Reflection of 2008

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

There’s a lot of things that happened around the world in 2008. We’ll have a new President of the United States for 2009 (and maybe a new Prime Minister for Canada…)

But what about you? How was your life in 2008? I hope you can look back on it and reflect (use reflect as your bonus code) good memories. Even if you went through hardship, heartbreak, or loss, I hope for you that you can heal in due time. I wish you good health, love and laughter for 2009.

I look back on 2008 as a time of change for my family. I started of with a new job, here at Lite 96 in February. My son celebrated his first birthday in July. And in September we moved. That’s when all the sickness happened. My son started daycare in September, and every other week he came home with a new cold. He loves daycare, so it’s the price you pay I guess.

At the end of September I spent 4 days in the hospital after having my gall bladder removed. That was not fun passing gall stones! But so far, both my son and I have good health now.

2009 looks like it’ll be a challenge for everyone with the economy. My promise to you in 2009 is to try to keep you in good spirits, with music and laughter.

Happy New Year to you and your family for 2009.

My attempt at poetry

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Phew!

Take a deep breath and say phew.
Up next, 2009, and the new.

Christmas is past.
2009 is approaching fast.

The cold snap is over for now.
Now that drivers have the know how.

The roads are a mess.
But at least gas cost less.

Do you take down the tree?
Or keep it up for the neighbors to see?

From shoveling snow, your back is sore
Hang in there, it’s early, I’m sure there’s more.

So now have a glass of wine.
There’s a recession for 09.

Heck, have the whole bottle of vino,
Your pain will be gone before you know!

Happy New Year!

Oi!

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Oi! That’s my word for traffic the past few days. I know you’re feeling it too. It’s exhausting driving to work. I can’t wait for this week to be over.

What gets me is the drivers who INSIST on driving fast. Dude! There’s black ice under that snow – if you hit me I’m gonna be very upset. I feel like I just did a work out when I get to work. My heart rate is up, my arms are sore from the white knuckles on the steering wheel.

Seriously, what’s the best way to drive in this crap? Slow? Keep to the right? I say give yourself at least two car lengths between you and the vehicle you follow. That way if they slam on the breaks you give yourself room to stop too.

Oi! That’s the bonus code for today “oi”. I say it about 10 times a day. It’s better than the “f” bomb! Now that I have a son that’s starting to copy what I say… Oi it is!

Safe travels to you!

The Divine Miss M

Monday, December 15th, 2008

She certainly is! I’m home from a week away in Vegas. On Tuesday my girlfriend Jodie and I went to see Bette Midler! Fabulous! It was such a great show! I did feel a little out of place… I think Jodie and I were the youngest ones there. Why do I say that… because on each side of us there were people with oxygen tanks.

Bette (that’s your bonus code Bette), is 63 years young after all. But she really looks great and put on a true Vegas show. She dropped a few “f” bombs here and there, but I expected that of her. Across the street, at the Flamingo Hotel, Donny and Marie were performing. My favorite line from Bette was… after doing a number and huffing and puffing… “Donny and Marie”, she says exasperated “cross the f$%&@g street and help me out here”. I laughed!

Bette’s show is over for now – but she’ll be back at Cesar’s Palace for New Years Eve.

Vegas itself was great. The only problem I have is the smoking. Vegas is a smoker’s paradise. This makes it tough for the non smokers, as I ended up with a smokers cough by the end of each night. We stayed at the Paris Hotel on the strip. The hotel was GREAT, but I do caution you, if you stay at Paris, don’t move anything from the bar fridge. My friend and I took stuff out to look at it, and as we found out during check out, you can’t do that. They have sensors on the fridge, and if you move something for longer than 45 seconds you’ll be charged! I did have a “wee” argument at the check out desk; I didn’t see a sign or a warning of that. I told them that was ridiculous!!! So, yes that charge was taken off our bill. Phew!! Those things are pricy in that fridge!

Would I do Vegas again… yes! The next show I want to see there is Donny and Marie!

Which is good which is bad??

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I don’t remember ever hearing about recalled toys when we were little. Mind you, we were oblivious to it, as it was our parents job. But it just seems that more than ever there’s recall after recall (use “recall” as your bonus code).

So what do you buy your children for Christmas? How do you know if it’s good or if it’s bad? There’s a great list of the latest recalls on www.babycentre.com. Go to this link to find see the list.

That brings me to my next question. What was your favorite toy at Christmas time? I’d have to say it was a doll my mom got me from Germany. It had a disc that went in her back and she spoke German. I never understood her, but I just loved it. (Back then discs were unheard of as we were still listening to 8 tracks and LP’s.) Email me at christina.rowsell@rci.rogers.com to tell me what your favorite Christmas toy memory is.

Christmas Lights

Monday, December 1st, 2008

We’ve started spinning the Christmas tunes on Lite 96. And now it’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas. The snow is on the way tonight so it’ll start to look like Christmas. But at least we have the Christmas lights.

I’ll be honest; I’m not always into the Christmas lights and decorating. But now that I have a 16 month old, things feel different. I want him to see the magic (use magic as your bonus code) of Christmas. The lights seems to help bring the spirit of Christmas our way too.

Yesterday I had a tear in my eye driving in my new neighborhood McKenzie Lake. You should take a drive on McKenzie Lake Blvd. The trees are all lit up around the lake. It was so magical! And with that, I decided to put my tree up. That’s early for me! My son loves it!

I hope you too feel the spirit and magic of Christmas this holiday season.
