The lead track off of Cheap Trick‘s new album, The Latest, is “Sick Man of Europe.” That was the name of the band guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos were in before teaming up with Robin Zander to form Cheap Trick. Nielsen says, “We were together about a year…and every time we say Sick Man of Europe, people say, ‘What?’ And that was one of the reasons why we ended up with a name like Cheap Trick. I wanted a household name where you didn’t have to go, ‘What?’” The Latest is available through the band’s website and Amazon. It hits stores next Tuesday.
Cheap Trick are on tour with Def Leppard and Poison.
