It was, officially, the warmest weekend in March since Environment Canada began keeping records as temperatures stayed high yesterday for the fourth consecutive day in Winnipeg. Farmers may get that moisture they’re hoping for later today. We’re expecting a high of 25 C for Monday and a 60 per cent chance of showers.

Air Canada’s flights seem to be running on time today after an unusually high number of pilots called in sick this weekend, resulting in a large number of flights being cancelled. Air Canada and it’s pilots are currently in the middle of a labour dispute.

Aveos employees in three cities – including Winnipeg – were given notice yesterday that it’s members were laid off. About 250 workers in Winnipeg are affected and close to 25-hundred across Canada.

More than 150 Winnipeg police officers saw a 10-month investigation pay off Friday with the arrest of 11 gang members and associates. According to police, there are only four local members of the Hells Angels not currently in custody, which means they’ll have to shut down until they can recruit other people as their charter requires seven active members to function.

Graham James pled guilty in December to sexually abusing NHL star Theo Fleury and his cousin Todd Holt in the 80’s and 90’s. Tomorrow we find out what his sentence will be. The Crown is asking for 6 years in jail while defence has suggested a conditional sentence of up to 18 months.

A Seattle defence attorney meets today with U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, who is alleged to have attacked two Afghan villages while they slept, shooting and killing 16 people, including nine children and setting them on fire. The 10-year Army veteran has yet to be formally charged.

The Manitoba government may soon make it illegal for cyclists to ride without a helmet. Most other provinces already have helmet laws though, in Alberta it only applies to children. We don’t know yet if this could apply to other sports, like rollerblading, but the new law may come into effect as soon as April 17th.

The comedian Gallagher is talking and joking with his family after being taken out of a medically induced coma that doctors put him in after his heart attack last week. While he may not be smashing watermelons any time soon, his manager says he appreciates his fans’ thoughts and prayers.

Alice Cooper picked up an honorary doctorate at the Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music Los Angeles this weekend. He was the keynote speaker for their grad class, telling them: “Mediocrity is your greatest enemy… If you’re going to be in this business, don’t be afraid to go out on that limb as far as you can.”
