Luka Magnotta is due back in Montreal court today, via video link, charged with first degree murder and defiling Jun Lin’s corpse. Magnotta’s lawyer may ask today for a psychiatric evaluation.

The man accused of killing three fellow armoured-vehicle guards and wounding another during a robbery in Edmonton is expected in court today. 21-year-old Travis Baumgartner will be formally charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

A Winnipeg police officer who rescued a 15-year-old boy from the Red River this last weekend, had to be rescued himself. Constable Kevin Gibson dove in and started to tow the teenager back to shore when he sank up to his waist in the river bottom. He held the boy out of the water while he was in water up to his neck until a Winnipeg Fire rescue boat got there.

Officials haven’t officially called it a murder just yet, but a 26-year-old woman died after being stabbed in an apartment building parking lot yesterday morning. The assailant fled on foot and there have been no arrests made yet.

Environment Canada has confirmed what we’ve all been experiencing, a very wet spring.  Not record breaking, but we still have seen some rain roughly 30 days out of 50 and an average temperature of 17 degrees.  The good news, the next few months should be a lot drier and warmer and it looks like it all starts tomorrow.

A man is presumed drowned after apparently jumping off of the Norwood Bridge and into the Red River over a bet with a friend Wednesday. Rescue crews began searching the water just after 6 p.m. but did not find the man.

Parliament is expected to start their summer break today. MPs won’t be back in the House of Commons until September 17th. Nice gig if you can get it!
