Sledders listen up ! Arctic Cat is voluntarily recalling more than 16 thousand snowmobiles because of a possible loss of control. The company says the front lower suspension arm can crack during use, which could lead to an accident. The company has received 13 reports of such cracking, but so far fortunately, no injuries or accidents. Consumers should immediately stop using the machines and contact a Cat dealer for a free repair.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or, simply known as GLAAD, has released its list of nominees for its 22nd annual awards. They include the lesbian family drama, “The Kids Are Alright,” the musical “Burlesque,” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” T.V. nominees include, “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Modern Family,” and “Glee.”
The RCMP is holding a Canadian in custody in Edmonton on terrorism related charges. At the request of the FBI, the Mounties arrested a man yesterday on charges of conspiring to kill American soldiers in Iraq. The 38 year old Iraqi-Canadian is accused of supporting a terrorist ring that took part in several suicide bombings, including one that killed 5 U.S. soldiers in 2009.
The wheels of justice are turning against Arizona shooting suspect Jared Loughner. He’s been charged with trying to assassinate Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords in a shooting rampage that killed 6 and wounded 13 others. And now, additional charges are likely. Meanwhile, Giffords recovery continues to amaze everyone around her. Doctors say yesterday she was actually able to stand and look out the window.
Former Haitian dictator, Jean-Claude Duvalier has applied for a new passport. And, a spokesperson says he intends to leave his homeland as soon as he gets it. Last Sunday, Duvalier made a surprise return to Haiti after 24 years living in exile in France. But a Haitian official said Duvalier will face numerous criminal charges if he stays, and so now the former dictator has decided to leave.
City police have released composite sketches of 2 men accused of robbing former Blue Bomber, Dan Hucklak of his Grey Cup ring. Huclack had his 1984 CFL championship ring stolen while walking in the west end in November. Cops are now looking for 2 males, one described as black, 5 foot 10 inches and skinny, the other aboriginal, 6 ft. 4 inches with a heavy build.
Okay…..we all have that favorite pair of jeans right? You know the one’s that not only look good, but they feel good and….smell good? As an experiment, a University of Alberta student wanted to see how long he could safely wear the same pair of blue jeans without washing them. Josh Lay found out its 15 months. Although tests showed high counts of 5 types of bacteria in and on the jeans, readings were not high enough to be a health hazard. And what’s more the same result was found after wearing a pair of jeans for 2 weeks.
Well the Interlake school division is going ahead with a plan to install cameras on its school buses, this despite the province’s reluctance to get on board. Details still need to be hashed out, but the division’s transportation department is looking to add 2 safety cameras to a pair of its buses that travel on high traffic routes. They say it’s an attempt to provide photographic evidence to prosecute drivers who blow through stop signs that buses display during pickups and drop offs.
