U2: Tour Dates Announced!

Monday, October 26th, 2009

U-2 announced tour dates for next year via a live appearance on YouTube last night. The leg begins June 6th in Anaheim, California, and ends July 19th at the new Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. The band’s tour itinerary then continues in Europe, with shows into October. Click here for a complete list.

Though U-2′s No Line on the Horizon debuted at number-one and has sold more than a million copies, Bono thinks it could have done better with a hit single. He tells the Associated Press, “We weren’t really in that mindset, and we felt that the album was a kind of an almost extinct species and we should approach it in totality and create a mood and a feeling, and a beginning, middle and an end. And I suppose we’ve made a work that is a bit challenging for people who have grown up on a diet of pop stars.”

U2 has been confirmed for Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium for June 23, 2010; Toronto’s Rogers Center July 3, 2010, and Montreal July 16, 2010.  I have it on good rumour that there are negotiations presently in play to bring U2 to Winnipeg for a summer show as well.

The first leg of U-2′s North American tour ends Wednesday in Vancouver, followed by a performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert Friday night at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

PIRATE RADIO (comedy) Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost, Kenneth Branagh. Based-in-fact tale of a boat that illegally broadcasted rock music in 1960s England.

“Renegade Radio” by any other name!  Back in the 60s, the burgeoning rock music scene was relegated to a pre-determined time slot on the BBC – the country’s national broadcasting service.  In those days they referred to it as “needle time”, which often fell on weekends, and then, maybe for an hour or two.  Given the publics’ thirst to hear the latest sounds more often, the concept for a mobile broadcaster operating outside of the broadcasting perimeters of the BBC gave licence to this novel, albeit illegal concept.

If you love radio…if you simply love rock n’ roll…go see this movie!!

Classic Rock Shorts

Paul McCartney‘s appearance this summer on The Late Show With David Letterman will be repeated tomorrow night.

Eric Clapton plays on the new album by comedian and actor Bill Cosby, State of Emergency, in stores November 24th.

A 10-pack of Queen songs goes on sale today for the Rock Band video game for X-Box 360 and Wii and Thursday for PlayStation 3.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame releases a nine-disc D-V-D set today via Time Life, with performances, speeches and backstage highlights from its more than 20 years of annual inductions. A parade of legends from Aerosmith to Z-Z Top receive rock’s highest career honor — and show their human side at the podium and artistic brilliance on stage. Paul Shaffer, who serves as musical director of the annual ceremonies, recalls them in the years before they were televised as “a totally spontaneous jam session…and an awful lot of excitement came out of it.” While not every performance was vintage, each captures a moment in time. And with the passage of time, the appearances of George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Maurice Gibb, Bo Diddley, Levi Stubbs and Bobby Hatfield could never again be duplicated.

As we’re filming the L-A show, it’s the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium. Fans often travel long distances to come to see U-2 — this time U-2 can go to them, globally.” The show will be streamed across five continents and will be available for two full replays on U2.com and You Tube.

DEF LEPPARD: WINNIPEG SHOW CANCELLED!!

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Def Leppard have canceled the third leg of their North American tour with Cheap Trick due to unforeseen personal matters. A statement at DefLeppard.com says, “We know how truly blessed we are to have such committed fans. That’s why we’ve agonized over this decision. Even if just a single concert, we don’t take cancelling shows lightly, but unfortunately life’s commitments need to be the priority.” Refunds are available at the point of purchase. The tour was scheduled to start on Thursday in Reno, Nevada.

This is the third time in the past few years that Cheap Trick has been on a tour where the headliner canceled the dates — it happened twice with Aerosmith. Cheap Trick will try to re-schedule some of the shows.

P.S. Those 92 CITI FM ALL ACCESS VIPs who spent points on their entries for Def Leppard tickets will be promptly reimbursed!!
