Blame your husband
Was HRM School Board Superintendent Carole Olsen telling the truth when she said that her husband leaked the video of Ken Fells restraining a 14-year-old student who had aggressively pushed him?
Olsen maintains her husband went into her laptop computer and sent it out – and she didn’t know about it. But, she said her husband was just “supporting her.” You see, Olsen wanted Principal Fells fired. The husband thought that by releasing the video to the public that it would hurt Fells. Well, the opposite happened. Many, after seeing the kid circle back and run past the Principal only to push him when he was stopped, supported Ken Fell’s no-nonsense approach.
But whether you agree or disagree with what the principal did is not the question here. The issue is the conduct of the school board superintendent Olsen and how responsible is an official for the actions of their spouse… Olsen and her husband have been married for almost 40 years. You mean to tell me he went into her computer without her knowledge?
Get this. It was Olsen who ordered her own technical staff to determine the source of the leaked video once still pictures were published.
I don’t believe it.
It was convenient, and dishonorable to blame a 40-year marriage on a leaked video – an action designed to bring down the object of your own scorn.
Apparently, the excuse that “her husband did it without her knowledge” was good enough for the school board who didn’t fire Olsen.
The lesson of the school exercise is this: You can undermine your opponents by breaking the rules and be defamatory with the intent to injure a reputation as long as you’re married and your husband can take the fall.
It’s a good lesson for kids.
If only Fells could take Carole Olson to his office… hmmmm.
