Sorry for the late blog. Just finished an all day First Aid course. Thanks to Ted from Rescue 7 for showing us the ways of a life saver. You don’t appreciate it until you need it.

Don’t forgot to file your taxes, today’s the deadline.

Ontario has introduce legislation to make it illegal to take or make calls while driving (along with using other hand-held devices). While there’s the threat of police pulling you over, how about affecting your insurance….

It truly doesn’t pay to answer the phone!

Texting while driving?

In a nutshell, don’t even touch the phone while driving. If you do, hope that I’m around because I have First Aid training now :)

Happy Hump-Day, getting ready to play softball on Saturday for the first time this season. Nothing like a team sport to show you just how out of shape you really are. Joint’s will be a-poppin’!

Finally saw the trailer for the new Pixar movie ‘Up’. I laughed out loud, can’t wait to see this!!!

Is there room for another Taylor in this biz?

He may not be one of the best known Country Stars, but Vern Gosdin was loved by the hardcore Country fans……

Why can’t we bind this guy’s ankles, throw a t-shirt and diaper on him and leave him in the woods? Really folks, sometimes a jail term doesn’t cut it.

Finally saw this video, and realized that Trace Adkins is one of the funniest guys in Country Music today…..

Only Trace can make marrying a woman for money hilarious :)

And lastly, recognize this…

The historic Seagram barrel pyramid will be torn down to accommodate the soon-to-be built Balsillie School of International Affairs. They should keep it there because nothing says ‘This is a place of higher learning’, better than a bunch of empty liquor containers!

Cheers!

Everybody Wants To Be Country

Monday, April 27th, 2009

It’s an ongoing trend. Folks want to be invovled in Country Music. Whether it be a fan, artist, or promoter, this genre of music is becoming like a ‘Warm Safe Place’ (stolen from Aaron Pritchett). After this past year with Jessica Simpson (who has since been booted from her Country record label), Darius Rucker, Bon Jovi leading the way, more acts are making the jump. Like who? I’m glad you asked……

Happy Earth Day!

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

So, it’s Earth Day. Let’s be thankful we live in a clean country like Canada, but are we the cleanest? According to the Environmental Performance Index, Switzerland rules followed by Sweden and Norway. Hate to break this to you but we’re not even the cleanest country on this side of the planet. That honor goes to Costa Rica…..COSTA RICA!?!?! Yes sir, they rank #1 in the Americas, and #5 world wide. Even Columbia at #9 world wide is considered cleaning than us. We ranked 12th. Don’t feel bad, the States are 39th.

Band Needs Name (Recap)

Band Needs Name

So I get this e-mail from a friend of mine who’s putting together a band with some fellow studio musicians. Not a ‘garage band’ but one that’s very serious. They’ve played with some big names and are ready to take the country world by storm. Only problem is, they don’t have a name! I told him that I was going to put this on my blog and let you guys decide a name for this band, and I’m sure he thought I was joking!!!

If your name is used, I’ll see to it that you NEVER have to pay for a concert ticket to see them play.

So, what’s a good name for a Country Band?

‘Blue Denim’
‘Appaloosa’
‘old green tractor
Spurs
Dudes
Ride
Runaway
Leather Cowboys
Men in Pants
Girls We Are Here

If this doesn’t scream, ‘DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER’, I don’t kow what does!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY

First of all, a moment of silence for the Toronto Maple Leafs………..

This is a difficult time for me. As a Leaf fan, to cheer for anyone would be like cheating on your spouse! But I am a hockey fan, and I can’t watch the playoffs without rooting for someone.

So, before I throw my support behind one of the 16 teams, let me gaze into my crystal ball and tell you what I see………

 Eastern Conference

Boston (1) vs Montreal (8)

As much as it pains me to say it, if I HAD to pick an upset in the first round, this would be it. But I don’t have to so the Bruins in 6.

Washington (2) vs New York R (7)

Alex the Great will lead the Caps, but Henrik Lundqvist will steal one or two games for the Rangers. Caps in 6

New Jersey (3) vs Carolina (6)

Two words, Martin Brodeur. Devils in 5

Pittsburgh (4) vs Philadelphia (5)

My heart is picking Pittsburgh because Sidney Crosby and I are both from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, and how can you not pick a team that has Sid the Kid and the years top scorer in Evgeni Malkin? Pittsburgh in 7.

Western Conference

San Jose (1) vs Anahiem (8)

If a shark and a duck were to get in a fight, who would win? Sharks in 5.

Detroit (2) vs Columbus (7)

Congrats to the Blue Jackets on making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, sorry it had to be against the Red Wings, fall gently on that sword. Wings in 5

Vancouver (3) vs St Louis (6)

Remember when the 1990-91 Minnesota North Stars made it the Finals after a 27-39-14 regular season record? Well, the Blues seem to have some of that upset magic surrounding them. Blues in 7

Chicago (4) vs Calgary (5)

It’s good to see the Hawks doing well after years of disappointment, but I just can’t see them getting past the Flames. Flames in 6.

So who am I cheering for? As a Leaf fan, I respect the Original Six and would love to see a Boston/Chicago final. I’m not for an all Canadian final because that would mean Montreal made it to the dance. I do root for the underdog though, so I’m officially throwing my support behind……..

“My personal life has taken its ups and downs,” said a chipper LeAnn Rimes on ‘The Today Show’ Monday morning.

The country singer visited New York’s NBC studios Monday to promote her new book, ‘What I Cannot Change.’ She explained to ‘Today’ host Matt Lauer that the song of the same title was written during a “dark time” in her life, several years ago. But a more recent dark time is where the interview drifted.

After mentioning an US Weekly magazine cover story that accuses Rimes of having an affair with actor Eddie Cibrian, Lauer read a statement from the actor, vehemently denying the story. He then asked Rimes to set the record straight.

“It’s hard to continue to go back and forth in the press, because it’s really hurtful to myself, hurtful to my loved ones,” she responded. “I refuse to discuss tabloid rumors. I’ve grown up in the press my whole life. I think people are fascinated with my personal life. And I totally get it.”

Rimes, who kept a smile on her face throughout the interview, expressed gratitude for those who’ve stuck by her during the tough times. She’s also grateful for her fame, despite the sometimes invasive press that comes with it.

“I love what I do. I’m passionate about what I do. I get to write books like this and write songs like this and affect people’s lives,” she said. “I think through the song ‘What I Cannot Change,’ having touched so many people, that’s what I believe I’m here to do. And it’s such a blessing.”

So this weekend, we’re highlighting some of the good that your favourite country superstars do, and as we research the good, this young lady’s name keeps popping up. Taylor Swift has done ALOT in her young career and below is the story of her latest act…….

With the plethora of awards shows and special events she’s attended, Taylor Swift has amassed quite a collection of beautiful gowns. There’s one dress in particular that the country superstar is ready to part with, and she’s giving fans the chance to hang it in their own closet.

Taylor has donated the cream and gold Jessica McClintock gown she wore to her high school prom to Hearst Magazines’ DonateMyDress.org. DonateMyDress coordinates local dress drives across the U.S., to help girls who can’t afford the perfect dress for their special occasion.

“I chose to give away this prom dress because I wore it once and loved it,” Taylor says. “To keep it around, hanging there all by itself and lonely in my closet, never to be worn again seemed a little pointless. I want another girl somewhere to feel good in it and have a great prom night because of this dress.”

During the first DonateMyDress celebrity auction, Taylor’s dress fetched $1,200. Dresses were also donated by two of Swift’s BFFs, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.
