Manitoba’s Public Utilities Board says it should be regulating how much Winnipeggers pay for water and sewer service. Right now, Winnipeg’s water and sewer utilities “cross-subsidize the city’s general revenue fund by approximately $45 million per year.” This means that about 20 percent of water and sewer revenue isn’t used for water and sewer but ends up in the city’s general coffers.
The Royal Canadian Mint will make Canada’s last penny today, here in Winnipeg. The ceremonial last strike of the penny starts at 11 a.m. with federal Finance Minister, Jim Flaherty, on hand at the Mint’s coin production facility on Lagimodiere.
Two weekends ago, the play structure at King Edward School on Selkirk Avenue was vandalized so badly that inspectors condemned it, because it’s too dangerous to play on. Now they’re looking to the community to help raise the $120 thousand dollars to rebuild. You can drop off your donations in person, or mail them in to the Winnipeg School Division. They will be giving tax receipts for donations over $10.

Demi Moore has officially moved on from estranged husband Ashton Kutcher after dropping his name from her Twitter account. I always thought it was really lame that her old handle was @MrsKutcher but, finally, now after being separated since November, she’s gone and changed it to @JustDemi.
Mick Jagger has signed on to host the season finale of Saturday Night Live. Reports suggest he will also be the musical guest when he hosts the show on May 19. It’s actually a pretty good line up for the next few weeks: Eli Manning this Saturday and former SNL regular Will Ferrell on May 12.
