Back it up!!

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Yesterday I received the call that my cell phone was ready for pick up after being in for a repair. I was so excited… as I haven’t had my phone for 2 weeks. I was feeling so lost without my contacts.

When I picked it up I looked it over and realized my contacts weren’t in the phone. I said, “Oh, hey, you forgot to put my contacts back on my phone.” The guy looked at me and said, “No, they’re gone.” Pause. Pause some more. After holding my head in my hands, I looked up at the guy…. Paused again, speechless. I gasped. I said, “What do you mean they’re gone?” He said, “when you bring your phone in they upgrade the program and it deletes anything you had on there.” Very calmly I said, “But my life is on there.”

I had a sudden feeling of being disconnected. For a moment I felt lonely. (Use “lonely” as your bonus code.) EVERYONE I know is on there. I don’t memorize numbers, do you? No, of course you don’t. I’m still in a state of shock. I guess it’s lucky that the majority of the numbers are retrievable. They’re also mostly personal and not clients. But, holy crap! Here’s a reminder to EVERYONE… don’t always trust technology. Back up your numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Note: Today’s bonus code is for 100 Platinum Points. You have until Sunday Oct.5th to entre it. Normal bonus codes of 250 Points are on Monday’s and Wednesday’s that Christina is on shift.)

Back to work!

Who needs your gallbladder anyway? So… that’s where I’ve been. I spent last week at the Rockyview. I have a million people to thank for taking care of me. From Heather at South Urgent Care, to Cody and Thijs (Tys) who gave me a ride in their fancy ambulance to the Rockyview. And of course the staff in ER and Unit 83. I had my gallbladder removed. Not as serious a surgery (that’s your bonus code surgery) as it used to be.

My mother had hers removed WAY back when, and she has a belly scar from her ribs to her belly button. Now… it’s just a couple of small cuts. My how the world has evolved. The lesson learned… don’t get sick in this city. After a 24 hour stint in emergency, we REALLY are short staffed on doctors and nurses… AND beds. The care I received was the best they could give me. Once I got a bed it was GREAT. But getting to a bed was the tough part.

I’m feeling 80% now. So, I plan on keeping you company with the best Lite Rock around! Thanks for keeping me company too!

(NOTE: Platinum VIP’s you have until midnight Sunday October 5th to enter your bonus code for 250 points)

I’m such a cry baby!

On Friday I caught the 5pm edition of Oprah. She had on that 16 year old singing sensation! Wow! Can she ever sing. She teamed up with Celine Dion to sing with her at Madison Square Gardens. Here’s a clip!.

Awesome! I can’t wait to see where her life takes her 10 years from now. By the way, use Celine as your Bonus Code for today for 250 Platinum Points. You have until Midnight Sunday Sept.28th to get that word in.

Women of Influence

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

I had the opportunity to hear Kathleen Sendall – Senior Vice-President, North America Natural Gas, Petro-Canada, speak yesterday. I was really moved by her speech. She talked about her childhood and how she overcame a great sickness, to where she is today. Kathleen said she was so nervous about speaking that she was paralyzed the night before. I really had a hard time believing that as she spoke so well. Her confidence was a great cover up for any fear she may have had.

The one thing she said that I keep repeating is… “Life is 10% of what happens to us and 90% of how we react to it.” I said to Kathleen, “that’s what my problem is.”

So true! Kathleen has a very impressive title but I felt yesterday that who she is before that title is what is important. She expressed her “personal courage”, drive and determination to get to where she is. But more importantly, not just where she is, but who she is. I’ve always believed that “Life is about you. It’s your life; you’re the only one who has to live it. So be who you want, live how you want, and be proud of who you are. No one else is going to live your life for you. You are in charge of the choices you make and how you chose to live.”

Thank you Kathleen for being an inspiration. (That’s your Bonus Code- inspiration)
Kathleen, thank you for sharing your life with us at the Women of Influence. Your openness and honesty is truly remarkable. And most of all, thank you for being real. Know that your words will stay with me as I journey on my own personal courage, drive and determination to get to where I’m going.

The next Women of Influence Luncheon is with Arlene Dickinson Chief Executive Officer, Venture Communication Ltd.

2 pounds and counting…

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Having a baby is the most incredible life changing experience you’ll ever have. My son is the sunshine to my day and the most important person in my life. It’s hard to imagine what my life was like before he was born. The only thing I miss from before – was the old me. I gained 50 lbs during my pregnancy. I was okay with that… it was getting it off that was the hard part. I know – they say 9 months on – 9 months off – right. Okay – well 9 months came and went – and now my son is a year – and I still have 18 pounds (that’s your bonus code pounds) to go. So I turned to LA Weight Loss. I’ll be honest with you – I was very hesitant to do this! I’ve NEVER been on a diet before – and I wasn’t sure it would 1.) be for me and 2.) work for me. And so far (to my surprise) it’s working!! And I’m sticking to it. My personal counselor is walking me through every step of this and coaching me on how to make this lifestyle change. The best part is… I didn’t have to give up everything I ate before. I’m learning about moderation, portion sizes, and control! It doesn’t hurt to try it – call for a free consultation with your very own personal counselor – 1-800-764-SLIM. You’ll be glad you did!

Note: Bonus Code for 250 Platinum points: You have until Midnight Sunday Sept 21st to enter it online at Lite 96.

Talent

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I was watching Oprah Tuesday. She had Charice Pempengco on the show. She’s a young girl from the Philippines who is a singing sensation. So that has prompted Oprah to have viewers enter their kids into her Worlds Smartest and Talented Kids at Oprah.com. Charice had me in tears. She is an amazing (bonus code word is amazing) talent. She will make it in the world of Hollywood that’s for sure.

Do you have a talented child? We all like to think our kids are advanced and amazing. My son, who is 14 months old, has a talent. I’m his mom; I like to think he’s talented… His new trick – as he’s just tuning his fine motor skills – is to balance his Cheerio’s on the nipple of his bottle! NOW THAT’S TALENT!!! Not only will his do it until the Cheerio sticks, but he’ll do it for hours. Keeps him busy while I do the dishes!

Drive Thru

Monday, September 8th, 2008

This weekend, while we’re still trying to settle into our new home, my mother-in-law was gracious enough to take our son for a few hours. It’s tough to get moved into a house when you’re chasing a 1 year old around.

We called my mother-in-law on her way back to dropping our son off, to see if she could just quickly go through a drive thru to pick us up some lunch. (As we hadn’t eaten all day). She replied, “I don’t know how to work a drive thru. I’ve never been through one.” I said, “That’s CRAZY (that’s your bonus code by the way – crazy).

I’ve never heard of anyone not been through a drive thru! I thought, that’s unheard of in today’s day and age. So I thought I would do my own poll…

Click on the comments and let me know if you’ve been through a drive thru, of if you know someone who hasn’t. I’m going to guess that most of you have been to a fast food drive thru. If you haven’t… why not? Or email me christina.rowsell@rci.rogers.com.

Note: New Bonus Code feature for 250 Platinum Points. Go to the Platinum VIP Club at Lite 96.ca under the Bonus Code and enter CRAZY before Midnight Sunday Sept.14th for your extra points.

Anxiety!

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Yesterday I asked you to email me your ideas on how to calm my anxiety about my son possibly falling down the stairs. We moved into a new home and have some pretty high stairs, and I’m having panic attacks about him falling down…

Here’s what you said.

Dear Christina,
Maybe you should take a yoga class with your son to ease your tension.
Sincerely,
Carol

Hey Christina,
I also am a paranoid parent, and we have a set of steep stairs in our house. Our solution…. we taught our 8 month old how to climb them, If you can’t beat em’… teach em’…. Worked wonderfully. Teach him to slide down on their bum and hold the railing. Hope this helps.
Lisa

And Doug wrote:
This isn’t the only thing that’ll give you anxiety. Wait until your children are teenagers!

Thanks for all the advice. I think I’ll just invest in some really good gates… and teach my son how to climb down them carefully!

Email me anytime with your thoughts on anything. I’m always willing to listen.

Christina

Back from 2 weeks off

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Phew! I’m exhausted! I’m thrilled to be back at work spinning tunes to relax me!

The first week of my family and I went camping. We borrowed a trailer from one of our friends and took it to the Crowsnest Pass. It was fun… but camping with a 1 year old is a bit of a challenge… especially the part where he only wants to eat rocks and dirt. A short camping trip, but fun to get away.

It was when we came home that the real work started. We moved! And now the challenge begins. I’m a clean freak and I’ve been cleaning away. Not just wiping things down… I’ve pulled out the big guns! I’m using the cleaning toothbrush! I mean business! I’ve also got the “Magic Eraser” waiting in the wings for the tough jobs!

We painted the whole house… and are now waiting for the kitchen to be done. The picture is the before. Once it’s complete I’ll put up a new one. Thank goodness my husband has an eye for fixing things up… I just don’t have that knack.

Please click on comments to give me your decorating ideas! I need your help! Thanks!
Christina
