Grassfires in southern Manitoba Saturday destroyed a few buildings, including a home near Anola. Selkirk firefighters called in water bombers and help from neighbouring volunteer fire departments Saturday night. That large grass fire was finally put out on Sunday afternoon.
The power is back on in South Winnipeg after a hydro pole fire put St. Norbert, South St. Vital, Richmond West, Fort Richmond and Ile des Chenes in the dark. Manitoba hydro crews were still working the problem on Marchand Road early this morning.
Two men were treated in hospital following separate stabbings over the weekend in the North End and Elmwood. Both a 30 year old and a man in his 20s are in stable condition.
The Crown announced Saturday it won’t appeal the Mark Stobbe not-guilty. Stobbe was charged with killing his wife Beverly Rowbotham with a hatchet in their St. Andrews backyard back in 2000.
The RCMP seizing $70,000 worth of counterfeit stuffed animals, T-shirts, and toys after raiding two stores at The Forks, one at St. Vital Centre and one at Portage Place. The counterfeit toys included Nintendo, John Deere, Hello Kitty, NHL, Hasbro, Sesame Street and Transformers and were all being sold for retail price or higher.
