I think we can all agree Stephen Hawking is a brilliant man.  However, if there was ever a shadow of a doubt, this should take care of it – he has revealed not only how to time travel…but how we can build our own Time Machine!

Surprisingly a DeLorean isn’t on the supplies list.  In fact, according to Hawking you only need two of three things: a wormhole and the Large Hadron Collider or a really, really, really fast rocket.

Yep, as always there’s a catch since it can safely be said none of us have access to those things.  However, it is an interesting (albeit wordy) theory that you can check out here.

The coolest thing about the article though is that Stephen Hawking indulges in the same sort of daydreaming we’re all prone to.  Namely trying to answer the question where would you go if you could time travel? Here’s what Hawking had to say:

“If I had a time machine I’d visit Marilyn Monroe in her prime or drop in on Galileo as he turned his telescope to the heavens. Perhaps I’d even travel to the end of the universe to find out how our whole cosmic story ends.”

Some very noble pursuits.  As for myself, I’d put together a list of the most legendary concerts, grab some appropriate concert wear, and fire up the time machine for the greatest road trip ever taken.

Musician Gary Mitchell misses the old days, when soundtracks used to have that moment that got your blood (and your fist) pumping.  Let’s face it the guy has a point here; most soundtracks nowadays don’t even feature new songs, just a collection of tracks that have already done well on the charts.

Well Mitchell is out to change that with his song “In Brightest Day,” which he wrote for the upcoming Green Lantern movie.  I’ll level with you I was always a Green Lantern fan, and it’d be nice to see him have some sort of kick-ass track.  Maybe this song is it…or maybe it’s a little too lacking in the distortion department.  Either way, you have to hand it to Gary Mitchell for trying to write an old school soundtrack anthem and getting the ball rolling on this.  Because if you’re not a fan of this song, we do have until next year before Green Lantern comes out…maybe you could try your hand at your own soundtrack piece.

You can check out his YouTube page for more on his campaign to get this song included in the movie, or just check out the song below.

…The Opening Band Was Amazing!

April 10th, 2010 by Chris

Just in case you missed it earlier, we got a nice treat of some early Zeppelin recently.  Not just early, but their earliest known live recordings.  A couple clips showed up online, and the audio came from the band’s first tour of America.

In fact it was their fifth US show (in Spokane, Washington) on December 30, 1968 just before their debut was released.  It’s interesting to get a glimpse of the days when Zeppelin was just another band opening up for someone else.

For Your Health!

April 6th, 2010 by Chris

“There’s nothing on.”   It’s a pretty common complaint of anyone, whether they have basic cable, the ultra deluxe TV package with thousands of channels or anything in between.

Well – good news, at least depending on your sense of humour.  The guys behind “Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!” (who are also the guy’s behind “Tom Goes To The Mayor”, but I digress) have announced a new show, which will centre around their character Steve Brule.

If you don’t know Brule, you can get familiar with him and his rules here:

Sour Milk:

Boring Old Ice Cubes:

“Check it Out With Steve Brule” is debuting a little later this summer.  Between that and new Futurama episodes we should be set for entertainment.

Make Way For The Sea Axe

March 31st, 2010 by Chris

You used to know the rich folks by their mega-yachts.  Thing is your garden variety multi-millionaire has a few of those things lying around nowadays, and they keep getting in contests
Well, if you really want to prove your worth in those circles, the new hip thing to have is a support ship to carry all of their other ships, and helicopters and a submarine if you have one kicking around.

Say hello to the Sea Axe:

They even have the size to suit your needs – 37, 51, or 67 meters.  It can even carry the fuel you need for all your other modes of transportation, so you can sail around the world in it (at a top speed of 28 knots)

Maybe it’s a sign of the times, but I’ll admit it – I’m not impressed.  Call me when someone buys a giant hovering mothership to house their fleet of space shuttles they are using to travel back and forth to their moon bases (all of which are gold-plated of course) to tend to their flock of diamond studded unicorns…

Now That’s A Movie Idea…

March 30th, 2010 by Chris

It’s easy to make the joke that Hollywood is out of ideas.  However, Warner Bros has something to say to that.  The studio has picked up the rights to Leonardo Da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever.

Yeah just take a second and read that title again.

It is a thing of beauty.  According to the reports it will have Da Vinci as a member of a secret society.  Sure that sounds kind of familiar, but this isn’t any running around a foreign city solving puzzles.  Nope, in this movie Da Vinci goes head to head with some demons while figuring out secret codes, dealing with lost civilizations, hidden fortresses and fallen angels. Ok, so yeah it is kind of like The Da Vinci Code…and National Treasure…and Raiders of the Lost Ark as the website Film Drunk pointed out.  But, it’s all of those with The Soldiers Of Forever whoever they are (hopefully some kind of elite fighting force made up of other great historical figures outfitted with MacGyver-esque inventions – like in that episode of The Tick)

Batman Always Wins

March 29th, 2010 by Chris

For the third time this year a new record has been set for the sale of as comic book.

Last month a copy of Action Comics #1 (the first appearance of Superman) from 1938 sold for $1 million and then just a few days later Batman proved he had a little more power when the 1939 copy of Detective Comics #27 sold for $75,000 more.

Well, Superman has come back for the win, after another almost flawless copy of Action Comics #1 sold for $1.5 million.

One of the guys behind the sale said, “I can’t imagine another book coming on the market that exists that would top this.  This may be the final say – at least for the next 10 or 20 years – for a record price of a comic book.”

Clearly this man is not aware that Batman Always Wins*

Who ever would have thought a digital camera taped to a ballon could let you see into space?

Well one British guy named Robert Harrison who was able to get some impressive shots of the Earth and only spent $750 to do it.  Not only did he attract the attention of amateur photographers and space nuts, but he said even NASA called him to find out how he’d done it on such a shoestring budget (and yes part of that answer is “duct tape.”)

Check out his set up and some of the photos he took here.

And because it’s been a while since I did any of this “blogging” as the kids call it (I blame my bad productivity on an impressive run of video game release…seriously why would they put out Final Fantasy XIII and God Of War III a week apart) this bonus code is worth a few more points that usual.

Critical Hit!

February 23rd, 2010 by Chris

Forget conventional TV – YouTube has got the market on creativity cornered.  Ok, so this is actually a video built on an online comic…but still pretty damned creative.

The premise of Axe Cop is that the stories are written by a five year old, and drawn by a twenty nine year old.  As to the actual truth behind that, who knows…but if it isn’t true, these people hit pretty close to the kinds of stories I was thinking up as a young lad.  I am sure that might cause some to think I was a little unbalanced, and if so, welcome to this blog…since I assume if you thought I was a “normal” type of person, you have never seen anything here.

Anyway, enough rambling, check out the video – and then grab some points! (and if you want check out more Axe Cop here)
