Critical Hit!
February 23rd, 2010 by Chris
Forget conventional TV - YouTube has got the market on creativity cornered. Ok, so this is actually a video built on an online comic…but still pretty damned creative.
The premise of Axe Cop is that the stories are written by a five year old, and drawn by a twenty nine year old. As to the actual truth behind that, who knows…but if it isn’t true, these people hit pretty close to the kinds of stories I was thinking up as a young lad. I am sure that might cause some to think I was a little unbalanced, and if so, welcome to this blog…since I assume if you thought I was a “normal” type of person, you have never seen anything here.
Anyway, enough rambling, check out the video - and then grab some points! (and if you want check out more Axe Cop here)

Gaming For A Good Cause
February 17th, 2010 by Chris
Say what you will about gamers - they are, for the most part, decent people.
The latest proof of this comes from a bunch of World of Warcraft players, all who shelled out some real world money for an in-game Pandaren Monk pet.
Blizzard, the games maker, promised to give part of that money to charity. Because of their long relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, they decided to send the money to them. So they cut a check for $1,110,000.
Along with the money, the company has also granted eight or nine wishes for kids through the foundation. So, even if you don’t fully understand the draw of video games, hopefully now you’ll agree gaming can do some good in this world.

Betty White, Bud Light And Some Tertiary Problems
February 8th, 2010 by Chris
So football is over. For some it’s a sad day, others couldn’t be happier, and there is the percentage still in bed sleeping off the hangover.
Of course, there is always a post Super Bowl wrap up that catches the attention of even those who have never even watched a second of the action…the commercials.
The nicest thing for us Canadians, since most of us don’t get the American feed, is there are always countless places online where they collect all the ads. So just in case you missed any of them, or haven’t seen any of them, check ‘em out here
Still don’t care about football or the ads? Then feast your eyes on the most dramatic weather guy ever:
Seriously, the phrase “tertiary problem” should show up a lot more in everyday conversation

Get Your Super Bowl Predictions Here….
February 6th, 2010 by Chris
There are a lot of technological ways to try and determine the winner of something like the Super Bowl. We are talking tons of gadgets that will run hi-tech simulations that will break down every possible outcome.
Then there is a more low rent way, which is to play the game in the latest version of Madden NFL, and this way shouldn’t be discounted. Five out of the last six years, the game’s results have predicted the Super Bowl winner correctly. The only time they got it wrong was when the Giants upset the Pats, and who could have seen that one coming anyway?
So it would seem maybe the more low-tech you go, the better the results. That’s why I say if you are thinking of laying bets tomorrow; forget what Madden NFL had to say, go all the way back to the glory days of Tecmo Bowl:
Just think if Madden NFL can get it right 5 times out of six, Tecmo will bat be batting 1000* (although I in no way guarantee or endorse the validity of that statement, but I can set you up with points!)

Like If The Wii And Genesis Had A Baby?
February 2nd, 2010 by Chris
Forget next-gen, hi-def, more pixels per square inch, motion controlled madness. Sega is kicking it old school, as the (incredibly out of touch) kids say nowadays.
According to the internet, Sega is launching a new system…and I did lie a bit in the beginning, because the Sega Zone will have two Wiimote-like controllers that work pretty much the same. 16 of their games will be motion-controlled, and in total they are launching with 20 classic Sega titles, plus 30 more thrown in for good measure.
However, it doesn’t seem like they are looking to take on anyone in the console wars, it is just basically for all those people who dig on the idea of a Sega Genesis with Wii-motes. The best part is that when it comes out this summer, it should cost less than $100.

What Does Bat Taste Like?
January 31st, 2010 by Chris
Time Maine sat down with Ozzy to get his answers to fans questions. While they had over 350, they narrowed that list down to 10. Check out the video, but fair warning, even if you are an Ozzy fan…you might have to re-watch a few parts to fully understand what the man is saying.
Seems the only question not answered is one that a few people have posed over the years: how can he be so hard to understand when talking - but his words come through crystal clear when he’s singing? Well that question and the other important one: does bat taste like chicken?

if a body meet a body…
January 28th, 2010 by Chris
I have already outed myself as a bit of a nerd (alright, if you have ever read or heard anything I’ve ever done…you know I am a huge nerd)
Knowing that, it should be no surprise I’m a big fan of books. Always have been, and always will be. So, I’ll level with you, it’s always a little weird to log onto the internet and find out that an author who you were a fan of has died. Such was the case today as J.D. Salinger passed away at the age of 91.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one to get overtly upset by the passing of someone I never met in my life. At the same time it is a little odd that someone who did have an effect on my life, as a good author (much like a musician) will do, is now gone. What is even more intriguing to me is there wasn’t a lot said about it. I’m not saying the world should grind to halt, but someone immensely popular dies and you see all of these little eulogies on places like Facebook and the like…yet the man who wrote The Catcher In The Rye dies, and I’ve honestly not seen one word about it, outside of the major media.
Listen, I don’t mean to bitch; but as a fan of the written word, I just wanted to take a brief second to mark the death of a guy that had an impact on my life, and as such, one that I respected. Thanks for taking a minute or two to indulge me, and in closing I’ll say, if you have never read any of his work, I would highly suggest you check it out. Other than that, again, thanks for listening to me go on…

From The Files Of Mr. Powe
January 27th, 2010 by Chris
Every workplace has that guy. Ours is Kevin Powe, one of the writers here at the Mighty Q.
I am talking about the guy who knows just about everything there is to know when it comes to the internet. No one knows how he has come to attain such knowledge, and in most cases we are afraid to ask. He is the guy who has seen corners of the World Wide Web (as it used to be called) that we’ve only heard rumours about.
Ok, so maybe it isn’t as shady as all that, but you can count on these people to always bring to your attention the greatest bits of the internet you may have somehow missed. It’s exactly what happened today when he wandered out of his office, stopped by my desk and asked, “Have you seen Death Metal Rooster?”
Well, if your answer, like mine was no…behold one of the greatest videos around, all thanks to the writing powerhouse known as Kevin Powe:

A Nice Life Lesson
January 25th, 2010 by Chris
He may not be famous, but a seven year old kid from the UK named Charlie Simpson proved anyone can make a difference.
Dig what this kid did. After asking his parents how he could help the people in Haiti; his parents suggested he raise money by riding his bike. Charlie was hoping to make a couple bucks for UNICEF.
He even went the hi-tech route and started a profile on justgiving.com, and that is where his story took off. So far he has made almost $226,000 in online donations.
Even more mind blowing is that some people have been leaving comments on a few of the web pages reporting on this story, trying to tear down this kid’s effort. Basically they all make the same complaint: there is no guarantee that all of that money will ever make to those who need it. It’s one way to look at it, another might be to realize that maybe more of us should adopt the kind of attitude Charlie Simpson has. That’s to say we should just set out to try and do some good, without over thinking all the rest of it. In the end, no matter what percentage of this money makes it to Haiti, there is no question this kid proved one person can make a pretty big difference. Besides, in a world filled with some pretty bleak news, it’s a nice change to read something like this.
