The Economic Storm
Wednesday, March 4th, 2009
I had the opportunity to join Bonnie DuPont, Group Vice President, Corporate Resources, Enbridge Inc at the Women of Influence yesterday. She billed her speech as “Transforming People into Performers”. She’s a lovely woman, and has seen tough times just like everyone else. Growing up on a farm in Saskatchewan with her brother and widowed mother, she saw challenges very early in her life. Her life experience has made her who she is today. She’s a strong leader with a very caring heart. She talked about our Economic Storm and how employers can help their employees. How to help them grow so that your company can succeed.
I get the opportunity to ask the first question, and I asked her how to handle the stresses of the Economic Storm as an employee instead of an employer. How do we as individuals weather the storm? Hard work and dedication. You won’t get far if you expect it to fall into your hands. Show your boss you are willing to take on new tasks. You are willing to help your company through the tough times. Show them you are a valuable member. Now that doesn’t mean you’ll actually keep your job, but it can help you find one. Some companies have no choice, but to downsize their employees. But think about your own future. Work hard, but plan for the “what ifs”.
The next Women of Influence Lunch is April 28th at the Westin Hotel. For all the detail go to Women of Influence.ca.

What would you do?

What would you do to keep your job? With the economy the way it is these days, you need to make sure that you’re versatile, willing to take on new tasks and do what it takes to keep your job. But how far would you go… check out this story about a guy who is willing to gain more weight to understand his clients…
PERSONAL TRAINER PACKING ON POUNDS TO UNDERSTAND CLIENTS: A personal trainer is Australia is looking to gain over 100 pounds so that he can better understand his overweight clients. The 32-year-old has already gained 51 pounds on his fit 212-pound frame, and claims that he won’t stop until he weights 340 pounds. He said that cutting down his exercise regime, drinking beer at night and indulging in foods like pasta, cream sauces, chocolate and carbohydrates have helped him expand his waistline. He plans to gain the rest of the weight by March and eventually lose it again by October — to demonstrate to clients how it’s done. (The Sun)
Now we all know that your boss can’t ask you to do that… but would you go that far?? Use job as your bonus code.
