daltrey told London’s Absolute Radio, “It’s only a studio and they’re kind of not needed anymore really, are they?” He then added that Abbey Road has “got an incredible history.”
- The Daily Express of London reports that Andrew Lloyd-Webber may have pledged 50-million dollars to save the iconic North London facility.
- Florida’s Saint Petersburg Times says E-M-I needs to raise 150-million dollars quickly to avoid breaching loan agreements with Citibank and other lenders. That crunch could force a decision sooner than later.

RUSH: Hello Cleveland?? Not yet.
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
Rush drummer Neil Peart has updated his website with a detailed account of his recent recording of “The Hockey Theme” for Canada’s T-S-N network. In the piece, he says, “Isn’t it funny that Rush is represented in the Motorcycling Hall of Fame, Hockey Hall of Fame, Canadian Music Hall of Fame, Canadian Songwriting Hall of Fame and the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame — but not yet in the ‘official’ rock pantheon?” Rush has yet to be nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, despite having been eligible since 1999. –Sal Cirrincione

(And isn’t it funny that by then the band will have been represented in the Motorcycling Hall of Fame, the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Songwriting Hall of Fame, and the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame-but not yet in the “official” rock pantheon? Passing strange . . . )
