Hines Dances to #1; I’m Rooting for Scotty; Oprah Signs Off; Kim Kardashian is Not Talented.
May 25th, 2011 by Andy Cole
ENTERTAINMENT EXPRESS for MAY 25
The mirrorball trophy was passed on to another last night. Hines Ward and Kirstie Alley were the final two. Though I would have liked to see her win, Kirstie came in second place to Hines. And Sara Palin was there for some reason…?
There’s another elimination coming tonight, on American Idol. Scotty is hoping America checks “yes” and makes him the official winner. Lauren Alaina did a great job, despite having strained her vocal chords so badly before the show, that last week’s loser Haley Reinhart warmed up to take her place, in case she couldn’t do it.
Oprah Winfreyended her show today, after 25 years. Though the most beloved talk show in history won’t be on TV any longer, we can expect to see Oprah appearing from time to time on her televsion network, OWN.
And happy engagement to Kim Kardashian! Her boyfriend of six months, New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries, popped the question late last week. It was immediately followed by another question…”By the way, why are you famous?”
A whole bunch of endings! (Get the Kleenex ready)
May 24th, 2011 by Andy Cole
All good things must come to an end, and by “things” I mean “seasons of American Idol.” This has been one of the best, and the final two are better than anything we got last season, no offense to Crystal Bowersox. Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina face off tonight, and tomorrow, the next American Idol is crowned.
Before we get there, however, Dancing With The Stars finishes off tonight. Fan-favourite Kirstie Alley is still in the competition, and while I sincerely hope she wins, Bruno had some of his trademark weird, high praise for Chelsea Kane.
Also coming to a close is the Oprah Winfrey show. After 25 years, Oprah signs off tomorrow afternoon, and the identity of her final guest has been revealed. It’s not a newsmaker, or an author, or even John Travolta. The final guest is…the viewer. Oprah will talk about what her fans have meant to her through the last 25 years. I’m still betting Travolta pops up in the audience or something.
Country Idol Showdown; Governator Won’t Be Back; New @ Cinema 6!
May 20th, 2011 by Andy Cole
It was no huge surprise when last night’s American Idol came to a close. Scotty was deemed safe, leaving Lauren and Haley in the bottom two. Haley was sent home. Next week, Scotty and Lauren battle it out, after which Lauren wins. Come on, we know that’s how it’s going to happen!
Arnold Schwazenegger is feeling the kind of heat usually reserved for Tiger Woods. Rather than losing endorsement deals over his philandering, Arnold’s lost a deal for an animated series about him that had been in production called The Governator.
And only one new movie at Timmins Cinema 6 this weekend, but it’s big enough to satisfy just about everyone! Johnny Depp and, eh, some other actors, star in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It opens today.
The Final 3; James Franco’s a Wiz? and Oprah vs Gaga.
May 19th, 2011 by Andy Cole
ENTERTAINMENT EXPRESS for MAY 19
Tough to tell who’s on the bubble for this week’s episode of American Idol. Quote of the night goes to Jennifer Lopez, who asked Scotty to shave his head. Tonight, we’ll say goodbye to either Scotty, Lauren, or probably Haley.
Michelle Williams, best known as the blonde girl from Dawson’s Creek, has signed on to play Glinda, the good witch in the upcoming Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz the Great and Powerful. It also stars James Franco, Rachel Weisz, and Mila Kunis.
In this corner, Lady Gaga…in this corner, Oprah Winfrey! Who would say has more power? According to Forbes magazine, it’s Gaga. Even though Oprah out-earns her by a good $200 million, Forbes says she falls short on the social networking side of things. But if it all comes down to Twitter, how far away from a Justin Bieber-ocracy can we be? (Or are we already there?)
Kirstie’s Safe; Haley Could Have Stayed Home; Oprah Let Tom Cruise Back on her Set?, and MuchMusic Pretends They Like Airing Music Videos
May 18th, 2011 by Andy Cole
ENTERTAINMENT EXPRESS for MAY 18
First things first – Kirstie Alleywas in the crosshairs on Dancing With The Stars last night, and my heart was in my throat. Thankfully, here’s how it went down – Ralph Macchio got the boot, and Kirstie lives to dance another week. Still impressed by her!
On the subject of elimination – who’s NOT picking Haley to get voted off American Idol this week? We’ll see the performances tonight, as well as watch the Haley, Scotty and Lauren visit their hometowns. Tomorrow night, one of them will be chosen to pay another, more permanent visit to their hometown.
We all knew Oprah could throw a party in her studio – but how about a stadium-sized sendoff for her show? 13,000 fans came to the taping of her second-to-last blowout episode, held at the United Center in Chicago. Guests included Tom Hanks, Jerry Seinfeld, Aretha Franklin, Tom Cruise, and Michael Jordan, who all sang her praises. The special airs next Monday and Tuesday, and Oprah’s final show comes on Wednesday the 25th.
And the Much Music Video Awardnominees have been named! Among them, Neverest, which features Timmins’ own Brendan Colameco on drums!

I Spell ‘Schwarzenegger’ So You Don’t Have To; Wax On, Ralph; Today’s DVD Releases Brought to You by the Letters T,H, and E
May 17th, 2011 by Andy Cole
ENTERTAINMENT EXPRESS for MAY 17
The Schwarzenegger Saga continues! Yesterday I told you he’s splitting from his wife Maria Schriver. Today we find out he fathered a child with one of their housekeepers, and kept it a secret for ten years. Think this had anything to do with the marriage trouble?
Dancing With the Stars sends another team home tonight. My money’s on Ralph Macchio.
Elsewhere on TV, a lot of holes opening up. CBS has taken their red pen to the lineup, cancelling The Defenders, Mad Love, and S#*! My Dad Says, sending star William Shatner back where so many failed sitcoms have gone before.
You can fill the void on your screen tonight with some new DVDs – there’s the action flick The Mechanic, starring professional kicker Jason Statham; get creeped out with the horror movie The Rite, or get scared in a different kind of way with thriller The Roommate.

REPOST: Make a Wish, Climb a Mountain!
May 17th, 2011 by Andy Cole
When it comes to raising money for a good cause, the phrase “Ain’t no mountain high enough” seems to ring specially true for people in Timmins.
Sylvie Petroski, Mark Charette, Melanie Perrault and Carole and Peter Jurenovskisare raising money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. They’ll be climbing Mt. Killimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Before they head off to Tanzania, the group is hoping to raise $40,000 for Northern Ontario Make-a-Wish recipients.
Bridesmaids catch Thor’s Bouquet of Hammers, NBC Thins the Ranks, and Ashton Kutcher’s #Winnings
May 16th, 2011 by Andy Cole
ENTERTAINMENT EXPRESS for MAY 16
Another big weekend for the man with the big hammer. Thor came in at the top of the box office again with 34 and a half million, but some of his thunder was stolen like so many wedding centerpieces by the comedy Bridesmaids, which pulled in about 24 and a half. Rounding out the top four were Fast Five and The Priest. You can check them out at Timmins Cinema 6 tonight, along with the Timmins Film Society’s presentation of Blue Valentine.
If you’re staying in, Dancing With The Stars returns tonight!
Last week, Fox culled the herd, cancelling a number of shows. Now it’s NBC’s turn – say goodbye to The Event, Law & Order: Los Angeles, and Outsourced.
And Ashton Kutcher is stealing all of Charlie Sheen’s winning! It’s reported he’ll receive between $625,000 and $900,000 an episode for starring on Two And A Half Men, as Charlie’s replacement.
The James Train is Off The Rails! Ashton Kutcher Back to TV, And New Movie Friday
May 13th, 2011 by Andy Cole
ENTERTAINMENT EXPRESS for MAY 13
It was the biggest shock to hit American Idol since people realized how short Seacrest is! Scotty and James ended up in the bottom two. And then…the unthinkable – James Durbin is out of the running! The final 3 are Scotty, Lauren and Haley. Next week, they each take a victory lap back to their hometowns.
Speaking of winning, Ashton Kutcher has been confirmed as the replacement for Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. Ashton’sbest known for his role as Kelso on That 70′s Show, and for marrying Demi Moore.
A pair of new movies at Timmins Cinema 6. From the producers of beloved guy-comedies Knocked Up and Superbad comes one for the ladies — Bridesmaids, starring Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph. For the action fans, the horror-thriller Priest also hits the big screen today.
