Go Canada Go!
Friday, February 26th, 2010
Some people aren’t happy with the way the Canadian women’s hockey team celebrated their gold medal win last night. Several players came back on the ice after their 2-0 win over the U.S drinking cans of beer and bottles of champagne with others smoking cigars.
The IOC Executive director had this to say after hearing about the celebrations:
“If that’s the case, that is not good. It is not what we want to see,” he said. “I don’t think it’s a good promotion of sport values. If they celebrate in the changing room, that’s one thing, but not in public.”
He said the IOC will talk to the International Ice Hockey Federation and the Canadian Olympic Committee to collect more information for the purposes of its investigation.
What do you think? Do you think it was wrong for the team to celebrate on ice? I think it’s just the Canadian way!
Winnipeg Teachers in Hot Water
Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Two Winnipeg high school teachers are in a heap of trouble after performing a lap dance in front of students during a pep rally. The incident took place last week during a spirit week dance competition at Churchill High School. The teachers—a man and a woman—were filmed on a cell phone grinding against each other while the woman sits in a char in the middle of the gym floor.
Check out the video here:
The Winnipeg School Division is investigating and both teachers have been sent home without pay, but have not been officially suspended.
Med Hat Tigers Shootout
Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Over the weekend Ian and I headed down to the Medicine Hat Arena for the Tigers game. We were taking part in the “celebrity shootout” where each of us were playing for a season ticket holder trying to win them a Tigers jersey.
Here’s how it all went down:
It was so much fun! I’ll admit….I was pretty nervous before we hit the ice, but I did a lot better than I thought I would! I got 5 out of 10 and Ian shot 6 out of 10. Congrats to Ian!
Who Should Play Kurt Cobain?
Friday, February 19th, 2010
It’s been announced that Universal is working on a screenplay for their untitled Kurt Cobain project. Part of the material on the life, music and 1994 suicide of the Nirvana singer-songwriter will come from the 2001 biography “Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain.” Courtney Love will be an executive producer on the film.
So that got me thinking….who would be a good actor to play Cobain?
What about Ryan Gosling?? He’s musically inclined, plus he’s a decent actor.
Entertainment Weekly thinks Ben Foster would be a good fit
Some of the Rock 105.3 listeners on facebook suggested Owen Wilson & Johnny Depp
What do you think?? Who would be the right person to play Kurt Cobain?

The film’s soundtrack will be released on March 30.
Monster Trucks on Valentine’s Day
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
I’ve made it pretty clear that I dislike Valentine’s Day…so one of my best friends and I decided to do something a little different this year. We went to the Motorsports Spectacular! What a great way to un-celebrate Valentine’s Day with monster trucks and motorbikes!
The event featured a Monster Truck Challenge with five of the world’s toughest Monster Trucks. There was a Motocross Arena-cross. Quad Wars, a Radical Jump Contest and a Demolition Derby! My favourite part was the Free Style Motocross Radical Jump Showcase. There were some HUGE jumps! I’m talking back-flips on a bike. Sooo sweet!
Here’s a pic of me and my friend Brandy at the event. We even wore trucker hats to partake in the action.
We ended our Valentine’s “Date” with a heart-shaped pizza at Boston Pizza. It was definitely one of the most memorable Valentine’s Days I’ve ever had. I think monster trucks might have to become a tradition
Happy Long Weekend!
Friday, February 12th, 2010
It’s Friday and I’m minutes away from my long weekend so this post is going to be really short! As most of you know by now I hate Valentine’s Day. To un-celebrate Valentine’s Day I’m going to a Monster Truck show on Sunday! I’ll tell you all about it on Tuesday morning.
The one and ONLY Valentine’s thing I’ll be doing this weekend is going to check out the movie “Valentine’s Day” which hits theatres today.
Here’s the trailer:
Have a wonderful Family Day!
Survivor Premieres Tonight!
Thursday, February 11th, 2010
I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a premiere of Survivor since it first debuted 10 years ago. Can you believe it’s the 20th season of Survivor already? How insane is that? One of the reasons I’m so excited for this season is that it’s an all star season! They’re calling it “Heroes vs Villains.”
Check out the cast here:
Will you check out this season of Survivor? Or have you been sick of the so called “pop culture phenomenon” for years now? I’ll admit I haven’t watched every season of Survivor but I’m pretty sure this season will be one to remember. It has some of the best players to ever play the game. Even if you haven’t watched Survivor since season 3, I’d still recommend watching this one!
Canadians Love Valentine’s Day
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
A new national survey has found that Canadians love Valentine’s Day. The Mastercard Canada survey found that nearly 9 in 10 adults who participate in Valentine’s Day give gifts to loved ones because they want to, not because they feel they have to. According to the 1,013-person survey, seventy-two per cent give something to their significant other, 50 per cent to their parents, 47 per cent to friends, 42 per cent to siblings and 10 per cent to colleagues. The majority (67 per cent) will spend less than $50 total, with cards, dinner out, candy or chocolate and flowers representing the most popular gifts. Less common tokens of affection named by respondents included tools, appliances, adult toys and, in one case, a rubber chicken.
Poster Crushes
Monday, February 8th, 2010
Today on Poncho in the Morning we were talking crushes, more specifically poster crushes! We figured since Valentine’s Day was this weekend it would be a good chance to reminisce.
Poncho’s poster crush was Heather Thomas. I can see why he would like her! Poncho even admitted to putting scratch n sniff stickers on the back of the poster so it smelled good! EWWWWWW
I had a lot of celebrity crushes as a teen…just ask my mom. My entire room was covered wall-to-wall with posters from Teen Beat and Tiger Beat. I really liked Jonathon Taylor Thomas from Home Improvement and Devon Sawa (who first appeared in Casper the movie and went on to star in Final Destination).
We had tons of calls and emails with your favourite crushes! Here are a few of them:
Scott Baio & Shaun Cassidy
Then there’s model Caprice:
There ya go! Did it bring you back to your teen years? Who were your favourite poster crushes???
