I had the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful luncheon yesterday. The Women of Influence at the Westin Hotel. Arlene Dickinson CEO of Venture Communications Ltd, and judge on CBC’s “Dragon’s Den” was the keynote speaker. I was really touched by her speech. She’s has HUGE success and from what I understood from her talk, it has been by going to the “school of life”. She’s a single mother of 4 children and realized her potential instead of focusing on problems.
I heard her say that – “Realize your potential instead of focusing on problems” – and I had what Oprah would call a “Light bulb moment”. It clicked for me. Do we spend too much time worrying how things will get in our way to succeed rather than spend time on focusing on what we can get done? Arlene made it very clear to me that we are often the only one standing in our own way. Move the problems behind you and focus on what “can be”. How true. It’s all about manifesting your own destiny. If you believe you’ll be stuck in a dead end job forever… then you will. But if you imagine sitting in the executive office with your own assistant then you will be that person!
If you’ve been holding yourself back … give yourself a push and believe that YOU ARE GREAT! You are more than you give yourself credit for. If you can, take a step out of your own shoes and look at the person you are, the person that gives, the person that works, the person that loves and the person that is successful everyday. You will be who you want to be… you just have to believe. If you can’t see that – then find yourself a cheerleader who can make you feel how great you are to everyone else around you!
