There are so many factors that go into preparing for a fight, but I think one of the most overlooked aspects is the ‘art’ of cutting weight. One welterweight who has been notorious for missing his 170lb limit is Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. The Georgia native, and AKA team member admitted to have reached a mammoth 231lbs just three months ago while recovering from knee surgery. The 27 year-old will have to step on the scale once again later on today at the weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night 24, where he’ll face Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy.
As for the outspoken Brit, Hardy is impartial either way telling MMAjunkie.com, “If he comes in overweight, that shows me a lack of discipline. It also means he’s got more than one chin to hit, as well, which is going to work out in my favour.”
Earlier this year I got a chance to catch up with “The Outlaw” when he was in Toronto, where we discussed everything from his nickname, weight-cutting and some of his favourite guilty pleasures when he’s not dieting for a fight.
Stay tuned for mine and Geoff’s picks for UFC Fight Night 24.
